Time flies when you're having fun right?

It's almost the first again, and you know what that means... another Champion Concept Contest!

This time around there'll be prizes again!. Granted they aren't much but if you win you'll get a home-made, ArmaMalum approved, Gold Medal animation personalized to your concept! I'm still a novice, but the nice thing about these animations is that they're reproducible, customizable, and don't care about international shipping! WOOOOT!

I've actually already given out some to the previous winners, here they are as an example of what you can get:

(I'm working on improving the quality, like fixing the motion blur, in various ways all the time. If I find a way to universally improve these I'll be sure to come back and update the old ones.)

#Have Contest, Need Judges

Simply put guys and gals, this contest relies on volunteer judges. I'll always need more! Send me an e-mail at "[email protected]" if you're interested in helping me out. Looking back I realized that there is no reason to stop taking judges until the end of the entry period (and the start of the judging period), so you have until Noon EST on 10/8 to send me an e-mail to volunteer. I will provide additional information as well as answer any questions I can through that e-mail.

Quick judge requirements:

  • Cannot be entered into a contest you're judging (duh)
  • Cannot reveal you are a judge until the results are announced. No exceptions.
  • Must score all concepts within the two week judging period. (Max 60 entries)

Failure to meet these requirements will result in your scores being dropped. No drama or fuss, just dropped. If something comes up and you can't get to them all, it's perfectly fine I understand. But I cannot use scores for only half of the entries.

Has the theme of the contest alredy been posted?I know after the first one you choose the add something to it,to make it more challenging.

Last month I was one of the winners. Perhaps I'll enter as a judge, but I'm not sure if I meet the standard requirement as such as English isn't my native language and I don't really know if I am able to check on all Concepts... Usually I don't have any interest in chewing through a Concept that isn't interesting (I mean siriusly, we already have already a music Champion, why again?) for example.

As a judge of lasts month I can ensure you that most of the concepts can be awful in various terms. But my native language isn't English either, so no problem on that.

There is still the "Originality" Score Category which will vary between different judges and there you can still subtract some points from.

If you don't finish, I'll have to drop your scores, but I won't make a fuss about it or anything.

Not much to do about good/bad concepts though, you have trough through the mud to find the gems most of the time. Naturally If you don't want to you certainly don't have to, but I will say that there'll be nothing held against you if you try it and decide to back out.

(also, I plan on making some Silver Medal animations for the runner ups of the contests, but these things take a freaking long time to render on my laptop, so it'll be a little while, sorry)

Question. Does the first week of October begin this Week? Or, does it begin the next week after this week?

My guess would be for the day after tomorrow 1st of October.

Zanryu is correct, entry is starting on the first, ending on the 8th. Easier to keep track of imho.

Little pet peeve that I see, and you probably will fix, but the august coin when facing august has red color on the top left which appears to be broken.

Yeah, damn fireflies on the render. I know how to fix it (higher sample size, clamping, caustics, etc etc) but most of the fixes increase the already long render time, so I just wanted to get it out sooner rather than later. My Gif conversion software is the thing that's giving the most problems honestly... but I just started using it so it will get better! XD

Hello Sir ArmaMalum, I'm really interesting in this contest! I was wondering where can I find more information on this? i.e. where to submit my work/theme/etc. Thank you for doing this! I think this is a great idea and opportunity for us artists! :D

Unless he changes things up for some reason, he will release another post where you will be able to submit your champion. In this post is the guidelines and pretty much all the instructions on what to do for first timers. Basically you post your champion concept on the forums normally, it would be nice to even put somewhere in the concept that it is for the contest, and then comment on the Contest post with your champions name.

Just a note though, it is best to wait for the actual contest entry post to post your concept on the forums, you can not enter concepts that have been posted before and i guess its really up to Sir ArmaMalum what will qualify.

Also i highly recommend looking up the past contests for a clearer picture of what goes down, also there are a ton of great concepts worth checking out :)

Stephenizgod is correct, there will be a post I put up on the first calling for entries. It's a simple matter of posting as you normally would and then linking said concept to the entry post. That's all you need to do!

As a note however, I will not be taking old concepts, only concepts posted within this next month of October. The primary objectives of this contest is to 1) encourage conceptors to get out there and 2) generate new and awesome community content. So if you have a concept in mind hold off on posting it until the first!

Got it! thanks again for doing all these :D I looked though the past submissions just now and realized that it's not really what I expected. I'm more on the art side. I thought this would be an art contest. Still awesome stuff though! I look forward to seeing all the entries! :D

Hey, um... In the forums... There's a thing called the MCCC... The people who do that were going to transfer it over to here when the forums eventually get shut down, so I think there might be an issue with there being two contests. If I can convince the others, would you mind merging with the already-existing MCCC? I wouldn't want a nearly two-year contest to be washed away so quickly.

I just now got an e-mail from Moby White and I assure you I wouldn't dream of trying to shut down the vBulletin MCCC. I would be happy to merge in.

However, the transition hasn't happened yet so preferably we can keep going as we have been for another month's time? That would give us time to discuss how to address the eventual switch. There are new challenges here on the Boards (like international entrants, formatting limitations, etc.) as well as the opportunity for me to prod your all's greater general experience. And also the hopefully understandable concern of my own to not be simply pushed out and ignored.

I appreciate the heads up and I would love to work with you all.

Alright, good to see that you're understanding! I feel that your idea to let the two coexist for this month would work well, so I think that this can be done while the two parties can talk about the potential merger. If it doesn't work out, we can always have two contests. It worked out with the MACFA, so it might work here, too.
