[Champion Concept] Kaimana, the Alluvion Birthright
Name: Kaimana
Intended Role: Fighter/Tank
Appearance: Kaimana appears as having light blue flesh covered in rich scales, with large fin-like growths sprouting from the side of his head, his forearms, and calves. He wears a faded orange armor that is in the style of scale mail, with a dark brown leather protecting his body beneath the armor. His armor allows him to remain mobile, yet protected, so spaces around the joints maximize dexterity yet still slows him down and leaves him vulnerable.
Background: Kaimana was the youngest scion of an Ionian noble house, and was born with a bizarre mutation; his flesh resembled scales, and fin-like growths sprouted from his forearms, calves, and spine. Along with his four older brothers, he grew up enjoying the finest benefits of privileged life in the Ionia, but he alone was locked away in the home in order to be protected from the harsh views of the outside world. He received the finest education, and received training in swordplay, meditation, and tutelage in minor magicks.
However, due to his solitude and young age, he understood that he might never receive claims to ancestral heirship. That belonged to his older siblings, whom he loathed for their insesent jeers and mocking of their brother’s mongrel appearance. Kaimana planned that once he came of age, he would secretly leave, striving to earn idle riches. Perhaps he might even find an opportune marriage in order to secure his family’s comfort, leading to a life of boring yet secure leisure.
As he entered adulthood, tragedy would soon find its way along Kaimana’s path. His oldest brother was found hanging in an ally. An investigation of such found that it was most likely a suicide. Heirship would fall to the next brother, only he, too, was killed. The second-in-line sibling, a teacher at the local monastery, began choking on a bowl of grains and vegetables, dying within seconds. The third brother, a cunning swordsman, was quickly slain within opening seconds by an amateur duelist, which shocked many throughout the land. Kaimana’s final sibling, his older brother and practicing summoner, was found slashed in two, apparently killed by his own creations.
Amid the intense turmoil of the violent deaths, Kaimana’s father, the lone surviving member of the family besides their grief-stricken mother, began wasting away in his quarters, a victim of old-age; the mother began taking care of family affairs until Kaimana was ready to take on such duties. It wasn’t long before the murmurs would start.
At first, Kaimana would hear the faintest of whispers, which were dismissed as echoes throughout the empty house, or as sleep-deprived hallucinations. With each new death however, they became louder, echoing the phrase, “Killed”. To the best of his ability, Kaimana would ignore these ghastly mutterings as lunacy of grief. He began looking into this manner and the claims of the spectral whispers, visiting his sibling’s personal arcane library, where he was slain.
Kaimana entered hoping for answers; instead, he left with more questions. The summoning circle which was still cast upon the floor was altered, something about it didn’t seem right. No one talked about the oily substance that remained on the spoon of which his father ate. The more he learned, the more frustrated he became, and the louder the voices appeared. Servants of the noble house and his mother did their best to conceal the late-night screams of the son, casting them aside as wild ravings of overwhelming grief.
Kaimana’s first introduction into the outside world was unsuccessful, to say the least. Onlookers observed the fish-like humanoid as he sit, covered in wrappings and fine clothing to shroud his true form. The occasion was his father’s funeral, of which his only attending family was his mother. During the memorial, the voices became an uproar, and no amount of clenching or squeezing of his fin-like ears could hush them. He stood up, knocking his seat back and began screaming an intense scream of bloodshed. To the intense terror of the audience, Kaimana railed against the chorus of accusation, howling about how his family was slain due to his mother’s deceit. No one could hear what he had to say, they were only focused on his demeanor. Those in attendance understood that morning must have pushed him past the brink of insanity. His own mother had him committed to an asylum, which appeared more like a prison to him.
For two years, the young creature suffered in the asylum, baffling scientists and mages alike due to his appearance and mental instability. The well-intentioned wardens sought to ease his agony but to no avail. However, on the anniversary of his father’s death, a new prisoner entered, calling himself a “virtuoso”. With a sarcasm and cynical wording, he taught Kaimana to no longer ignore the chorus, but to welcome it as a symphony. Using intense meditation, the young man began to hear the truth. The voices were gradually identified to be his brothers and father -- spirits of their once-great lives, forever dwelling on the circumstances of their demise.
As time went on, Kaimana grew accustomed to them and would spend hours at a time speaking to them, appearing to onlookers as a madman speaking to nothing. With the aid of his magic-practicing brother, Kaimana was able to learn tricks to collect the keys to his cell to escape. Once out of his cell, he rushed to the neighboring cell with his friend, only to find it empty. To hurried to ponder the missing artist, Kaimana fled, relying on the cunning advice of his duelist brother to deftly leave the nation.
The world proved to be much darker than he had left it. His mother used her son’s madness to disown him from inheritance and claims to title, name, and land. What’s more, she married a Noxian noble, solidifying her holdings and gaining considerable influence in both Ionia and Noxus. Seeing little chance for justice on his own, and now questioning if this virtuoso who counseled him to realization was even real, Kaimana knew he would need real, living allies in order to reclaim his birthright. Boarding a ship, he made his way towards the mainland, eager to join the League of Legends. He planned a new persona, one of a sea-born warrior, reflecting his mutated condition. His restless ancestors followed close behind.
