Is he essentially getting a new skin, and that new skin is now his base skin, and his previous base skin is now a "classic" skin in the vein or Trundle and Karma?
The announcement has a bit too much jargon and lore exposition for me to get the finer details. Also, does playing a Coop game count as matchmade or does it has to be pvp?

Turns out, it was actually for 
, and the skin was staring us in the face the whole time. The "new" Skin is going to be his classic skin/splash and his current default will be the "Captain Gangplank" skin if I read it correctly.
That's exactly it. All you have to do is play him during this event and you'll get the old base skin VU.
If I understand it correctly, if you play a pvp game as Gangplank before the deadline, this Captain Gangplank will take the place of his default. So he is essentially getting a second visual update and another new splash.
