[CCOS] March entries being taken now!

Hello everyone and welcome once again to this month's Comunity Concept Open Stage. In this contest I ask for any and all champion concepts posted in this month of March and run it by a temporarily anonymous panel of your peers! If you're interested at all, read on! I've detailed everything from a-z.

Prizes

  • Entry into a Hall of fame post that will remain updated as long as the CCOS runs
  • Top 5 concepts will be highlighted and praised in the results announcement
  • Top concept will get a custom .gif file of a fancy shiny medal to 'pin' on their concept
  • ALL entries will have a score associated with their concept in the scoring categories as well as a good chance at feedback and critiques
  • ALL entries will be referenced in the CCOS Archive to be viewed later

Entry requirements

  • ONE entry per player
  • Concept Entry must be posted this month. As in this month of March, 2015.
  • No WIP concepts or re-posts please. This contest is here to encourage new content. You may be disqualified.
  • Concept Entry must be YOURS. If the linked concept’s author and your name are different your entry will be disqualified.
  • Entries will be taken from now until I post a “contest closed” thread on the 16th at noon EST.
  • All entries must have a LORE and a KIT section to be considered a concept. More is needed to remain competitive, but to be entered you need at least that.
  • The first 60 entries will be taken. Any posts above that limit will not be entered.
  • Entrants can be disqualified based on rude behavior towards other entrants/judges (negative feedback is fine!), disregard of the Universal Forum Rules (porn is NOT a legitimate reference image) or other major problems.

#How to Enter

  1. Post your concept normally within the Skin & Champion Concepts Board, if it's not already posted.

  2. Reply to THIS POST with a link to Step 1

  3. Wait for me to reply with "Entry Confirmed!". If it takes more than a day for me to reply I may have missed you, don't hesitate to remind me!

  4. Watch the "Current Entrants" List above and double check you're up there, if you are you're in!

Remember: There is max of SIXTY slots.

#Timeline

  • March 9th: March CCOS begins, Entries taken.
  • March 16th: Entries closed. Judge application closed. Judging begins.
  • March 30th: Judging ends, scores locked in.
  • April 2nd: Results announced. (I was tempted to do it on the 1st but that would be mean)
  • April 13th: April CCOS begins.

#Scoring

Entries will be scored based on five categories with the following weighting.

(Max) Category

(25) Lore

(25) Kit

(20) Originality

(20) Effort

(10) Bonus Addition --------------------------------------- (100) Total per judge

#Bonus Addition: They're after me lucky charms!

No matter how well-trained or talented your champion is no one can get far without at least a little luck, where does your champion get it from?

Give your champion a lucky charm! It can be anything from a lucky lug-nut from their first mech prototype or maybe a shard from their first training weapon or even a family heirloom. Be sure to tell us why your champion thinks it's lucky though! Backstory, backstory, backstory!

This can silly, it can be clever, it can be serious. All up to you!!

Example (Graves):

"Luck's a joke, something only kids and idiots hold on to. It's an easy way to get yourself killed." Graves said, reaching into his coat pocket. "If luck manages to find you it's not because you're liked. It's not because you're destined for great things. All that's up to you. Luck just wants a good laugh at you before you go." Graves flips the misshapen coin, a musketball embedded into the gold. "I owe this coin my life, and I owe its previous owner a bullet to the skull. How's that for a damn joke?"

#Judges!

Currently I have 2-3 judges signed up, I would love to have more! If I can get above 5 I won't have to jump in to score myself an that means discussion and shout-out posts!

Never fear the Sir is here! I’ve made a Introduction to Champion Concepts post just for you! New conceptors are not only welcome but encouraged to participate! I will be happy to take questions about making a champion concept as well. Getting new conceptors into the scene with confidence behind their concept is a huge motive behind this event! :D

I have a WIP concept...

Feel free to post and work on your concept as much as you want. It's not technically entered until you provide the link to the entries thread. Just make sure you're not the 61st entry and the original post is within the month!

I don't have a concept and I don't have time to judge. But I want to help!

That. Is. Awesome. The single best way for you to help me, the other judges and the entrants is to give feedback! Negative, positive, just make sure it's constructive and the author can use it effectively if they so choose. In fact if you want some tips on giving feedback to Champion Concepts check out Jaykoboy's awesome How-to guide here.

Can I change my concept after entry?

As encouraging feedback and concept participation is a major motive behind this contest, I encourage iterating on a concept, HOWEVER you have to be able to argue it's still the same champion, no major changes or it will have to count as a new entry with your previous entry being disregarded. Remember: your entry doesn't start until you provide the link here, If you want feedback before entering I advise to simply post normally and provide the link when you feel you're ready. Just be sure to enter before next Monday and before we hit 60 entries!

Can I change my concept after judging starts?

Yes, but there's a catch. I do not micromanage the judges, I let them peruse the entries at their own pace in their own order, so I can not guarantee your changes will be seen by every judge. If you do make changes that late in the game you have to be prepared for a score that does not accurately reflect your end-all concept.

-sigh- normally I don't care about anonymous downvotes, but seeing as this is a thing that needs visibility to work I would appreciate knowing why someone is going out of their way to downvote any CCOS post I make recently. I'm going to assume it's someone who has a beef with me personally but doesn't have the courage to actually say something, but if it's someone who actually doesn't like the CCOS as a whole I would very much appreciate the reasoning so I can hopefully work towards addressing those concerns.

I have seen people said (voted) my champion Beltrog has had some OP problems. I have had no comments and gone on what I felt was OP. Could I get some comments on him for the people who voted.

I would like to enter and ask for feedback on my champion entry, Forsenthio, the Mad Multi-Millionaire (it's not in the Lore, but if anyone's confused as to why he's called the "Mad Multi-Millionaire", it's the nickname everyone in the League gave him for having made his armor, weapons, and ammo out of gold. The reason I used Millionaire instead of billionaire was because then it wouldn't be an alliteration.) As I said on this champ's OP, I'm very bad with numbers (Cooldown, stats, attack power increases, movespeed increases, etc.), so I definitely need feedback on that to make sure it's not too overpowered. Please remember that this guy drains his own money for his abilities, so expensive late-game items may be more difficult for him to get than they will be for other champions.

People can be excessively critical about champion concepts, especially if they think they've seen it somewhere before. If you legitimately never stole the idea and it's a coincidence if it looks like something else, just say so and ignore further comments like that. I'd also suggest removing numbers if you put any on your champ's abilities or if you gave it any stats. If you don't hand them the numbers it's harder for people to judge whether or not it looks too unbalanced/OP. Of course, if numbers are required then go ahead and leave them, but put a disclaimer in the original post saying that you're accepting suggestions for changes to the numbers so you can get feedback and try to better-balance it. Also, just in general, ignore any downvotes that people don't explain in the comments, because some of them may just be trolling you.

alright, I'm sorry to hear that but it's your call.

A contest like this is meant for fun and competition. When you put 14 hours into a champion, it's like spending 6 months preparing for the village soapbox race and you probably shouldn't participate at all with that mindset.

There's a reason Atamun got downvoted, and that reason was not "downvote trolls" but the fact that it was a bloated, pretentious MCCC style concept no one could possibly give a shit about except perhaps a few contest judges, aka Oscar bait.

Just because a movie is Oscar bait, that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve the Oscar.

I read your concept and, although I liked it overall, I think it had a few critical flaws

  1. Just way too many effects. I've actually been thinking about it, and IMO if you'd just given him a normal ulti, you would have greatly reduced the number of spells he has access too. Now I know that giving an ultimate to a kit with so many potential spells can be problematic, but it could have just been something like ''reset the cooldown of the last element used'' or something a bit boring like Ryze's ulti meaning it gives him more stats for a short while. Or you could just go for a big, satisfactory ulti if you can find a way to balance it. After all, with only 3 basic elements, you'd quickly run out of options if using QW puts Q1 and W2 on cooldown.
  2. There didn't seem to be any real direction with the concept. It felt like the kit was just ''How many different effects can I put in one kit?'' I mean he had damage, CC and a heal/shield (can't remember which) on top of all these weird, different spell effects.
  3. There were just far too many rules to the kit. The way damage would change depending on the secondary element, the way the elements would be locked out felt pretty unintuitive, etc.

I think your concept was really cool, although unlike you I do feel that the comparison between your kit and Invoker's was not entirely ridiculous, even though the effects of the spells are completely different, it's the same idea of manipulating elements to create spells. I think you should just take another look at it and make it simpler. Being complicated is not always something you want :P For example, I'd suggest making it so the secondary element only affects the shape (range, width, missile speed, etc.) of the spell, not anything else. Otherwise it gets REALLY confusing.

Also, I wouldn't say that putting in 14 hours into a champion concept is exaggerated. It just depends on what kind of person you are. Last month, I submitted a concept that had a LOT of time put in it (mostly lore, special interactions, VO lines) and I fully expected to lose, mostly because I was very unsatisfied with the kit. I'm still tinkering with the kit itself, even though no one will ever see what it becomes XD If you love making champion concepts, just go ahead and do it. If you just wanna make one to win a small, fun competition, then yeah don't put **too **much effort into it XD

Anyway, I hope you post your concept again next month, I'd love to see it back with a few improvements ^_^

Never too late! It's your concept after all!

The only thing is that each judge will approach their 'inbox' at their own pace, so some may have already given you scores and some may not have. So I cannot guarantee your art will be seen by a judge, but I can tell you the sooner you do it the better chance you have that they do!

Pretty much. Thank you! I saw. I wanted to see where I ranked, and I'm surprised I did as well and also very happy at my score. Though I think a judge misinterpreted a small detail (Doesn't even matter really XD). Since I think I misspoke and meant Pentagon and wrote pentagram XD Lol. Anyways, thank you!

Is the one for this month up yet? I'm always working on some ideas and love to see how I rank and just gives me purpose to do better and create amazing and unique creations.
