Hey there, boards!

Going to share an idea I came up with on the Concepts & Creations Discord (shameless promotion) while talking to KelikZenair about his URF-style gamemode where all champions die in a single hit. After some discussion of why that might be problematic and a discovery that the game mode might work better if everyone were Ezreal, I took off to do some thinking on the subject and came back with a game mode I think might be very entertaining.

Please note that numbers are all approximates, as this is an idea dump and not a finely tuned final product (since, obviously, I can't test it). Your thoughts are appreciated.

#PADDLESTAR [Rotating Game Mode] DESCRIPTION: Paddlestar is a short, fast-paced game mode where two teams of 3-5 players each (pending testing) all play Zoe. Players dance around an astral battlefield collecting stars and stunning each other to gain an edge. Whoever has the bigger collection at the end emerges as victorious. Games should be speedy, action-packed, and ideally over in 5-8 minutes, maximum.

The rules are tweaked so that players are rewarded for sneaky ability use, accuracy, dexterity and speed of dodging, and map control, while also enabling cool plays like area denial of objectives with sleep effects and big flashy outplays. "Death" is intentionally redesigned to keep the childlike atmosphere of a bunch of Zoe's hanging around, and the collection mini-games play in nicely to Zoe's portal-based kit.

##BASIC RULES

  • All players are Zoe.
  • Players receive Flash and Barrier as Summoner Spells
  • No abilities or attacks deal damage, save for Zoe's Q, which instantly kills a player or instantly consumes a Barrier. W, E, and R otherwise function as normal.
  • Scoring kills earns points. When killed, a player is instead "stunned" and regenerates health over 5 seconds. Afterwards they are able to move freely, and are invulnerable for 2.5 seconds. This mechanic keeps the game fast and prevents camping, and also gives a bit of a soft comeback mechanic to ensure players get SOME time to play or fight back even against a much better opponent.
  • Stars and gold stars spawn at random locations, announced slightly ahead of time via visual indicators. Collecting stars earns points.

##MODIFIERS TO NORMAL GAMEPLAY

  • All players gain Boots of Swiftness as their only item, and possibly extra movement speed.
  • Players do not have runes, and do not have gold.
  • Players begin at level 18.
  • Players have 60% cooldown reduction.
  • Players do not use mana.
  • Summoner Spells have greatly reduced cooldowns.
  • Ult animation speed is increased by 50%.
  • Sleep duration is decreased by 50%.

##MAP DESCRIPTION The map is a somewhat small arena composed of several distinct floating astral islands. Portals linking these islands allow players to jump back and forth across the thin gaps separating the islands. Main colors should be dull purples and blues on a dark background, but stars and flavor elements should stand out with bright, brilliant colors much like Zoe herself.

##SCORING

  • Collecting a star earns 1 point.
  • Collecting a gold star earns 5 points.
  • Earning a kill earns 3 points.
  • First team to score X points (100?) wins.

It sounds pretty great! But I think the wall traveling mechanic of Zoe's E could potentially be problematic when it reaches the actual gameplay phase of designing it.

Wait...couldn't one Zoe use barrier to give her whole team barrier back?

One personal concern is that players aren't rewarded for using Zoe's kit. If her Q auto-oneshots then there is no reason to paddle it around, you would just throw it straight at them, and even if they dodge with ult they are going to jump back to a spot near enough to where you initially sent the star that you can redirect it to auto-kill them anyways.

Reworking it so that paddlestar doesn't 100-0 and instead functions closer to live (Perhaps making it do a % of health based on how far it has traveled, with the possibility of 100% if you throw it far enough.) would make the mode far more rewarding imo.

Super cute and fun idea! This would probably also work without the insta-death Q... Just overclock her percentages (like an URF mode) and keep her general mechanics the same..... I could also see this 'collect the items' mode working very easily with Bard....since he already plays that game so well! ;)
