Lore Throughout Ionian history, there have been many legends of mysterious creatures and beings that pass through. Of course, some of these legends disappear over time and are forgotten. However, this was not the case for the legend of Yūrei, the phantom swordsman, as his story lives on as one of the many prominent Ionian legends.
The story begins with a master swordsman who perfected a fighting style that involves using all of man's blind-spots to his advantage. It was his own unique technique and throughout his life, he tried to find ways of improving this style to the best of his ability, but as he grew older, he realized that legacy would just die out if he did not find a suitable apprentice. So, he scoured the land for a suitable apprentice, but alas, he could not. He died before he could pass on his legacy. Legend has it, he still searches for suitable warrior who he could pass on his legacy to, if they ever beat him of course.
Due to this tale, many Ionian swordsmen travel the lands in order to one day face Yūrei and many did. However, the ones that do give up their way of the sword as Yūrei breaks their very spirit to improve their style. To this day, whenever a swordsman is asked why he gave up his blade, they say, "Yūrei."
Abilities
Spectral Blademaster (Passive) - Whenever Yūrei disappears from sight, his next auto-attack strikes twice, allows him to dash a distance of one teemo, and gives him bonus movement speed. -The 1st auto-attack deals the same damage as a normal one while the 2nd auto-attack deals 50% of the damage. -Both auto-attacks apply on-hit effects.
Vanishing Blade (Q) - Yūrei's next-autoattack deals %health physical damage and allows him to dash to the target. After striking the target, Yūrei is stealthed after 1 second for 1-1.75s based on level. If Yūrei is struck with cc, he cannot enter stealth. If Yūrei was already stealthed before casting this ability, -Yūrei will always land behind the target after using this ability. -The cooldown of this ability is reduced by 0.5s everytime Yūrei autoattacks.
Fading Veil (W) - After casting this ability, Yūrei is completely invulnerable to damage and hard-cc for the next 0.5s. After casting this ability, Yūrei is also stealthed for the next 1s.
Cleaving Crescent (E) - Yūrei slices anything within an arc, dealing %missing health physical damage. -The ability can be casted while moving.
Fleeting Traveler (R) Passive: Yūrei uses a stock system on this ability; he stores a stack of evanescence periodically and upon taking down an enemy champion, up to a maximum of 3 stored at once. Active: Yūrei dashes a short dance becoming stealthed for 2 seconds. Auto-attacking reveals Yūrei. While stealthed and up to 3s after being revealed, he has bonus movement speed while moving towards enemy units and Yūrei's auto-attacks do not hinder his movemnt allowing him to auto while moving. During those 3s, Yūrei's autos deal %bonus health true damage. -If Yūrei is struck with hard-cc during stealth, he is revealed and the true damage portion of the ability does not activate.
Playstyle
Yūrei is a skirmisher who excels in causing terror in small fights. His abilities allow him to always keep moving which allows him to excel incredibly well in small skirmishes as they allow him to kite around those who could not keep up with him. His stealth mechanics and Fading Veil allows him to gain the extra survivability of most skirmishers while giving him a clear weakness of CC. This makes him a strong counter to juggernauts because of his mobility and their lack of cc. However, Yūrei is weak to burst mages as their cc prevents his stealth and their burst allows them to slay the Phantom Swordsman before he casts his W to save himself.
