[Champion Concept] Soy'Grea, Curator of the Brood
Evening everyone, BowietheNifty here to bring you another champion concept. So originally this concept was comprised a long while ago. During this time it was devised to be apart of my tank block of concepts. Though something didn't feel right with the original concept, well specifically the kit. So I took some time off to work on other concepts like I do, tell one day I came back to this one. By that time, I had some creativity flowing again and I got to work. I largely reworked the kit, and gave her some lore to go with it. While it may not be the best writing, it gives a little bit on insight on the creature. Anyways if you like the concept, feel free to leave me some feedback. Don't care if its good or bad, I still appreciate it. Lets get on to Soy'Grea, Curator of the Brood
Soy'Grea, Curator of the Brood
Updates Lore Added - 1/18/17 Added Gold value's for Brood and Hatcheries - 1/18/17 Interactions Added - 1/26/17
Appearance (Note that I don't own the picture being used here. This is mainly for reference to give you a general idea of her appearance.) Soy'Grea is a creature of the void. Like most of them, she is a hideous creature who has a dark purple hue to her skin. She has a large hunched back figure, as she supports a whole nest of eggs on her back side. One thing to mention about this creature is that she has no eyes. All her sight comes from her other senses, like the mini tendrils all over her body. She has short back legs, but her front legs are rather large in comparison. The front legs do have the ability to stretch out like puddy, so they could become much longer they expected. There are some natural armor plates that are spread across various parts of her body, most of them are located near her head.
Lore Soy'Grea is one of the many creatures that hail from the Void. She wasn't exactly discovered, tell a group of explorers managed to find shelter a cave in the Freljord. The cave itself had become this creatures nesting grounds. Hundreds of eggs were laid across the floor, walls, and the ceiling. It was only one of the explorers that managed to escape the place alive and make it to one of the Freljord cities. He spoke about the creature in that tended to the eggs, including the ones she kept on her back. As well he spoke of the horrors that hatched from the eggs. While this story caused groups of hunters to gather in order to hunt down the monster, most of them never returned. Tell one day a group came back claiming that they found the creature's lair. They said that it was littered with shells and bones of old hunters before them. Someone had been there before, but the body of the told creature was no where to be found. The tale of the creature was told on for a bit, but eventually passed into a myth. Many many decades passed sense the first stories of Soy'Grea were told. The stories themselves got turned and twisted each in their own way. Some say that the creature had returned to the Void with the constant attacks on it nest's, most people tend to believe it. Though when more distinct creatures from the Void started to surface across Runeterra, speculation started spur about their origins. Some say that these creatures were advanced offspring of Soy'Grea. She had sent them here to claim the world, in order to exact revenge for her destroyed nest from long ago. No one truly knows for sure. Still speculation and rumors started to spread. The old creature from the Freljord would be soon considered the mother of all void creatures. Without seeing it the creature in such a long time, there was no proof that she even still lived. This would eventually change. In a small town on the outter rim of Demacia, there is trouble brewing. Hunters who thrived off the wildlife would come how without any prey. It would seem that the game of the woods were growing rather low. At first, the hunters would point the blame at each other, saying that they were over killing and taking too much. This arguing would continue for awhile, tell one day a young hunter would discover the truth. The animal of the woods were getting picked off, not by anything human. They were being slaughtered by large strange purple insects and being brought elsewhere. When the young hunter brought news of it to the others, most didn't believe the boy. There were a few that were skeptic but decided to venture forth to investigate the matter. They would see with their own eyes the merciless insects that were taking any game they came across. The group of hunters would follow them, finding a cave. Going inside, it was full of purple eggs glowing with a out worldly energy. It was shortly after that they spotted the mother. A large disgusting creature, who lumbered around holstering more eggs upon its back. They tried to leave but only managed to make the anger the creature. With a cry the eggs started to hatch, and most of the hunters would fall victim to the swarms. It was only the young hunter who managed to escape. Seeing what the death of his fellow hunter's he went straight to the village elder to bring the news. The elder recognized the creature described from the old tales passed down. "If she is here, I don't believe there is anything we could do. Young hunter, I have a task for you. Go to the capital, you must warn them about the threat that is approaching. Tell them Soy'Grea has returned."
Roles Primary: Tank
Soy'Grea is a tank who excels at one major goal, pushing. She can either function as a heavy push top laner, or be a push support jungler. Once she has her nests set up, she will have an army of Broods at her disposal which will make her a menace to any tower she sends them at.
Stats Soy'Grea's Stats HP: 570 (+90) HP5: 8 (+0.85) Mana: 340 (+ 45) MP5: 5 (+ 0.75) AD: 62 (+ 3.8) AS: 0.60 (+ 1.3%) AR: 27 (+ 3.8) MR: 32.1 (+ 1.25) MS: 310 Range: 300 (500 command)
One thing to note about the stats. With her current stats she has two things going for her. First off she is considered melee, but she has the largest melee attack range of all champions. Now on the other hand, she also has the slowest movement speed of all champions. Well this is except for Kled when he is dismounted, but still naturally she has the lowest movement speed.
Abilities Innate - Nest for the Void Type - Generated Minion Spawner Cool Down - 180/140/100/60 seconds Range - 700 Scaling - Levels 6/11/16 for cool down
Description - Passive: Soy'Grea will spit out a parasite that will create a Void hatchery in a target brush or jungle camp once it has been cleared. The hatchery will generate an egg every 18 seconds. If Soy'Grea is near the hatchery and out of combat she will tend to the eggs making them grow twice as fast. Once an egg is fully grown at a hatchery she can channel near it for 2 seconds to hatch all the eggs at that hatchery into Void Brood. Depending on if the hatchery is placed within a brush or camp determines the amount of eggs that can be produced. Brush 2 max, Normal Camps 3 max, Red/Blue Camps 4 max. Hatchery's can be killed with 3 basic attacks and once found they remain visible on the enemies map tell destroyed. Hatchery's last tell destroyed.
Void Broods are small winged void creatures that follow Soy'Grea around attacking with her. If a target its outside her attack range(Up to 500), upon issuing an attack a Void Brood will follow that target and start attacking them. Only two Void Born can be attacking the same target in this fashion. 5 Void Brood can be following her at one time. Once they are Dismissed to go down a lane, they will start to lose 6% of their max health per second after 5/6/7/8 seconds of leaving Soy'Grea's side.
> In-Depth Soy'Grea has one hell of a passive. To put things into simple terms, she creates nests to grow eggs and hatch them into her Void Brood. These Void Brood are the main function of her entire kit. Without these winged devils, she can't do much on her own. Though with them at her side, she can have pretty good damage output. The Brood can attack structures and objectives. Now the Void Brood do have stats of their own, which you can see at the end of this section. To give you a heads up, they Brood do scale with Soy'Grea's stats. Specifically they scale with all bonus HP and her AD. When I say "Bonus HP" that means that all the health coming from items, runes, and masteries. This doesn't include her base health or the health she gains through levels. As well they don't regenerate health what so ever. Just wanting to make those clear. The hatcheries do not effect camps from respawning, but the camp must be cleared to plant a nest within them. Void Brood give 7 gold when killed, and Hatcheries give 15 gold. Though here are the little guys stats. Void Brood Stats HP: 109 + (23 x level)(523)(+ 5/8/12/17% Bonus HP) Damage: 10-119 (+ 8% AD) Physical Damage Attack Speed: 0.831 Range: 100 Armor: 30 + (0.5 x level) Magic Resist: 40 + (0.67 x level) Movement: 451
Q - Implant Type - Single Target Skill Shot Cool Down - 14/14/13/13/12 seconds Range - 850 Mana Cost - 65
Description - Active: Soy'Grea spits a parasite that deals 40/70/100/140/180 (+ 20% AD)(+ 40% AP) magic damage to the first enemy struck and implanting them with a void egg. After 4 seconds, the enemy will take 30/45/60/80/100 (+ 2.5% of target's max health)(+ 10% of target's missing health) true damage. Creates a Void Brood from the enemies corpse if the enemy dies while implanted or if the true damage would kill them. This true damage is doubled against minions and monsters.
> In-Depth This is going to be one of Soy'Grea's main damage abilities. Plus this serves as a way for her to gain Void Brood without the use of her nests. Having it deal two forms of damage makes it a little harder to build against, though like I said, this is "her" main damage ability. All of the other abilities in her kit revolve around her Brood, so she needs something that gives her some power. While it can make nice poke, its main focus is to be used on minions. The true damage is doubled, so it is a nice tool to use to last hit those minions out of range. I should note that if she has the max amount of Void Broods following her at the time one of these little guys hatch from a body, well they will instantly be dismissed down the nearest lane.
W - Call the Brood/Dismiss Type - Area of Effect Slow, Fear, Minion Summon Cool Down - 20 seconds Range - 1000/1800/2700/3700/4800 radius Mana Cost - 70 Call the Brood Active: Soy'Grea cries out, causing hatcheries within range to hatch all their eggs. The Void Brood will then fly into the sky before descending on their mother after 1 second. She will be able to cast Dismiss within the next 12 seconds. If she already has the maximum amount of Void Brood following her, they will instantly be dismissed to the nearest lane upon reaching her. Enemy champions within 1000 units of the cry's range will be slowed by 30% for 4 seconds. Enemy champions within 400 units of her will be forced to flee for 2 seconds. Dismiss Active: Soy'Grea will Dismiss all current Void Brood following her. Dismissed Void Brood will proceed to the nearest lane and start traveling down it acting like a minion.
> In-Depth Soy'Grea's W can be quite powerful if used correctly. If you noticed I does have a huge radius. Now this radius only specifically effects the hatcheries. So all the hatcheries within the range will hatch their eggs and the void brood will appear on Soy'Grea's location shortly after. Though it does slow enemy champions within a large radius as well, but this doesn't scale with rank. Enemies who happen to be extremely close to Soy'Grea will be forced to flee from her, so it is useful for great self peel. For Dismiss though, it is pretty self explanatory. All the Void Brood following her, will simply stop and head to the nearest lane. From then on, they are like a normal melee minion. Once they are dismissed, there is no getting them back. Void Brood do automatically get dismissed if they are generated and Soy'Grea has the max amount following her.
E - For the Mother Type - Ground Targeted Area Command Cool Down - 8 seconds Range - 900 Cast/400 Brood radius Mana Cost - 20 Active: Soy'Grea will command 1/1/2/2/3 of the Void Brood following her to fly out and attack enemies within a targeted area. If there are enemies into the area when they arrive, the Void Brood will sacrifice itself to deal 30/41/53/66/80 (+25% of Brood's current health) physical damage to a target, prioritizing champions. If no enemies are present then they will remain there tell one comes into the area or 6 seconds pass, then they will fly up into the sky and return to Soy'Grea after 1 second.
> In-Depth Hope you like Kamikaze minions, cause this is exactly what this is. Soy'Grea will have her brood die to deal a good chunk of damage to a target. Now is damage does scale with the Void Brood's current health. Meaning, the healthier the brood, the more damage it will deal. It also means that the more health it has in total, the more damage they will do. As long as she has Broods at her disposal, this becomes a powerful harassment and zoning tool. The Brood do have to get to the targeted area before they dive bomb on some target, and that can take some time giving opponents time to react. This is of course they aren't already on top of you. Void Broods that are already commanded to follow a target to attack, will not be chosen to sacrifice itself. As well this ability doesn't go on cool down tell the broods sacrifice themselves or return to Soy'Grea.
R - Better the Brood Type - Passive Minion Generator, Active Super Minion Summon Cool Down - Cool Down: 120/100/80 Seconds Range - Self Cast/700 Warrior Aggro Radius Mana Cost - 40 per egg Passive: Void Eggs will start to grow from Soy'Grea's back one every 20/18/16 seconds. Can hold a max of 3 eggs at a time. While at max eggs a fourth egg will attempt to form like normal. Upon growing this fourth egg, one of the other eggs will hatch creating a Void Brood. The Void Brood will instantly be dismissed if she has the maximum amount following her. Active: Soy'Grea will mutate the eggs on her back causing them to hatch into Void Warriors. These Void Warriors the same stats as a Void Brood expect they have double the armor, double the magic resist, double the attack range, deal an additional 20/30/40 (+12% AD)(+2% HP) physical damage on attacks, have 50% increased movement speed while targeting enemy champions, but have 25% reduced attack speed. Void Warriors will attack any enemy near them, prioritizing enemy champions and enemies that recently damaged Soy'Grea. After 10/14/18 seconds, Void Warriors will start to lose 12% of their max health per second.
> In-Depth Soy'Grea's Ultimate ability provides quite a bit. Not only does this allow her to generate Void Brood on herself, but she can use the active in a number of ways. One thing to know about the Void Warriors, is that they are beefed up versions of the Brood. Unlike the Brood however, they don't follow Soy'Grea or her attack commands. Instead they attack what ever is within their aggro range. If there is nothing within their aggro range, well they will simply sit there tell something does. They are persistent, and will keep following who ever comes under their target list. Now they will change targets only if Soy'Grea is attacked by an enemy champion while she is within their aggro range. Though this can only happen once per life. They can attack structures and objectives just like the Brood can, though most likely they will target enemy champions over them. These Warriors don't last forever, as they do start losing health after a certain amount of time. Having them gang up on you along side the Brood is a death wish.
Interactions
To the majority of the champions in the roster, they can not understand Soy'Grea. To them, the creature mainly communicates through hissing, clicking, and wailing. However she is actually an intelligent creature able to have coherent thoughts. To the player and void related champions, they are able to understand her tongue. Her voice is dark and brooding that seems to echo like ringing thoughts.
Jokes
"After having so many children, it becomes difficult to remember their names." "Okay one, two,three,.. where are the other thousand?" "I know what you're thinking, how can I maintain my figure after all my children?" (To ally Void Creatures) "Did you remember to eat your human's today?" (To ally Void Creatures) "Yes come and let mother give you a kiss." (To ally Malzahar) "You pop those things out almost as fast as I do?!" (To ally Kassadin) "The void is insider you, at least it isn't an egg." (To Urgot and Skarner) "You look just adorable. Are you sure you're not one of mine?" (They are able to understand her tongue for some reason.)
Taunts
"You will become my new nest!" "My children shall feed on your innards!" "You aren't strong enough to feed my children." (To enemy Cho'Gath/Kog'Maw/Kha'Zix) "Eat or be eaten child!" (To enemy Cho'Gath/Kog'Maw/Kha'Zix) "Far to skinny to be fed." (To enemy Vel'Koz) "Mother knows more then you ever will." (To enemy Rek'Sai) "They call you a queen, I see you as a disgrace." (To enemy Malzahar) "You are no match for my Brood." (To enemy Kassadin) "The void will consume you, but not before my Brood."
Dance
Soy'Grea's dance is actually pretty simple. She puts her strechy arms into the air and waves them like she just don't care. Or you can simply watch the video below. It will give you the general idea. How she dances
Laugh
Soy'Grea will point her arm laugh at what ever is in that direction. The Brood will join in with little skitters but not know why they are laughing.
For right now this is what I have for Soy'Grea. I wanted to work on a Void themed champion for awhile and I am glad I got around to it. I would really like some criticism on this concept so far. Sometime in the future or next couple of days I will be adding more onto the concept. Be prepared for interactions to show up. This of course when I am not working on updating old concepts. Speaking of past concepts, if you wish to see them I have a list that you can find below. Would really appreciate some feedback on them as well. As of now, BowietheNifty is going to be getting some sleep. Hope you enjoyed reading.
