Mimic (Champion Concept with Lore)
Lore:
Inferior. The word sank mercilessly into the black mass of Mimic’s mind. The indestructible elasticity of his predecessor remained a mystery to the scientists of Zaun. Mimic was their attempt to replicate the creation of the Zaun Anamorphous Combatant using a material sample reclaimed from the wreckage of his first… incident. The incident in which “Zac” defended his beloved parents from the clutches of their would-be captors.
Mimic’s color darkened as he mused.
With their ‘inferior’ replication confined in an indestructible clear cube designed to confine Zac, the scientists continued the analysis of their creation.
“Elasticity: Inferior.”
“I don’t understand where the difference even begins. The cellular structure of the original sample was identical to the replication. Did it change on its own?” The scientist scribbled notes as he spoke, oblivious to the growing darkness within the cube.
“Energy Dispersion: Inferior.” Droned his counterpart – ticking another mark in his notes.
“Could it be in relation to its upbringing? Is that possible? The original was taken from the lab and raised as a child. It represents the only deviation.”
“Compressibility: Inferior.” A tick of the notepad. The scientist sighed. He removed his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose tiredly. “I suppose it’s possible. Preliminary tests showed an exact replication. If emotional or ‘familial’ surroundings can have an impact, we may be back at square one.”
“What about reconditioning? If it responds favorably to… well, affection… perhaps there is still hope?”
“No, the dangers outweigh the possibility.” He moved to stand, looking up at the vaguely man-shaped, seething mass that was Mimic. “Earlier notations from our predecessors note an aggressiveness – sometimes even a malice - that seems associated with the color of the subject’s material. After an early & violent incident, all of its predecessors were incinerated upon reaching a deep shade of green.”
He looked up into Mimic’s impossibly black, glistening visage. It looked back, mimicking his stance.
He shuddered.
“We’ve wasted so much time on this iteration. We should’ve moved on years ago when the color began to shift. We need to start over with less disastrous possibilities.”
The other scientist opened his mouth to protest, but said nothing. After a moment, he frowned and moved to the control panel where his counterpart waited.
“It seems so abrupt to move to incineration. Are we-“
A sickening, wet explosion suddenly rocked the lab. The scientists looked up from their startled crouch to see black goo pasted to the entire interior surface of the confinement cube.
“Did you…” One of them began, before the dust settled.
Black goo was oozing rapidly from a hairline crack in the corner of the cube.
“Authorize!” He yelled. “Incinerate it and lock down the lab!”
They fumbled with the controls with panicked haste and inserted their keys in unison. Without a word, they twisted the keys and punched a switch. Orange light and heat radiated abruptly from behind them and they turned warily. A black, 8 foot tall, manlike shape stood behind them, seemingly made of a constantly melting and reforming liquid. He glistened wetly in the orange light.
Then, for the first time since its creation, it spoke.
“Inferior?” Its voice sounded cold and wet.
Their screams were cut short as they were enveloped in his mass.
When the response team arrived, one of the scientists was there to greet them. He explained that he woke up after an explosion and wasn’t sure what had happened, or where his partner was. After a brief series of questions, he was allowed to leave. He moved into the restroom on his way out. Anyone watching would have seen the scientist melt disgustingly into a floor drain.
Mimic had escaped into the sewers of Zaun.
Fueled by his hatred of mankind and the cruelty of his upbringing, Mimic emerges periodically – each time more grotesque than the last. Half dissolved bones, and the refuse of the sewers protrude occasionally from his exterior. Each victim he consumes adds to his power.
Above all else, his hatred focuses on Zac. The one who others deemed superior. The embodiment of what Mimic had always been judged against. Soon, Mimic would find the Zaun Anamorphous Combatant. Soon the world would know who was inferior.
Abilities:
Passive: Unconfinable Mimic’s tenacity is determined by how low his HP is. At 100% HP, Mimic has 1% bonus tenacity. The tenacity bonus goes up by 1% for each 1% of health mimic loses, until he reaches 10% health – at which time he becomes immune to crowd control effects. Mimic only receives 50% tenacity from items.
If Mimic has not taken damage for 10 seconds from enemy heroes, this tenacity bonus turns into a health regen bonus of the same %. Upon taking hero damage, it reverts back to tenacity.
Mimic’s color darkens from dark green to deep black depending on how low his HP is. At 10% he is jet black, signaling to enemies that he is immune to cc.
Q: Toxic Surge Lunge forward with your goo, if an enemy is struck, deal damage, dash to the other side of that enemy & slow them (dash favors furthest enemy struck). Slow affects all enemies in the shot line, and increases depending on how low mimic’s health is.
W: Caution: Slippery Mimic begins leaving a trail of goo behind him for 2 seconds. Enemies who enter the trail are unable to change their movement trajectory until they slide out of the trail. If enemies pass through mimic’s hitbox during their slide, he heals for 5% of their current HP and they take the same amount in damage. The goo trail lasts for 2 seconds, and is about as wide as a max charge Janna whirlwind. During the slide, enemies can still attack and use abilities.
E: Hyper-conductive A single target skill shot that deals damage and pushes enemies away from Mimic. The distance of the push becomes greater depending on how low Mimic’s current HP is.
R: Mimic Lunge forward in a skill shot. The first enemy you hit is cloned and you become him with equal stats (cooldowns and everything), according to the stats they have currently. The effect ends after 7 seconds. If you die during this effect, Mimic loses 50% of the cloned enemy’s max hp. If you hit an ally, you become an indistinguishable version of them for 5 seconds. During this time, your stats become theirs and you may use all of their abilities except their ultimate. If you die during this effect, Mimic loses 50% of the cloned ally’s max hp.
