(CCOS) Sága, Seer of Wolves
Sága, Seer of Wolves
A seeress from the Freljord who assumes the form of a wolf when no one is looking. She is a jungling support with very little damage and health but a large toolbox of utility.

#Model
Sága is a Freljord seeress (seidkona) of undetermined age with wolf-grey hair, wearing a plain robe, hooded fur cloak painted sacred orange, a beaded necklace with a large silver wolf head and various totems and animal bones. She carries a runestaff adorned with a skull and feathers, which she uses to attack with magical bolts.
In wolf form, she appears as a regular animal with grey fur patterns resembling runes on its shoulders and a necklace of beads.
Skin
- Totemic Sága - She wears a feather headdress and frilly furs and carries a staff with an eagle head. Her animal form is a coyote.
- Nemeton Sága - She wears one of those stereotypical "Celtic" dresses and carries a ritual spear. Her animal form is a spirit wolf.
- Datascourge Sága - Neon-scanline avatar of an active defense AI, scanning the network grid of a connected future for black hat threats. Her animal form is a wireframe panther, the representation of an antivirus search and destroy function.
#Passive
[Passive] Skinwalker http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/e/ea/Summon_Zombie_Dogs.png She is in wolf form when out of sight of all visible enemies and not fighting monsters, otherwise in human form.
"Some say Sága hunts with the wolves she considers her children, but none have ever seen her wearing the form of a wolf..." When the enemy team has sight of Sága or she is in combat with a jungle monster, she is in human form, otherwise she is in wolf form.
In wolf form, Sága gains +10 bonus movement speed per second (capping at +50), regenerates 2% (+0.1/level) max health per second and generates 3 gold per 5 seconds but has no auto attack. Both forms have different basic abilities on separate cooldowns.
If Sága is seen by an enemy sight source that is invisible to her (ward, champion in bush) it does not count as the enemy team having sight of her. This is to prevent this ability from giving away wards and ambushes.
Resource: Fury She generates Fury in wolf form. Human form abilities cost Fury to cast. Sága uses Fury. She generates Fury in wolf form at a rate of 2 (+0.1/level) points per second, up to 100 Fury, and her wolf form abilities generate Fury while her human form spells cost Fury to cast. This encourages her to brawl less and wander more.
#Human form
[Q] Óttastafur http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/2/21/Mantra_of_Healing.png Draw a runic sigil that forces enemies to flee in the direction of the vector arrow.
This is a vector targetted ability, similar to Viktor's death ray (hold down the button to draw an arrow between a start and end point).
Sága magically inscribes a runic sigil of fear on the ground along the vector arrow. The sigil resembles a stylised arrow with runic markings and is inscribed by magic one line at a time. While it is being inscribed, the sigil is stealthed to the enemy team.
When the final line is drawn, the sigil unstealths and detonates with a flash of magic. All enemies standing on the sigil are struck with terror and flee in the direction of the arrow at high speed. Fleeing units are stunned if they run into a wall.
Drawing the sigil takes a long time compared to the telegraphed abilities of other champions, but the enemy team receives no indication that the spell is being cast until the sigil detonates (they only see her Fury go down when the sigil detonates). This rewards Sága for predicting enemy movement - because she is a seeress.
- Cast range: 500
- Sigil area: 400 x 125
- Delay before activation: 1.5 seconds
- Detonation: Flee distance: 550 (at +150% movement speed)
- Detonation: Magic damage: 40/60/80/100/120 (+0.4 AP)
- Wall collision: Stun length: 1 seconds
- Wall collision: Physical damage: 40/60/80/100/120 (+0.6 AP)
- Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10 seconds
- Fury cost: 15
- The sigil for the Totemic Sága skin is a tribal cave painting of a hunter pursuing running animals
- The sigil for the Datascourge Sága skin is the command "RUN > NULL" in that MS-DOS font
[W] Knot of Fetters http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/0/0d/Entangling_Shot.png Channel to damage a crowd controlled enemy and prevent crowd control from wearing off.
Sága targets an enemy unit affected by a movement or action impairing effect (slow, stun, snare, blind, charm, fear, taunt, silence, polymorph, airborne, suppression) and channels. While she channels, her eyes glow red and she waves her staff around, binding the victim with red threads of magic.
The spell deals damage over time. It does not apply any crowd control, but prevents any crowd control effects on the target from ticking down for its duration, effectively extending their duration by the length of the channel. It ends when the victim moves out of range or Sága is interrupted.
Duration is increased against non-champions.
- Cast range: 550
- Duration: Up to 1.6/1.7/1.8/1.9/2.0 seconds (up to 7.5 seconds vs non-champions)
- *Magic damage per second: 35/60/85/110/135 (+0.4 AP)
- Cooldown: 16/14/12/10/8 seconds
- Fury cost: 15
- One of the CCOS judges said in response to Hajali's Serpent Jenni that it could never work on any other character. Challenge accepted.
[E] Fatespinning http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/9/9a/Shadow_Power.png Area of enchanted ground that hides health bars.
Sága marks an area with a fairy ring of small pebbles, preventing the enemy team from seeing the health bars of any champions (friend or foe) within the area: hovering health bars disappear, while the health bars in the HUD turn gray with white runic text. This is considered an action impairing effect for the purpose of Knot of Fetters.
- Cast range: 600
- Radius: 650
- Duration: 6 seconds
- Cooldown: 25/23/21/19/17 seconds
- Fury cost: 20
- The visual for the Totemic Sága skin is a dreamcatcher
- The visual for the Datascourge Sága skin is a large pixelated circle
#Wolf form
[Q] Hex http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/3/31/Lethal_Decoy.png Channel to weaken a target from afar.
Sága howls ominously and channels, cursing a target enemy champion for the duration of the channel. The curse greatly reduces the damage the victim deals and increases the damage the victim takes. Its animation is a glowing rune above the target.
This ability has a very long cast range, there is no visual effect pointing back at Sága and she is not revealed while casting, so this ability can be cast from the fog of war and will not remove wolf form or give away her position.
- Cast range: 1200/1400/1600/1800/2000
- Channel duration: Up to 6 seconds
- While channelling: Target damage dealt: -25% (0.05 AP)
- While channelling: Target damage taken: +25% (0.05 AP)
- Cooldown: 30/26/22/18/14 seconds
- Generates 1 Fury for each 40 damage the cursed target takes
[W] Animal Sight http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/b/b5/Companion.png Channel to clear fog of war and reveal enemy pings and chat.
Sága channels while the sound of a shamanic drum plays, clearing the fog of war around her.
The area of clear sight rapidly expands to well beyond regular champion sight range as she continues to channel, but does not reveal invisible units. If enemy champions are within the area, Sága can see their mouse clicks, pings and team chat messages in blue.
Allied players do not benefit from any of these effects, it is up to Sága to communicate to her team what she sees.
This ability has no maximum duration and continues until she performs another action or loses wolf form. It grants assists when enemy champions die within the area of clear sight.
- Area of clear sight: Radius: 500 (+500 per second, max 1500/1750/2000/2250/2500)
- Cooldown: 30/28/26/24/20 seconds after channel ends
- Generates 4 Fury per second if at least one enemy champion is within the area of clear sight, up to 60 Fury
[E] Seidstone http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/1/1c/Inner_Sanctuary.png Runestone that charges up slowly and can be tapped to heal.
Sága raises a runestone from the ground at a nearby location. It gradually accumulates energy from the ambient air, which is released when Sága or an allied champion right clicks it, emitting a pulse that heals allies within a large radius and restores Fury. This depletes its entire energy supply. Its current energy status is indicated by its mana bar and a column of runes on the runestone illuminating one by one.
When a champion is healed by a runestone and healed again by a runestone within 15 seconds, the latter heal is reduced by 75% (-5% per second between the two heals).
It has an unlimited duration and is not destroyed when activated, but only 5 runestones can exist at any time. Enemies can target the runestone and destroy it with auto attacks or abilities, and she can double click a runestone to demolish it.
The runestone has both a collision radius and a sight radius of 50, meaning Sága and her team can see and select the runestone in the fog of war but nothing else around it.
- Cast range: 500
- Energy charge: +1 per second, up to 200 (it can only be right clicked when it has 15 or more charge)
- Right click radius: 550
- Healing pulse: Radius: 1200
- Healing pulse: Heal amount: 1/2/3/4/5 (+0.015 AP) per point of charge
- Seidstone: Health: 5/6/7/8/9 (takes 1 damage from creeps and monsters, 2 from champion auto attacks, 3 from AoE, 4 from single target abilities and dragon, destroyed by turrets and Smite)
- Generates 1 Fury for each 4 charge points when activated by any player
- The visual for the Totemic Sága skin is a totem pole
- The visual for the Nemeton Sága skin is a menhir
- The visual for the Datascourge Sága skin is a pixelated sprite of a cell antenna
#Both forms
[R] Prophecy http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/diablo.gamepedia.com/e/e5/Smoke_Screen.png Predict the future and choose whether or not to act on it.
When activated, a wolf howls globally and the map is desaturated and covered in rolling mist clouds to simulate the spirit world for several seconds while Sága chants a spell.
If she presses [R] again during that time, the game is rapidly wound back to its state at the time of casting. If she does not, the game continues as normal and its cooldown is reduced.
Casting this ability does not interrupt channels.
- Duration: up to 6 seconds
- Cooldown: 180/160/140 seconds (120 seconds if rollback is not used)
- No Fury cost but does not generate Fury
- The visual for the Datascourge Sága skin is white signal noise
#Gameplay
Early jungle Despite having a support kit and being incredibly fragile, Sága is a jungler because her kit is not well suited to laning: she cannot gain Fury without being in wolf form or activating a Seidstone, so losing bush control would leave her with no way to replenish her Fury and therefore no way to fight.
She jungles by using Óttastafur to force the jungle camp to flee into a wall, then using Knot of Fetters to keep the large monster stunned while dishing out tons of damage. She eventually runs out of Fury doing this, so she should scatter some Seidstones around her jungle to serve as Fury batteries, preferably near lanes to help out the laners as well (she gains Fury regardless of who activates the Seidstone).
Ganking by straight up walking into a lane is difficult because the gank fails if Óttastafur misses and she is very squishy and slow, but she has much safer ways to "gank". She could have the laner bait the opposing laner into a 1v1 and then channel Hex from the fog of war to give her laner a massive advantage once the opponent is committed, but the opponent can counter this by deep warding. Alternatively, she can "reverse gank" by placing a Seidstone near the lane (or "reverse lane gank" by placing it in the banana bush) so the laner has access to a powerful instant heal.
Late jungle Prophecy at level 6 gives her another way to make foes and influence people from across the map. It allows her to watch the next 6 seconds play out and either accept the outcome or try again. This can give her team two chances at escaping trouble or preventing the enemy from doing so. Counterplay involves appearing to be overwhelming or weak when you are the opposite in order to bait her into making the wrong choice between resetting or not resetting.
Her Fury issues do not go away over time. Here's one manaless champion with actual resource issues. She has to stay in wolf form to generate Fury, making it very important to have a network of Seidstones and not butt heads 5v5 in mid lane for 10 minutes as bronze is known to do.
Teamfights She is weak in a straight up brawl, so her first job is to see a teamfight coming with Animal Sight and allow her team to get the drop on the enemy with a charged Seidstone nearby.
When she does enter combat, Óttastafur and Knot of Fetters are powerful abilities, but Knot of Fetters should ideally be used on allied crowd control that is more impactful than a hard to aim conditional stun. A 3.5 second Infinite Duress or 4.25 second Taunt is super effective. It does require her to channel, which may leave her with a bad case of the deads.
Fatespinning is hard to quantify and deals no damage, but can cause enemy assassins to overcommit and squishies to chicken out early. If they do make the correct decision, well, it was all just a Prophecy.
Once she runs out of Fury in combat (2 spell rotations plus any refill from a nearby Seidstone) she has little choice but to run away and use Hex from behind a wall or Animal Sight to replenish Fury (and hopefully also reveal important pings).

#Lore
Svanirsfjall Glacier, Freljord
To the dismay of the small expedition, the trail of climbing hooks ended at the foot of the unforgiving icy face of the Dragon's Breach, indicating where the last and bravest climber was defeated by the mountain. The Bears took point, putting their years of mountaineering experience to the test. Carving out handholds and footrests in the smooth ice, they slowly made their way up the vertical wall. Behind them followed the huntress, struggling to keep up. She was a fierce warrior on the battlefield, but not at home on this wretched ice.
Queen Ashe, as the Bears called her, though she was no Queen yet. The Avarosans had managed to defeat the rampaging Winter's Claw tribe, but not before the blood of many good men and women on both sides was spilled. Ashe attempted to shake Sejuani's hand and she took it as a fist. A thousand years of Freljord history summarised in one pointless battle.
With their best warriors slain and their leader missing, the Winter's Claw had accepted her offer of peace. The Bears considered it just another military triumph, but it was much more than that. She was the only one not wearing the white garments of victory, for final victory - the unification of the Freljord - was still a distant dream.
At long last, the expedition reached the summit, a windswept plain of permafrost. The glitter of a distant halo momentarily blinded her, the first sunlight after a long dark winter. Within days, the glacier would melt and collapse, rendering the summit and its sole inhabitant, Sága the ancient seeress, unreachable for four long months.
From the petrified trees in the distance, wolves barked. Before the Bears could put their hands on their weapons, a frozen arrow hit one of the carnivores in the eye. The pack scattered into the undergrowth, yelping. The huntress put her ice bow away with a hint of sadness. Like many humans, animals only understand violence.
"Ashe! Frost Archer! I was expecting you!" The old seeress had appeared from the undergrowth. The Bears had expected a cackling crone, but she looked timeless, as if she was born with those long grey manes and that one blind eye. They remained respectfully silent, for they knew the story of her life, preserved in skalds' songs written centuries ago.
In a mist-shrouded past, Sága lost her parents as a child and was raised by the animals of Svanirsfjall. When the petty chief of a mercenary tribe found her, he made the fateful decision to adopt her instead of impaling her on his spear for laughs, perhaps aware of the power she held. After a series of miraculous victories on the northern fields, the tribal chief almost succeeded in subjugating the entire Freljord when she suddenly disappeared on the eve of the decisive battle. The chief's fate was lost to history. Throughout the ages, whenever a warlord managed to conquer enough of the Freljord to crown themselves jarl, she stood at their side, disappearing again when their dominion inevitably crumbled.
Ashe bowed and offered her a sacred bowl, one of the five she had found on the ancient cairn. It was not much, but an army on the move has litttle in the way of luxuries to give away. "Ashe," she spoke. Her voice was frail, but the Bears swore they felt the mountain tremble. "So young, yet you carry a heavy burden!" She laid her hand on Ashe's head. "Before summer comes, the Freljord shall be united under one Queen!"
"But beware the wolf! She shall be your undoing!" Ashe was the only one who heard the warning, because the Bears had already erupted into loud cheering: "Queen Ashe! Queen Ashe!". At long last, the Freljord would be united. That much she knew, for Sága's prophecies always came true.
But after Ashe bid farewell to the seeress and the expedition commenced the arduous descent, she did make sure to keep an eye on the wolves in the frozen forest.
Svanirsfjall Glacier, Freljord
A group of fur-clad berserks clawed their way up the smooth ice of the Dragon's Breach. Their leader, an imposing warrior woman carrying an arsenal of weaponry carved from true ice, loudly voiced her displeasure with the forsaken wasteland the seeress called home.
The others looked around uneasily, expecting a curse to befall her. Few had ever seen the seeress, but her name was whispered with fearful tongue and they expected her vengeful eyes behind every block of ice, watching them struggle with glee. They all remembered the day when an entire platoon of Winter's Claw cavalry was buried by a freak avalanche moments after one of them cursed her name in the aftermath of a lost battle. Yet as the future ruler of the Freljord, their leader could not afford to ignore her prophecies.
At long last, they reached the ice-covered summit. A pack of wolves awaited them. Without hesitation, she leaped at the nearest animal and struck with her flail. Its leg snapped like a twig and the pack scattered to the four winds. Triumphantly, she looked around daring nature to ambush her again, and straight into the unblinking eye of the seeress. She had been expecting them - of course.
The berserks, afraid of her power, fell to the ground and bowed. Only their leader remained standing, towering over the decrepit old woman. "Bow, you idiot!", one of the berserks snarled. She reluctantly bowed.
"Sága! Tell me whether I will succeed in conquering the Freljord!". It was considered a sacred tradition to let an elder speak first. The seer stared through the warrior, anger flaring in her good eye. "Sejuani! Winter's Claw! The Freljord shall fear you! No Avarosan or Frostguard shall harm you!"
Sejuani rose and yelled a primitive warcry of victory, but the seeress was not finished yet. She grabbed her furs and pulled the warrior closer. "Watch out for the teeth of the wolf!", she hissed. "They will betray you! Send you to Himminheim!"
"Wolves? I slew my first wolf before I could speak!" To demonstrate, she whirled her heavy flail and shouted a command word, sending its heavy head whistling towards the glint of eyes watching from the dead forest. A blast of true ice shards splintered the frozen trees. When the head returned to her hand, it was covered in wolf blood. "Let them try! They will feed my boar!", she laughed.
Leaning on her staff, her crippled leg dragging behind her, the seeress watched them as they descended. None of them caught the hint of fury in her wrinkled expression. Blood would beget blood...
Southern Tundra, Freljord
A boar mournfully licked the blood from its master's corpse, but its master would never move again. Its saddlebags were empty, looted by foreign raiders. Outlaws from Kaledoun, neither Avarsan nor Frostguard. They probably had no idea that they had claimed the life of the Winter's Claw herself with one well-aimed wolfstooth spear.
Svanirsfjall Glacier, Freljord
The huntress fought her way up the glacier against a stream of meltwater. The Bears were no longer with her; they had chosen a different Queen.
Her reign was over, her dream shattered into a thousand pieces of black ice. The Frostwolf clan had betrayed her at the althing she had convoked to ceremonially unite the Freljordian tribes. Their leader Lissandra had called a vote to have her exiled, and the elders had voted for the witch.
Ashe realised that Lissandra must have put a spell on them, but it was far too late to change the outcome. The Avarosans and Winter's Claw were assimilated by the Frostguard and her ancestral lands had been taken from her and united under the wretched rule of Lissandra and the dark forces controlling her. The seeress was her only hope to bring peace back to the Freljord. Blinded by the reflection of the noonday sun, she gritted her teeth and took another step...
Atop the mountain, the seeress looked up at the pale glow of the sun. At long last, summer was returning to the icy north. Many had disturbed her rest during the dark winter. Two of them had dared to harm her, and as a consequence their people would suffer under the Ice Witch's reign for the next thousand years.
She bared her teeth and howled, a deafening sound echoing across the unstable glacier. Her pack retreated from the edge with their tails between their legs. As she shapeshifted back to human form, blocks of melting ice began to roll and the glacier collapsed with a low rumble.
