Champion Concept: Calima, the Wind's Disciple
#Calima, the Wind's Disciple
Ionia Marksman/ Mage
Design Philosophy
The idea behind her was to create a new type of marksman. One that used a different way of dealing damage at range. What is one of the most powerful things in our world that can reach you no matter what the distance: Wind. It's power stretches across our globe and it's source doesn't have to be near you for you to feel the effects, wind is the most powerful long distance effect. So why hasn't it been implemented as marksman theme? This is probably due to the fact that the League already host two wind themed champs or that a viable way hasn't been thought of. But this champion is different, the way that she utilizes wind is strictly material. She does not have an arcane or spiritual connection to the essence of wind, she does not make use of special techniques or teachings. She has large fan to generate these high powered winds, by swiping it around with great force. She is less about finesse and more about raw power, and a sustained output. Thematically she was designed to be more like wind and what wind can do, what wind is all about, rather than use wind or control or contort it to her views, she allows the force of wind to flow through and out. Wind is more than tornados. Wind is unpredictable, wild, uncontrollable, flowing, fluctuating, and possesses unfathomable power, it's endless. She disrupts other marksmen play styles the way a rough wind can buffet structures. Like the wind she can deal a ton of devastating damage in an instant gust. Or she can keep up a sustain torrent of squalls by preserving her power and keeping her output low. Always fickle like the wind her playstyle can change in an instant. Watch out, as the wind is as powerful as it is unpredictable. No one knows when the winds will come but when they do they hit hard.
Inspiration: wind, air currents, high winds, whirlwind, squall, gale, air stream, crosswind, jet stream
#Abilities
Passive - Growing Turbulence: Every AA landed leaves stationary small squalls on the ground lasting 5 sec. This cannot affect a target twice within 6 sec. If she or an ally stands in a squall they consume it, increasing their AS by a % equal to 10% of her current mana for 3 sec. If one of her abilities passes a squall it consumes it gaining 5% bonus of her magic damage for each one it passes. Squall AoE radius is 65 units.
Ex: if Calima has 300 mana and steps in a squall her AS will be increased by 30%
Q - Jet Stream: Active: She unleashes a wide gust in a line dealing damage to all enemy units, dealing less damage as it travels, & leaving behind an AoE for 6 sec. Allied skill shots gain 0.02 magic damage per unit traveled in the jet stream and gain 50% increased missile speed. Enemy skill shots lose 10% AP/AD if they pass the jet stream. Passive: On activation the next AAs within 3 sec will pass through units and travel the full length of Wind Tunnel after they hit their targets if the unit is within the AoE.
W - Sundering Blast: She slams her fan to the ground forcing out a powerful downward forced gale, dealing x/x/x/x/x damage (+ 5% mana) and knocking down the first enemy hit. Enemy units 250 units left or right of the missile will be knocked aside as it passes. The knock aside AoE will blow 400 units pass the collision point. (Initial unit hit will not be knocked aside.)
E - Approaching Storm: Passive: Every time she damages an enemy she gains a stack of E for 5 sec. Stacks have a 20- 30-50% chance of maxing at 3, 5, or 9 stacks respectively. At max stacks the next AA activates Windstorm. Active - Windstorm: She consumes her E stacks, granting the next 6 AA double her AS, and removes the Growing Turbulences target effect CD. The 6th AA becomes an 65 degree AoE cone filling from right to left. All passive squalls within the AoE blow out, doubling their AS buff, and doubling their own AoE radii to deal damage, and knock away nearby enemy units once before disappearing after 3 sec. When active the passive is deactivated until off CD.
Note: Max stack selection calculation starts after an enemy is damaged when the ability becomes available. The cone of the 6th AA originates from her and spreads the damage of 1 AA across the entire AoE, the radius of the cone is her AA range. Each squall deals damage and knocks back once when it blows out, but AoE radii increase persists for 3 sec. Abilities only add 1 stack each. Runaan's Hurricane's and Devourer's extra AAs do not generate Approaching Storm stacks.
R - Four Winds: Passive: Enemy champions recently displaced by CC take bonus damage from her next AA. Active: Channels for 1.75 sec and releases 4 winds from her front, back, left and right; respective of the angle she's facing. The winds deal high initial damage (+ 5% mana) and a small DoT, dealing less over 4 sec to all in their path. At max Approaching Storm stacks, Four Winds deals bonus damage (+ 5x W's Rank) if used before the active. Four Winds leaves a passive squall on the location of all enemy units hit. Enemy champions moving through the wind channels to the center suffer an 80% decaying slow. (Each wind blast counts as a separate skillshot).
#Lore A breeze meanders across a bluff through the wild grasses. Wind whistles out over the cliff edge over looking a vista of one of Ionia's many beautiful coastlines. All is quiet except for the wind whispering through the tall grass.
Suddenly warning bells clang across the coast! The once calm and slow paced village below jumps to action. Panicked people rush to and fro gathering supplies, stashing wares, and grabbing weapons. Children are ushered into cellars and the men take arms to their fleet of small sail boats. The port must be protected.
Black sails have been spotted rounding the jagged cliff walls at the entrance to the bay and are closing in fast. The wide, rotten, barnacle speckled hull turns to face the port wharfs plowing through the breakwaters, sails full.
Pirates have come to ravage the coast town, and the ship rushes forth at full speed lusting for plunder. The towns people are hardly prepared for this surprise attack and the fierce greed of the pirates will run them over, their defense will be all but pitiful.
But the ship is delayed by a powerful seaward gale, slowing its progress. The sails have suddenly fallen slack, all but empty of any tailwind that fueled its progress only seconds ago and now faces a strong and steady headwind. The big ship cannot make headway. But the natives nimble port ships take advantage of the wind now on their side, rushing at the pirate ships to sting them.
The pirates are denied their desires, by the unpredictable wind, and must turn away.
Calima stands atop the bluff watching all take place, a resident of the port she took refuge in the high ground but was curious to see what happen. Her eyes widen when she realizes the key element in play: Wind, and she realizes just how powerful it is, everything is at the whim on the wind. If only she could tap into that power...
#Quotes Wind is not a tool you can bend to your will Wind is not easily controlled That was a breeze! Wind is unpredictable, uncontrollable Wind, it can be a destructive force, or soothing breeze A storm is nothing without wind. Feel the flow of wind, do not fight it The wind howls The wind whispers in my eye Nothing can stand in my way with the wind at my side Blow them away If you don't know what is coming, you won't be able to prepare Do not hesitate, go forth at full power A fool forces their way through a storm You cannot stop a driving force The wind is my guide
#Activating E A storm arises, unstoppable!! Wind is as powerful as it is unpredictable
#Tips Build mana, it increases your AS, which works with Q and E To maximize your passive don't only last hit and don't focus one target alone, spread it out Try to line Q and E up with passive squalls Once Q is up try to keep your targets in the wind tunnel and get as many AA and abilities in the AoE when possible The more passive squalls out when E activates the stronger the ability will be Calima is all about maintaining control of her area, if you can maintain a high number of squalls your damage will stay high If a target wanders outside of the Q AoE just knock them back in with the side of W
#Tips No one knows when E will max out stacks not even Calima, but she will capitalize on it so be ready Watch out when Calima starts building up her passive in one spot, she could line up a devastating W Q combo on you You don't have to dodge the entire W skillshot, the sides only knock targets aside. Pushing the lane and forcing Calima to keep changing position in lane will mess up her flow She struggles when near towers where she can't line up skill shots or organize squalls thanks to minions clumping up She is mana hungry
