Lore

Knee deep in the bones of the walking dead, the adventuring party hacked their way through the skeletons barring their way. The Tomb of Skulls had thrown undead at them, traps, illusions and a sphere of annihilation that didn't look like one and took the life of the party bard. Those few skeletons would not stop them.

As the last of the skeletons shattered into bone fragments, the far wall of the room slid away, revealing their objective on a pedestal in a pool of blood: a blackwood staff adorned with a skull with a large green gem embedded in its forehead. The legendary Staff of Doom, granting unparallelled mastery over the elements and the forces of magic. "Me see staff!", the oaf next to Jerek Thur exclaimed, no doubt looking forward to sacrifice it to his volcano god. Doubloon signs appeared in the rogue's shifty eyes, while the blackguard whispered a sinister prayer of thanks to her Darkin gods.

This is the part where everyone backstabs each other, Jerek Thur realised. Unlike him, none of the other party members was remotely capable of envisioning the ultimate power within this staff and ruling the world with an iron fist as DARK LORD OF MAGIC ITSELF!

Before he could come up with a plan, a voice from the abyss shook the tomb. A towering demon emerged from the pool of blood, wreathed in screaming souls. "I AM KAARNAX OF THE DARKIN, GUARDIAN OF DOOM. WHY DO YOU SEEK MY STAFF, ADVENTURERS?"

The blackguard stepped forward and bowed, making a pentagram sign. "Oh great Darkin lord, as a devout worshipper of the forces of e--" With a scream, the blackguard exploded. "WRONG ANSWER. ROGUE! WHY DO YOU SEEK MY STAFF?"

"To sow chaos in your name! To make the world tremble before this symbol of your almighty power, so that the unworthy vermin of Runeterra will bow to their rightful--", the rogue lied. He never completed his sentence. "AND YOU, BARBARIAN. WHY DO YOU DESIRE MY STAFF?" The barbarian shoved Jerek Thur at the Darkin and started to run towards the exit. The sorcerer stepped aside, avoiding the flying blood and guts.

"SORCERER!", the Darkin's voice boomed through the room. In response, Jerek Thur turned to the staff on the pedestal and called the staff to him with an arcane gesture. He raised it high, sending a bolt of lightning into the ceiling. When he spoke, his voice almost seemed louder than the Darkin's. "I DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER TO YOU. I TAKE WHAT I WANT, AND NOT YOU, NOT YOUR MASTERS AND NOT THE FIRES OF HELL ITSELF WILL STOP ME. FOR TO KNEEL IS WEAKNESS. TO RULE IS STRENGTH. THAT IS THE LAW OF THE DARKIN!"

He pointed the Staff of Doom at the demon, which exploded in a ball of fire and ice and thunder. Jerek Thur smirked. Right answer. He blasted a hole in the roof, revealing sunlight and the surprised faces of a few herders and a puzzled sheep or two. Carried by the howling winds of an elemental storm, he floated towards the surface. Tremble and despair, people of Runeterra! The Institute of War had banished him when he descended down the path of darkness, calling him weak! Now he would show them. He would show them ALL!

Model

Jerek Thur is a classical dark mage in hooded black robes with green runes along the seams. His face is hidden underneath his hood, revealing only his green glowing eyes. Tied to his belt are a spell component pouch, several spellbooks, elixirs and a Krater of Might. When affected by a significant speed boost, he hovers along.

He has slightly thicker cell shading lines in order to evoke eighties style fantasy art. When he dies, a few large dice fall out of his component pouch.

He wields the Staff of Doom with a large horned skull with a green crystal stabbed through it. When auto attacking, he fires a forked lightning bolt of multi-coloured elemental energy from it.

Skins Executor Jerek Thur - The Khala is strength and justice. The Khala is all. Justice Jerek Thur - Reward for top 5% Tribunal judges. Comes with a toga, sceptre and laurel crown.

Abilities

[Concept] Preparing spells Using the Staff of Doom, Jerek Thur can create new spells from the building blocks of magic.

Spells are prepared using the three non-ultimate abilities (elements). These abilities do nothing by themselves, but when three elemental buttons are pressed within 2 seconds, a new spell is prepared based on the chosen elements with a flashy animation of dark magic circles and runes and goes into the ultimate slot. It can now be used at will until another spell is prepared.

  • Element 1: determines the effect of the spell.
  • Element 2: determines the shape of its effect.
  • Element 3: modifies the stats of the spell.

Three small icons are visible above Jerek Thur to indicate which elements were used in the current spell. Also, key macros are deterred by a minimum delay of 0.75 seconds after pressing the first element before the spell appears (pressing the keys faster makes you wait a bit before the spell appears).

The prepared spell has a cooldown of 15 seconds and a mana cost of 60 (+2 per level). Preparing a spell has a cooldown of 10 seconds (affected by his passive) and a mana cost of 50 (the elements are greyed out during the cooldown or when out of mana). This means it is always faster to craft the same spell again, but more expensive.

Each element goes up to level 6; Jerek Thur has no ultimate.

[Passive] Staff of Doom The Staff of Doom stores arcane power, enabling Jerek Thur to prepare spells much faster. He has up to 15 stacks of DOOM!, each reducing the base cooldown of spell preparation by 0.5 seconds. Upon preparing a spell, he loses 3 stacks, affecting the cooldown the next preparation will have. Stacks regenerate at a rate of 1 every 4 seconds.

[Q] Qorak - Fire

Element 1: "Blazing..." The prepared spell uses the element of fire and deals 40/60/80/100/120/140 (+0.4 AP) damage to enemy units, followed by 15/35/55/75/95/115 (+0.3 AP) burning damage over 4 seconds. (Overhead icon: a flame)

Element 2: "...Bolt..." The prepared spell manifests as a 1600 speed, 900 range skillshot fired from Jerek Thur's staff that impacts the first enemy unit it hits. (Overhead icon: a fireball)

Element 3: "...of Might" The prepared spell is exceptionally powerful, gaining 15% increased damage and/or slow duration. (Overhead icon: a plus sign)

[W] Wydh - Frost

Element 1: "Chilling..." The prepared spell uses the element of ice and deals 45/70/95/120/145/170 (+0.4 AP) damage to enemy units and slows its target by 40/45/50/55/60/65%, tapering to 0% over 1.5 seconds. (Overhead icon: a snowflake)

Element 2: "...Wave..." The prepared spell manifests as a cone shaped blast of elemental energy, instantly hitting all enemy units in a 500 range 60 degree area in front of Jerek Thur. (Overhead icon: a cone)

Element 3: "...of Deflection" The prepared spell grants Jerek Thur a shield upon hitting an enemy champion. Shield strength is equal to 35% of its base damage (+5% per additional enemy champion hit) and it lasts for 1.5 seconds. (Overhead icon: a shield with icicles)

[E] Eshuz - Lightning

Element 1: "Draining..." The prepared spell uses the element of lightning and deals 50/80/110/140/170/200 (+0.5 AP) damage to enemy units, restoring health and mana equal to 15% of the damage dealt against champions and 5% against minions (capped at 5 minions). (Overhead icon: a plus and minus sign)

Element 2: "...Storm..." The prepared spell is a delayed ground target area effect with a cast range of 750. Jerek Thur raises his staff to the heavens, calling down a rain of elemental force (meteors, blizzard, lightning bolts) that impacts a 275 radius area after a 0.8 second delay. The storm lasts for 2 seconds, but targets can only be hit once. (Overhead icon: a raining cloud)

Element 3: "...of Reach" The prepared spell is more efficient, gaining 25% increased cast range. (Overhead icon: a double headed arrow)

[R] [Name depends on prepared spell] This slot is taken up by the spell Jerek Thur has prepared.

The math

Jerek Thur's passive enables him to rapidly cast several spells, but he runs out of steam after a few casts. Taking into account that it takes 0.75 seconds to prepare a spell...

With 0% CDR Spell #1 is prepared in advance. Spell #2 is ready 0.75 seconds later Spell #3 is ready 3.25 seconds later. Spell #4 is ready 4.75 seconds later. (One stack is replenished) Spell #5 is ready 5.75 seconds later. (One stack is replenished) Etc.

With 20% CDR Spell #1 is prepared in advance. Spell #2 is ready 0.75 seconds later Spell #3 is ready 2.75 seconds later. Spell #3 is ready 3.95 seconds later. Spell #3 is ready 5.15 seconds later. (One stack is replenished) Spell #3 is ready 5.95 seconds later. (Two stacks are replenished) Etc.

Pretty good.

The idea sounds fun, but I think it wouldn't be a practical champion to play at all since you have to use 4 button presses just to use 1 ability. In a fast paced team fight... Yeah. Better hope your AA does some damage.

I do like the idea of having to memorize his combos though. Reminds me of the Warden class in Lord of the Rings Online.

Greetings, Amazing new concepts and original gameplay. The cool down mechanic seems a bit confusing to me but it looks great how it is. I really hope to see it on the rift.

Conclusion:

Concept/identity: great Number: coherent. Game experience: Good. *(Just a mage but doesn't have any unique function by itself. EG: Malzahar is a pick mage, Ryze is a late game burst mage, syndra is an assassin/pick, Zilean is an utility, Karthus is a janitor mage, all have specific function where they excel. The problem to be able to do a lot of think is the need to be used to fit a strategic role.) * **Model: **hmm need something to make it look more unique but it is ok. While Robe mage skeleton is taken by Karthus, and the everyday mage are taken by Zilean and Veigar, they all do have distinctive trait relating to their magic. The model here (not talking about the picture but the description) is a bit to bland to relate to its magic.

Afterthought: I really like it in general good job.

You must be a DotA player. He's so similar to Invoker it's not even funny. But, beings as I like Invoker, I like this guy. Could do with a bit more development and cleaning, but overall great thing to put in league.

Yea I'd like him a lot. It's a cool reference to invoker and I think it'd be a lot of fun.

Invoker's abilities make sense with his spells
