R: Surge of power
Active: Ryze unleashes a ball of pure magic at target location, dealing magic damage in an area and marking enemies with flux. For each enemy champion hit by Surge of power Ryze gains % magic penetration for 5 seconds.
Magic penetration: 4/6/8% Cooldown: 120/105/90 Cost: None
Balance accordingly. Would recommend lowering damage across the board, bounce damage and Q damage mainly. What this ult gives Ryze is reliable access to his AOE damage in team fights.
FortiethAtom42 votesIt's a cool ultimate idea, and it makes Ryze fit in better with other, less mobile control mages. However, the major problem with this is that a new ultimate would not agree with Ryze's extensive lore (which often depicts him using his ult for better access to the World Runes, among other things). Because of this, I don't know how likely it is that Riot would agree to change Ryze's R.
Indifferent1 votesI understand the importance of the lore and consistency, but I also believe that Ryze shouldn't be given an ultimate like that if it makes him a large issue in pro play. Maybe they could just write a short story that says, "btw he can make portals lol" and that would be enough to justify the cinematics.

Indifferent1 votesYeah I know the proposed ult nothing new or flashy, but it is functional and does its intended purpose of reliably giving him back line access.
With his current ult I honestly agree with your statements, it is unique and definitely not useless since it can be used as an escape, catch etc. and I have won dozens of games using it. But... It is very abuseable by coordinated teams and, unlike most ults. in solo que it can actually cause more harm than good with inexperienced players.
