Dauntless Ahri is pretty much universally preferred..

Don't worry it's PBE so Riot can take the players advice and then use it to make the game better, like revert Sona nerfs or change the name back to Dauntless.

What I would like to know is why there hasn't been a statement from Riot about this issue at all. We haven't even been told why it was renamed initially...

The reason behind the name change to Challenger Ahri is the fact that when you see "Challenger," you know the meaning behind the skin. It's the beginning of the season and signals the long trek through the ranks, just as the Championship series demonstrates the end of it. As for "Dauntless," as good as the name sounds, it doesn't fall into the theme of the new name series and doesn't, in this case, mean anything.

The sad thing is that if you look to all thoses threads (the Ahri splash art ones, the skin name ones, etc.) you don't see a single Rioter post in any of them trying to discuss with the community or to explain things like, "Why was the name changed?", then they say "We want to be the most player-focused game company in the world".

Actually Dauntless Ahri was requested by the community to get a name change, because they did not understand how that word really correlated with the beginning of a new season. I was one of them. Challenger Ahri was then revealed and many people hated it because it did not necessarily correlated with Ahri this time. Then people started to state that Dauntless was the best option; now they should have changed it back due to PBE community backlash, and dont expect REDS to come on a live forum to discuss about what is happening in PBE. Sorry for the rant, but it honestly is the truth.

Dauntless is superior, if only because you can challenge something and still be daunted by it, speaking from the point of language. In other words, anyone could be a challenger, but being dauntless is something special.

I've been waiting for a Rioter to comment on something as well, nothing though. Still, "Challeneger," how can they not see that title be abused as calling someone challenged.

I would like to know if they even are aware of the "Dauntless Ahri" favor compared to "Challenger Ahri."

And even if they did release the skin under "Challenger Ahri," I'm sure the skin would be getting some feedback that gravitates over the abuse of the word Challenged.

Why are so many people getting upset over a name? A skin is about the way it looks. Geez, it's like people who play this game for free think they can make all the decisions.

Well if you want a reason, Riot and many others have given one: "Dauntless Ahri" just didn't give off the proper theme of "Get ready to climb."

Personally I think neither really fit that theme. I mean there's the confusion of "Challenger" the new skin series and "Challenger" the highest ranked tier. It makes it difficult to explain, and if a skin title is difficult to explain you've got a problem.

However, "Dauntless" is probably more difficult to explain; in the end, it makes sense (a dauntless climb will ultimately lead to victory), but it just doesn't jump out to you as "yes, this skin line 'Dauntless' is to commemorate the beginning of the season." Look at its counterpart line, Championship: I don't really have to explain much, its a skin line to commemorate the League Championship...and further it uses a champion that was significant throughout the season. The Victorious skins: you did it, you got gold, count this season as a "victory", again not much to explain here and again, uses a champion that had a large impact that season. "Dauntless" just doesn't jump out in the same way.

Furthermore, are we supposed to assume Ahri is in a strong position to dominate the season? I'll be honest, I haven't seen many Ahri's lately, and she just doesn't seem to represent this skin line as well as, say, Thresh and Elise did their respective skin lines, or Shyvana and Morgana. I'm assuming that since they created this skin line along the same idea as those two (Victorious and Championship) then similarly they should use a champion with a great deal of impact. To clarify, I'm not saying Ahri is not going to be impactful this season or that she's not strong: I'm just saying it doesn't look that way from this end of Season 5.

Sorry about the rant. Usually this is the part where I try to suggest a fix. Well, obviously Ahri is going to get this skin no matter what...and fair enough, it definitely looks cool. As for the name....I did some thinking about this, and couldn't find any clear solutions. I thought about "Climber Ahri" but that could be taken too literally, like a rock climber; synonyms "Ascension Ahri" or "Ascending Ahri" is a concept already taken up in the lore with Azir and friends. Similarly, "Scaling Ahri" makes it sound like the skin makes Ahri scale better into late game. "Mounting Ahri"....just no.

I thought about picking a "modest" adjective to describe starting at a low rank, but "Plebian Ahri" or "Unassuming Ahri" just didn't seem to fit.

The best name I can think of is "Aspiring Ahri": this skin commemorates the beginning of a season and all the dreams and aspirations we have for it. It doesn't sound as tough as "Dauntless" but I personally think it fits better.

The people who like the name or are justifying are getting negged so does it even matter if people comment aout liking it? It's fine imo... And names change all the time like check skin spotlights youtube, there are many cases where high popularity people get skin name changes like that mecha yasuo etc. people just want a reason to complain from what i see

It will most likely be the deciding factor if I get the skin or not, the name Dauntless just gives such a different feel to the skin

It's probably for contingency reasons. "Challenger" is the name of the entire skin line, not just Challenger Ahri. While I agree with you (and most people) that "Dauntless" just sounds a billion times better "Challenger" is just more mainstreamed. Think of it as being dumbed down for the masses. Riot probably fears two things:

1. "Dauntless? What's that mean?" - 1/6th of the playerbase, probably. "Challenger? Oh I know what that is!" - Everybody over the age of 9, probably.

2. For the sake of future champions in the skin line the phrase "dauntless" just might not fit them. Dauntless Maokai vs Challenger Maokai. Dauntless Darius vs Challenger Darius. Dauntless Sejuani vs Challenger Sejuani. While "dauntless" fits Ahri perfectly, it doesn't fit everybody.

Yeah. I don't really care as much as other people but I do agree that Dauntless sounds better. I also wonder why rito hasn't changed it yet, but it's still the same skin so it's fine with me.

As much as I love Ahri, I really think this skin is ugly AF. I'll be buying it anyway because I love Ahri and own the rest of her skins already, but don't ever plan on using it tbh. Fun fact: Dynasty Ahri has a unique dance not many know about! Cutest dance by far

Pretty sure the name is finalized as Challenger, as the patch is hitting on Thursday and there's been no indication that they planned on changing it back

I am completely fine with Challenger Ahri. I don't really understand why people blow a skin name, of all things, out of proportion.
