######Note: This series' purpose is to be a catalyst to create concepts for the rest of the community. While it itself is not a concept I hope it will spawn quite a few, hence its presence in Skin & Champion Concepts

Hello and welcome to the weekly Community Challenge! Here's where you can stretch your respective creative chops and see some other aweome ideas. These challenges will have several different "modes" ranging from [Rework] to [Sing Along], and I'll be throwing a challenge out every week, Monday morning.

#Community Challenge #1 | 8.18.14

Mode = Rework

Target = Zilean Zilean

Rework our favorite time wizard's kit into something you feel is more appropriate to his theme and is a more cohesive gameplay style.

  • Do not include numbers, it's easier to get the general ideas across and discuss that ([high/medium/low] [damage/range/etc] is fine)

  • Keep the lore! That's the challenge here fellas, work with the current lore, build off of it!

#Logistics

If anyone wants to discuss what challenge to do next, about the current challenge or even give feedback/ideas about the Concept Contests as well I'm planning on making a client chatroom for that later. I am currently indisposed from the League client for various reasons until later this week.

Let's see... I'm trying to keep him similar, but very different. I'm primarily going on a theme of predicting what's going to happen in the near future and reacting accordingly (so he would be difficult to use, but powerful). Also note that all numbers may be subject to change.

He has fairly high cooldowns and probably a mana barrier.

Passive: Time Well: Zilean's abilities cause time wells to be created. One second after an area is affected by an ability (including Time Warp and Chronoshift), that area becomes a Time Well (for approx. 2 seconds) that slows down enemies inside of it and speeds up allies. (This might not be the best passive for him to have and it's a little hard to explain, but it might help him land his abilities, and I couldn't think of anything better... I may update this later if I get a better idea.)

Q: Time bomb: Zilean places a time bomb on the ground for up to 3 seconds. He may then detonate it whenever he wants to (it automatically detonates after 3 seconds). However, the longer it charges, the more damage it deals when he detonates it (small to medium damage). Additionally, all of his other cooldowns are reduced by 1 second for every second he charges it per enemy champion hit.

W: Rewind: (Note that this might have to be made into his ultimate (and have the numbers increased).) Zilean places a mark on the ground and sets a direction for it to go in (similarly to Janna's Howling Gale). It stays there for up to .5/.75/1/1.25/1.5 seconds. He may reactivate it whenever he wants to (it dissipates with no effect if he doesn't reactivate it). If he reactivates it, it sends a small skillshot (approx. speed and distance of Lulu's Glitterlance, but wider) that returns all enemy champions hit to their original locations when he began charging.

E: Time Warp: Zilean places a mark upon a champion. If they are an ally, he increases their speed over a duration of 7 seconds (the boost starts out small, but gradually increases, similarly to Rammus' Powerball). If they are an enemy, they are slowed instead of sped up.

R: Chrono Shift: Zilean places a rune on an allied champion for up to 5 seconds. If that champion dies, they are then revived with an amount of health scaling on how long the rune was on them (0%-25%/0%-50%/0%-75% of their max health plus a flat amount scaling on AP that also increases with time).

The idea here is to create a champion that seemingly knows the future. He requires you to use all of his spells ahead of time to get the fullest effect. I tried to keep as many of his old spells as possible while making them more interesting and making his Q less obnoxious (and removing his global passive). I also kept most of the names because they still fit, and I'm not creative enough to think of new ones :P

I actually had a draft of a Zilean rework laying around in my Docs... so here goes nothing. I'm gonna discover its content at the same time as you (technically, a bit sooner, since I have to reread to to complete it and make sure I agree with myself).

Theme : Support-over-time

Pros : CDR, Regeneration. Cons : Low offensive capabilities, Low burst resistance

Right now, Zilean has a few major problems. First of all, his playability at various level is shaky at best. For low level players, the fact that his bombs are undodgeable, deal quite a bit of damage and deal AoE damage makes him terrifying. At higher level, his massive needs of mana, as well as low base high scaling on ult and his little "instant impact"/playmaking makes him a very secondary support option. In my mind, he can be compared to Poppy Top, it works, but other options are much better (but it still works wonder in unintended positions). Next, his gameplay ages badly (sorry for the pun). Basically, the way to play him is ENTIRELY different based on the game phase you’re in. Early on, you poke with bombs and rewind, come mid game, you simply allow for revives and counter-initiates, and late game, you are there mainly to peel with your slow since your bombs now deal negligible damages. Lastly, he needs a visual rework, so might as well.

To fix his morphing gameplay, I think that some elements have to go, and some others be more centric to the kit (if the kit was all based around movment speed, the early bombs would most probably not be as strong… they wouldn’t even exist actually).. To fix his former problem, I only need to design the kit in a way that it leaves more levers for balancing. Right now, the levers are very sparse… You can alter bomb base/scaling damage, and it will hit mid Zilean. You can alter his Rewind amount/cd to hit the very core of his kit (actually, mostly his haste/slow and ult). You cannot use his passive as a lever as its pretty binary with the current value and the actual value of %xp is very hard to measure. You can change some metrics on slow and ult, but all in all it won’t affect him that much… Meaning that there are very few actual modifiable values.

I didn’t touch his Lore, because it’s pretty nice actually. (N.B. I left this one line as-is since I found it coincidentally funny)

#Zilean, the Chronokeeper

##Innate - Rewind Every X seconds (affected by CDR), Zilean lets out a pulse reducing all nearby allies cooldowns as well as his own by a short amount. (few seconds would be roughly 10, short amount would be roughly 1).

##Q - Decrepify/Rejevunate Enemy Cast : Deals X/X/X/X/X magic damage to the target over X seconds and adds a stack of aging to the target that lasts up to X seconds. Aging buffs all further Decrepify casts' damage by 25% stacking up to 4 times. (roughly 110-120% of the Cooldown, Cooldown should be roughly 150% of the duration). Allied cast : Heals X/X/X/X/X health over X seconds to target ally or self and applies a stack of REvival. Revival buffs all further Rejevunate casts by 25% of their base Hleath Regen up to 4 times.

##W - Test of Time Zilean distort the time around the target, slowing all enemies with X/X/X/X/X units (slightly raising with ranks) by X/X/X/X/X% reducing as the enemies move inside the zone.

##E - Time Warp After X/X/X/X/X seconds, Zilean warps back to the location of the cast and half of the damage he received during that time is healed back. While warping time, Zilean deals greatly reduced damage (I'd say roughly 50% damage to outweight the heal and make it a very unimpressive 1v1 dueling ability).

##R - Chrono Shift Zilean places a protective time rune on an allied champion for X seconds. If the target takes lethal damage during that time, they will be placed in stasis - making them untargetable and invulnerable. After 2 seconds, the target is revived with X/X/X% of its max health (+ AP). (The AP scaling is flat HP, not %HP).

I´ll just link some old Eu-Brainstorming about Zil:

http://forums.euw.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=1210083

and a quote from me from that thread (just a new passive, but seemed sufficient enough)

hm i would have another idea to make him a tad bit more interessting to play and viable lategame:

give him a passive that inflicts the enemy with a bomb that will explode after 2seconds on autoattacks, stacking up 3times, doubling the ap scaling starting with 0,1/0,2/0,4 ap early game, 0,2/0,4/0,8 midgame and 0,3/0,6/1,2lategame (giving him 3.0ap on the maxburst now). On top of that give him a bit more basead and attackspeed and let the use of rewind reset his autoattack (i think that would really add to his w and would somewhat fit the point of the ability anyway).

Problem with that however would be that he still wouldn´t do better as a support i´d fear.

I'm not much of a zilean player, but why not?

Passive: Time warp Any time an ability is used, gain a burst of movement speed.

Q: Time bomb He places a bomb on a target after a short delay, dealing moderate magic damage after 4 seconds.

W:Rewind All abilities cooldowns are reduced, besides this one.

E: Withering The target begins to wither, gradually reducing their movement speed and attack speed. They also deal reduced damage while withered. They take magic damage over time.

R:Chronoshift Place a protective rune on an ally. If they die, revive them after a short time.

Whoa, these threads are awesome! :D Here's my Zilean rework post I've put up earlier: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/BaArT9wX-zilean-rework-its-really-time-themed-i-promose (I've tried to keep the numbers down to the bare minimum, but had to include some because I think it helps understand the spell a bit more)

Passive - Chronosorcery Gains a charge of Rewind every 20 seconds. Activating a skill that is on cooldown will refresh it and consumes a charge of Rewind. Holding a charge still counts towards the countdown until the next charge. Max 1 charge. (Ex. At 1:19, Zilean consumes a charge on Q, then at 1:20 Zilean immediately gains a new charge. However, if you did not use the charge at 1:19, then at 1:20 the new charge replaces the old one.) Additionally, after 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 minutes in game, Zilean's spells or stats gains a bonus. (Should be shorter in ARAM, DOM, and TTL) Chronosorcery Bonus at 50 minutes in game: Now gains charges of Rewind every 10 seconds instead. Chronosorcery Bonus at 60 minutes in game: Gains 15 AP, and will continue to gain 1.5 AP every additional minute into game.

Q - Time Bomb Fires a ball of compressed time at target enemy or ally and tags onto them for 4 second and then explodes, dealing AoE damage. Enemy units can block this skill and it tags onto them instead. Ally cast cannot be blocked. (Think Cait ult or Pix, but enemy minions and jungle monsters can block it as well. Same mechanics as Zilean's live Q.) Chronosorcery Bonus at 10 minutes in game: This spell deals more damage in a bigger AoE and the projectile's speed is increased.

***W - Time Bubble *** Creates a bubble at target location for 1.5 seconds. Enemy projectiles caught in the bubble will have their travel speed reduced by 80% and are changed into skillshots. (Ex. Cait's ult after entering the bubble will no longer follow you and will go in a straight line instead.) Enemies caught in the bubble will be marked with Chronodisplasia for 2 seconds, and Zilean's damaging attacks will consume the mark to deal bonus damage and stuns them for 1 second. Chronosorcery Bonus at 20 minutes in game: The bubble is now bigger and completely freezes the projectile for the duration of the bubble, and the Chronodisplasia damage is increased.

E - Time Accel/Decel Ally Cast - Target champion's animation speed are increased by 100% for a few seconds. This effect ends prematurely if Zilean gets damaged within the duration. (Ex. Ezreal normally takes 1 sec to jump up and fire his ult. Now it takes 0.5 secs to complete that action.) [This effects the cast time of spells, channel duration, attack speed, movement speed, and also their projectile speed.] Enemy Cast - Target champions animation speed are slowed by 50% for a few seconds. This effect ends prematurely if Zilean gets damaged within the duration. Chronosorcery Bonus at 30 minutes in game: Now grants a decaying speed buff on allies and a slow on enemies for a moderate duration. This speed modifier duration is halved if Zilean takes damage. (The full duration of the decaying speed modifier should be the same as the cooldown of E when you have 40% CDR in order to retain Zilean's perma-haste/slow)

R - Chronoshift Marks an ally champion with a Revive rune for 2 seconds. If they die during the duration of the mark, they will be revived. The Revive rune changes into a Rejuvenation rune after 2 seconds, granting movement speed and healing them over 5 seconds. Chronosorcery Bonus at 40 minutes in game: For 1.5 seconds after the Revive rune is consumed or wears off, any damage and CC dealt to the champion is delayed for 1.5 seconds. The heal and revive amount is also increased.

Here's the link to my old rework from a while ago. It includes my analysis on the pros and cons of Zilean, and what I think his core identities are.
