[Design Issue] Discussion index layout (Show More)
Is there an option to have the discussion list displayed in multiple pages? I seriously dislike dynamically growing displays, as they can be service-breaking. My forum habits often have me reading dozens to hundreds of threads on a binge basis. For some sites, that means that I can literally go through 20+ pages of thread lists, which carry 20-50 threads per page.
That causes a huge problem for me with dynamic lists like the one used here. If I want to see slightly older discussions (without specifically using the search function), I have to click Show More. Instead of going to another set of discussions, it just appends them to the current list. Sites like this (facebook, imgur) have an irritating tendency to crash my browser due to the infinitely increasing RAM usage per page.
Static index lists may seem "old-fashioned" to some people, but they're cleaner and more stable. If I want to see the next bunch of threads, I don't need the current list to stay loaded. I really don't want 1,000 discussions listed on a single page with a tiny scrollbar zooming through everything in a blur. It's also not very appealing to click the Show More and watch my browser's RAM usage jump over 5MB per click. While not technically a memory leak, it may as well be.
