Reminder: "Well Played" is not the same thing as "Good Game"

I run into this a lot. People equate "well played" with "good game" and get insulted. Take the phrases at face value, people. There's a reason "GGWP" is 4 letters. GG and WP are two separate concepts that just happen to go together in a perfect game.

Today, for instance, the enemy team had 2 members who never connected. It was ARAM, so there was no /remake option. The remaining 3 didn't just sit at spawn and wait for the end. They ran out and met us and proceeded to give us a fight. When we inevitably won, the kill score was 15 to 14 in our favor.

As the Nexus exploded, I told them, "Well played."

In post-game chat, I immediately told them, "Sorry about the 3v5."

The response? "How the fuck you gonna call that well played?"

He was angry at me for daring to say they played well. I didn't call it a good game (and I never do if the other team is missing players). It would be rude to say they didn't play well. They maintained almost even kill rates with our team, despite having a 40% smaller team.

  • If you actually tried your best and didn't just give up, I'm going to acknowledge that you played well. If you sat in spawn and/or ran it down every chance you got, I will not.

  • As long as there were no AFKs or blatant griefing, I'll declare it a good game. If my team has a numbers advantage due to disconnects/leavers, I won't call it a good game (although I may call it GG if my own team was at a disadvantage if the game still flows well).

You can play well without having a good game. Conversely, you can have a good game without playing well. Learn to take a compliment and stop assuming everything is an insult.

This is simply the problem with NA - players get offended by anything

I say gg after every game because I want to show the players that played it all the way through that I appreciate them taking time out of there day to play with me.

I always leave it at just, "sorry for your leaver(s)" because it's a fraught situation when it happens to me. I also don't dance, taunt or use emotes in those games.

this probably has to do with that in little league baseball (and probably other sports and activities), saying good game is a forced courtesy, despite if the other team might have quite literally bought their way to victory among other problems

so now these generations are dealing with the consequences

that, and because it is both used as an insult and a courtesy, it tends to be offensive if it was not a good game

I usually say gg on winning and gg wp in losing but yeah if enemies played , I would say wp

In your case , if it's 3v5 I wouldn't say wp , simply bg or sorry for the afk

youre damned if you do and damned if you dont.

best advice is to just not talk, period.

90% of this community is toxic hormonal < 18 that get mad over literally anything.

it is best to just all mute and pretend youre playing against bots.

I partially agree, but unbalanced and uneven games are never "gg" nor "wp".

And they are the majority of the games Riot gives us.

They saw it as you giving them a pity comment.

######Response was short because I don't actually care about expanding on a topic that has a straightforward answer not because I'm trying to be a rude smartass

######Just fyi.

I type GGWP at the end of every game almost no matter what, kinda out of habit these days if you get offended from something like that then w/e

You should never get upset at someone saying good game to you, unless they're following it with like 'gg noobs' or something.

I genuinely consider every game to be a good game. That's why I play this, because I just straight up enjoy the game, even when things go south. When I get to the point where I STOP enjoying my games, even the ones I don';t do well, then I go find sometyhing else to play for a while.

No one gets mad when I say "well played". Must be a western phenomenon I haven't experienced yet.

This is why you have all chat perma muted in settings. You dont ever have to deal with the enemy team tilting you. And then you skip end game screen by having the client closed while in game, makes it so you can skip end game screen when the client opens up. Then if you wanna check your stats yopu just go to match history. Dont ever have to see anything the enemy team says. Also full muting your own team at the start of the game helps to get rid of your teamates tilting you.
