Banned for MMR Boosting just now and don't know why?

It's called a "ban wave." For most of you, Riot has had your accounts flagged for a while. It's not something that they decided was happening this week. Your accounts have a history of activity on them that checks off multiple criteria that Riot looks for, and they probably decided you were on the ban list weeks or months ago. However, they don't pull the trigger on boosting bans individually, so the people who regularly boost aren't sure exactly what part of their routines flagged the accounts.

So now that Riot has this long list (or just flagged cells in a database) of accounts that are to be banned, they wait till a chosen date and ban them all. This is why there is a flood of posts on the boards complaining about being banned for boosting all at the same time. Many of the guilty parties will deny it. In some cases they may be innocent, in which case Riot can and will reverse the bans if manual review determines they were caught by false positives. In many more cases, the guilty parties incorrectly think their boosting was undetectable because they got away with it for so long, and don't realize the bans have nothing to do with recent activity. They may actually have not engaged in any boosting activity for the past month, but were caught earlier in the season. This is one of the reasons Riot doesn't ban boosters immediately and individually. They don't want the guilty parties to figure out what specific behaviors trigger the ban so that they can't find a way to reliably boost undetected.

So no, you don't have to have been boosting these past few days to have legitimately been banned for boosting.

This is a great explanation and I do appreciate it, but my friend got banned for mmr boosting. The problem is that I play with him regularly and know he couldn't have because

  1. he simply doesn't have time
  2. he's not remotely a high enough rank to be boosted
  3. he's not remotely good enough to be able to boost anyone else

So if his ban isn't overturned, I will be extremely angry and will fight them with my friend for as long as it take.

But its not a perfect system. SOME of the people banned probably didn't do anything wrong. As a point of pride and a matter of principle, Rioters should work their asses off to identify such people and reverse their ban completely. Yeah, people can submit a support ticket, but Riot should have people actively working to find such false bans, not just reacting to people who complain.

But I enjoy playing with my bronze friends in b5 xd

I never had anyone boost my account. I have been slowly grinding out rank and finally made gold this season after years of being stuck in bronze/silver after trying to be better. Then right after making it. I got this mmr boosting ban. I have no idea why I got selected with it. I've had lots of duo partners and friends I've played with over the season, but that's in the limit of duo queuing if that's the reasoning. None of the people I regularly duo with got hit with a ban. Just me. At the end of it all, it's just a game and I have next year. But way to make my entire climb feel worthless, and all the games I had to play to get there. After getting into high silver each year then placed into b5 no matter how good my placements were each season. I guess I'll just climb again. I enjoy the game. What an awful way to sour my experience of it though. I put in a support ticket and all I got was, yeah we detected someone artificially boosting your account. I have no way to prove I wasn't, and I have no idea how they decided to qualify me as someone who did but I just climbed up. Playing solo. Duo with friends. I have a consistently even winrate. I have 50% or higher on my top five played champions. I As a support main, and having finally made it. After games of consistently winning/smashing lane, and just being lucky enough that my team doesn't make a win impossible. Being accused of being boosted is insulting even. Sigh. Long rant. This season. 280W. 251L. My climb has been gradual. I get win streaks here and there, I'm pretty anyone who climbs successfully does. I have losing streaks just as much. I get stuck winning one, losing one repeatedly for long periods. It's just confusing to me to even understand what in the world this is. I've been a long time fan of the game, all the way back to season 4 now, and now I get stuck with this. What in the world riot.

For boosting, they do them at the end of the season. I'm surprised they pulled the trigger before this season was over though, usually it's a day or two after the end that they pull it.

Steam did this once after holiday sales.

Just adding that rediculous win ratio will get you flagged, it's not rocket science.

Jennifer42011/8/2018, 7:52:20 PM1 votes

may i ask how you know all that information or are you just assuming? as from my experience, riot still denys the fact that they detect bot accounts by checking for accounts that played the same champ itemset runes summoners etc for 100+ games and always having a score of x/30/x

u just need to play whole season and get higher rank than in previous season to get ban, how nice riot, i really appreciate your "gift" for trying my best at your game.

No, it just means that boosted players get to play for an extended amount of time, ruining games, before the hammer gets dropped on them.
