New paradigm to add with nested and flat view modes: chronological nesting

So, while we all may have our own differing opinions about both flat view and nested view. I believe we can all agree that they each come with their own pros and cons. That being said, I believe that neither method is great on a super large scale. This can be easily seen on almost any of the news pages, if you aren't the first 20 or so to post, your post will almost never get seen. This is mainly due to how upvotes cause posts to bubble up, and then having valuable post real-estate being consumed by that post's comments/replies.

So here is my suggestion to help alleviate the problem. (note, I do not believe that it is a cure all)

Chronological Nesting: both old->new and new->old can be used posts are ordered based upon the time they were posted any reply to an already posted post are automatically nested just like the normal nesting mode all replies are automatically collapsed, as to prevent screen space being dedicated to only one or 2 posts

I believe that this would be a great compromise between the nested view and the flat view we currently have. Also, in addition to this, I believe that at bare minimum, for any news post, all comments should automatically be collapsed so that more than one or two posts can actually be seen and voted upon.

Thoughts? Suggestions and constructive criticism are welcome.

They already have this, albeit only in one direction. On the right hand side of the page, between the OP and the start of the comments, choose 'recent' instead of 'best'!
