I thought this from the first moment, but for some time I was too lazy to talk about it. But it's really so weird that people can vote on their own posts.
And even weirder is, that you're automatically voting +1. Hell, I'm not always so satisfied with whatever I've written - and I prefer others to judge.
So guys please. Disable all self-votes. It makes me to remember this picture every time:
Sir ArmaMalum3 votesI actually prefer as it is currently, as it means if a random troll goes around downvoting every post he sees without reading it just goes down to 0 instead of -1. The subtle difference between 0 and -1 is fairly large for someone just browsing without thinking too much about it, which is what I assume a lot of people do if they're just skimming.

Sir ArmaMalum1 votesI agree that the ability to remove or even downvote your own post is kind of silly, but then again taking that ability away also serves no purpose. Can you honestly say the forum will be improved by not allowing an OP to downvote himself? What if there was a mems & games post that involved calling out a number and keeping a post at that number? or maybe OP wanted to see how far negatve a post could go? Sure that serves no productive purpose, but that doesn't mean it can't be used.

MXXIV2 votesYeah, what you say is true. And I believe the zero level should be zero, not 1. Another thing is, that this gives to OP more power over his post's score than other users I can turn my post from 1 to -1. You can't do that.
To be completely honest I have some suspition that this is a product of people trying to be positive on everything and everyone - thus giving people +1 vote already to prevent them getting -1.
By the way - to test the reactions, I have downvoted my own post after posting. Let's see what the effect will be.
MackleDoge1 votesWell, I can tell you now the effect is that it won't be seen on the "Hot" thread sorting. It will require users to be on "Recent" thread sorting setting to see it since it is below the neutral base level.
As far as why they have the neutral be 1 instead of 0, I think you're probably right about that, it just looks and feels better subconsciously to have your thread be at "1" as opposed to just sitting there at "0".
Doesn't make a difference to me personally, because I go into the situation knowing that 1 is neutral as opposed to 0, so I just adjust that mentally before considering the state of threads and comments.
