About Down Voting and Becoming a Community

tl;dr : let's make the forums into a good and health community that likes helping each other out

This is to grant ideas to discourage down voting on posts (more like complete removal) of what I like to call improper down voting where there is no feedback left behind to help the poster improve.

So the system will change to if you want to down vote a post then you HAVE to write a comment first and if you write just a random spam comment just to have access to down voting for that post then you can also risk getting banned from the forums, simple as that. Because people who do not want to cooperate, work together, and be a part of the community and society; and all they want to do is be mean to others then they can be shunned from the community, err forums. So this should flush out the cruel people that do not actually give a dam about helping others out and should theoretically leave behind a good, healthy community that would actually want to help each other out. Plus with at least one comment posted for that particular post in order to activate down votes for that user should also reveal who are the down voting trolls as well so that the forums can be cleansed of the trolls and send them back under the interwebs bridge where they belong, out of sight and out of mind; until they decide that they want to behave and actually be a part of a community.

On a tangential note, It's somewhat amusing how I felt the urge to downvote by just reading the thread title's mouseover text.

Reverse psychology is funny like that.

If someone posts "OMG NERF CHAMP TOO OP" and I disagree, I will downvote without explanation as these threads 99% of the time are someone that simple got dumpstered in a game and as a knee jerk reaction cried to the forums about it. No constructive feedback about the champ, no suggestions for change, just screaming "NERF" is a thread that needs a downvote and move on.

Requiring intellectual discussion on a gaming forum is like looking for intelligence in a Pauly Shore movie. Glad your heart is in the right place, but don't feel peoples morale or internet junk rating is pinioned to the up / down vote button.

Wait... Is OP actually saying we should be forced to feed the trolls? Because that's what I'm reading.

Down votes are simply opinions. If I agree with your point, I up vote you. If I disagree, I down vote you. If I'm neutral on it, I don't vote.

If your policy was in place, the number of up votes would dramatically out number the amount of down votes. One person would post something false/trollish/not well thought out, and you would require ten or more people berating them for that comment to get them to gather enough negative votes for people to instantly know it's not worth reading. Alternatively, people will just not post, but up vote a single counter argument. At that point it's a tug of war for most up votes. Contrast that to the current system, where a single well conducted reply can be made, allowing people to down vote the false/trollish/not well thought out and up vote the true/counter-troll/well thought it post. The contrast alone speaks volumes about the content of the posts.

Mkay.

This post is too oversensitive, we don't need to respond with an explanation to downvoting.

It may also be nice if we were required to make a comment on why we upvote/downvote and can see why other people voted the way they did.
