Rioter Responses

Sometimes, as I'm reading through Rioter responses to threads here on the boards, whether it be on pleb threads or on official stickied Red Threads™, I can't help but wonder if Riot trains their employees to talk in circles, avoid questions, and redirect confrontation into irrelevant avenues.

not sure this is the right broad for this , also while reading RiotRepertoir post today he was anything but anti confrontational

Question: "Why'd you nerf Skarner so hard?" His answer: "We're trying to experiment different avenues with nerfing Skarner." Asker: "Yeah but why'd you nerf him." His answer: "We think he's too strong. Here are some winrate stats."

Pretty anti-confrontational to me.

You didn't even address the part where he said that these were extreme nerves that are more than likely going to be altered next week

Another example

Question: Why is Yasuo's windwall allowed to block from any direction on cast? Can we make it so that it doesn't have a hitbox until it's fully formed?

Repertoir's answer: You sound like you're arguing against the instant casting of windwall and the size of it.

The asker literally had no complaints whatsoever about speed or size of windwall; he just thought it was bullshit that if timed correctly, the windwall doesn't even have to be aimed.

Once again wrong question The op was upset that the window wall could block and ability while it was facing the wrong way which was reply to by saying yes that is a problem

Your sentence here doesn't make sense. Repertoir said that this interaction was intended and that he didn't see a problem with Windwall being able to block in any direction. He said, "It's gotta spawn somewhere", which makes no sense in the context of the situation or the complaint.

Reason 1 that Yasuo has tons of hidden power: Wonky spaghetti code windwall. If Yasuo times his W correctly, he can place it in any direction and it will block ANY projectile coming towards him, regardless of direction. The reason? Windwall has a hitbox has soon as Yasuo casts the spell, and the instant he casts it this hitbox intersects with Yasuo's, making him 100% immune to projectiles. The fix? Windwall has no hitbox until it is fully formed. This means Windwall is no longer a "oh god I heard the Sona ult sound effect lemme mash W in any direction to stop it" spell, and a calculated block. Still just as effective at blocking long range skillshots, less effective at blocking instantcast or skillshots from fog. COUNTERPLAY!

{quoted}

The interaction you're describing with Windwall is actually intended as far as I know; it's not the result of a coding error.

Making him scale into his crit passive in some way or another seems like a reasonable approach to reduce his power, though. Good suggestion.

You're ignoring the portion directly following that.

Why is it intended? It's really awful to play against when Yasuo throws a W the wrong way and blocks your projectile anyway. I've had multiple Crescendo's miss Yasuo's entire team because of this sort of interaction, and a multitude of other projectiles as well. So I guess the appropriate question then is - who really thought it was okay that Yasuo can splitsecond block anything by mashing his W in any direction?

{quoted}

This sounds as much like an argument against the instant-cast and instant-effect nature of the wall as it is an argument against its size. The wall's gotta spawn somewhere, whether that be behind, in front of, or right on top of Yasuo. Maybe it should only block things from one side, though.

Instant casting and size of the wall have nothing to do with this guy's complaint. This guy is specifically addressing the fact that the wall doesn't have to be aimed.

Yet another example

Question: Why aren't there any drawbacks to being a manaless champion?

Repertoir's answer: Mana is there to limit early game harassment patterns. Also, me and some other Rioters were talkin about how it'd be cool if Mana users had a reward for being Mana users.

Literally avoided the entire question and shit out an irrelevant answer.

LaoBushido1 votes

Did you even read the post ? That was not the question. If you read the post you saw that the OP ask why should a person play a man a champion

Toastey1 votes

OP was asking "what's the point in being a blue bar slave" when manaless champions have no inherent drawbacks. OP asked why manaless champions don't have reduced scalings or other punishments for being manaless. Repertoir addressed none of these things.

LaoBushido1 votes

Because as i see it,manaless champions have no drawback whatsoever compared to,everyone else who has a blue bar to abide to.Skills from manaless champions have the same ratios and usually the same cooldowns as those from champions who get restricted by a manabar.So what's the point of playing a blue bar slave,really?

read past the title! he stated an observation about non mana users never once in the post asked about the drawbacks about energy or resoureselss champs he never even refereed back to the title he asked why should mana champs be used if nonmana users exsit he got an answer to the question

Toastey1 votes

Ok in what world does saying "Mana exists to limit the early game" answer the question "why should I use a mana champion"

Sona Ping1 votes

Of course professional people aren't confrontational and don't type like the angry adolescents that frequently post here.

However, the problem isn't that; it's your reading comprehension. You are the one who misunderstood what he was talking about.

Toastey1 votes

What exactly did I misunderstand? I've laid it out in the simplest terms possible, and the answer doesn't stack up against the question.

What exactly did I misunderstand?

The English language.

{quoted}

...

It would be really cool if there was a world where people could feel good about their champion being a Mana user, because it provided them with really cool itemization and playstyle options, or maybe it had really powerful late game implications. Unfortunately, it's just mostly used as a tool to hold harrass and sustain patterns back in the early game, and there are probably opportunities for us to utilize it better.
