Positive/Negative Player Icon

In the boards, I believe we should have "This player is really nice/helpful" and a "This player is toxic" icons. There has been too many instances where players offer sarcastic advice or poor/ranty answers, and rude comments (from me as well >_>). having a scale would let people know how nice someone is off the bat rather than just mindlessly deleting inappropriate posts.

This will help - Promote being kind to keep a good public reputation Promote helping others to receive better reputation Allow players to see who is out to hurt them and who is trying to help Give a good indicator on the trustworthiness of a player

The system might go something like this

Ranks - {{summoner:2}} Enlightened - 3 - This player shows tremendous help or kindness in the board, never ceasing to assist and never starting or continuing fights. summoner 13 Elevated -2- This player is elevated among the community, rarely starting fights and trying to keep an orderly conduct on the boards summoner 30 Accepted -1- This player sometimes starts fights, but is doing his/her best to assist the community in every way possible. Summoner -0- The default rank that summoners start with, nobody is sure yet of their intentions. Teemo Salty -[-1]- This player starts arguments often and offers nothing encouraging or helpful to posts. Singed Toxic -[-2]- This player is the scum of the League, bashing on players for their fun. item 3078 Phreak-[3]- This player repeatedly only buys 1 item during games and hurts other player's ELO. I won't release any names but it's Phreak. So, the ranks would be decided with something like

90% upvote on threads/posts = rank 3 80% upvote = rank 2 60% upvote = rank 1 50% or no upvotes = rank 0 30% = rank -1 10% = rank -2 0% = MadMorello , PassiveAggressivePhreak, SaltyStupendous,YellingYuka

Just kidding Riot, i love you sometimes :D

You're essentially proposing a Karma system, if I understand you right. I think it could work, though of course I have things I'd change about the rating, but we're talking about the general idea, here.

I also wonder if there are other ways to encourage players to be constructive on the forums.

I don't think there should ever be any sort of recognition or label on someone for behavior we perceive as not constructive. For those that aren't intending to be toxic, it would be viewed as a punishment and a source of shame. For those that are being toxic because it amuses them, it would be a reward and a source of pride. What reasons to implement this feature do you see that outweigh this concept?

I agree with the first two here, but the second two I maintain my previously stated opinions. Labeling a player as being a source of negativity is almost guaranteed to enforce negative patterns rather than resolve them, especially for players that are not intending to be toxic. It can become a massive source of frustration, because it is very possible to be trying to help but come across as caustic.

I disagree with upvotes being used as a metric for helpfulness. They are generally a reasonable estimate of constructiveness, but it's very easy to abuse such a system. Discussion may become restricted into only things that other people will perceive as upvote-worthy, and fishing for upvotes is not activity that I personally want to see on this platform.
