Any plans to make boards a little less like Reddit?

Many great threads get lost after one or two down votes immediately, despite the threads being great discussion starters or well-argued points. This means that rather than good content, we see a lot more popular opinion based threads on the front page.

Are there any plans to help alleviate this, or to compliment it in a more meaningful way? (There's a reason I avoid reddit)
