Remove ability to downvote/upvote without reading the discussion

Generally, a statement like this, with zero analysis or any real insight on the topic...

and no real substance other than a four-word sentence...

That's way more toxic than any downvote. Because it creates an illusion of discussion where the OP is clearly not facilitating one.

There are a couple of reasons it's allowed:

• For threads that link to other forms of content, there is no discussion to read initially
• The mouseover text on threads is usually enough to give a pretty good idea of the subject matter

To be perfectly honest I kind of agree with you for specifically forum-based discussion, though it breaks down when considering other forms of media being linked to from the Boards.

This is feedback that has been given a lot of times in the past.

We know this may be an issue, but right now people aren't actually abusing the feature. We're watching it, and if it becomes an issue, we'll change the feature.
