How quickly do people jump to the dislike button on the Boards?

What makes you think people do this? You can read the entirety of a short post just by mousing over the title, and don't even have to click it. If you posted something (or saw one) that had downvotes before it even had views, that is why.

I made a post about the lack of creativity in the one and only AP jungle item and within 30 seconds someone disliked the post. That's not even enough time to actually read and consider the post.

I think you just read very slow and expect other people to do the same...that was a short and to-the-point post.

But to truly consider what the post was saying you would have had to have taken more than 30 seconds. Just read it and go "nah dislike this" means you didn't actually think about it. I mean especially on a post like that you should say why you dislike the idea.

Also this post already has a dislike(at least one). I really sometimes think people scroll through and dislike every post but their own to raise their own post in terms of likes in relation to others.

I've come to the conclusion that you're just upset people aren't always jumping up to agree with you. You're going to have to accept that sometimes people think differently than you and will say so (even if it's just a passive downvote). Would it make you happy if I upvoted your post?

I think the message here is that Valkyrie hasn't necessarily noticed this abundance of dislikes you are proclaiming as hard fact. Getting dislikes because someone dislikes your post is the literal point of them, so I'm unsure what your approach is.

Yep, that'd be the "necessarily" part. I'm sure people occasionally read a thread title and immediately downvote it for whatever reason, but I would be very surprised if that were common enough to have a distinct effect on vote calculation.

To be honest, I'm far more inclined to assume that a trend of dislikes across new threads means that the community generally doesn't feel those threads are something with which they agree or identify. What do you think?

Its not really the "community" as a whole. Im sure theres data somewhere, but if I had to guess, id say 60% of all upvotes/downvotes are by the same 10% of people.

Sometimes it's the title, and the tact involved.

"X is OP, please nerf!" is not going to hold as much critical thought and attention as much as "X could use a few tweaks, let's talk about it and see if we can pinpoint the actual problem here."

Okay, maybe not that exact wording, but my point remains.

I hate upvote/downvote systems. Sure, good ideas tend to get exposure, and obvious trolls get buried.

But I feel like people abuse it. You could say the sky is blue, and people will downvote you because they think it's green.

I think downvotes should only be used to bury false information or toxic comments, not because someone has a different opinion from you.

To be honest, having a well thought out post/response doesn't mean you wont get downvoted as fast.

example of board voting ettiquete.

makes a post about x champ being op, lets say Lee Sin. (instant 5 downvotes from the first 5 Lee sin Fanboys/girls that see the title) first commenter- I see your point, heres maybe something they could do...smart talk...(5 downvotes from the same 5 people. second commenter(one of the Lee fanboy/girls)- Erhmehgerd newb, L2P bronzie neckbeard. Lee sin isn't OP, im just the greatest ever for being able to have stacked kits. hurr durr. (gets 4 upvotes, maybe 3, but only because the 4th other Lee pack member went to bed)

Making sense doesn't equate to not getting downvoted, or for getting upvoted.

remember, this is the place where people are downvoted for saying it would be neat if zac got a new skin, for example.

There are so many dislikes becasue people use the boards to complain. I would guess around 60%-70% of all topics are complaints. They get downvoted because, either they are something that shouldn't be complained about, something that has been posted many times before, or a complaint with no additional solution. I dislike a lot, just to get the annoying complains off the boards.
