Views Counter Not Working
If I write a thread then open it 100 times I give myself 100 views even though I'm only 1 person giving it only 1 view. Now I can't tell how many people have looked at my threads.

This is how the views counter has always functioned.
Yes but I don't think it's a super useful funtionality. I'm interested in how many unique people have seen my thread.
Not gonna disagree with that, I just don't know how to help you. They've never had the functionality you're looking for. I don't even know how you'd track it. IP tracking doesn't work because then anyone logging on the same IP (i.e. college campuses) would all count as 1 view, even if it's hundreds.
One way to do it would be to restrict it to logged-in people who have seen my post (this is what I'm interested in, as I want to know what kind of comment rate I'm getting).
But then, it would be less useful as a measure of total visibility, because many people browse when not logged in.
I don't have a solution yet, just things I'd like to figure out at some point.
that statistic might still make you sad. many people read threads and up and downvote without leaving a comment. You'd still see view:comment ratios on the order of 100:1
Don't worry, I have thick skin :) I also get that lots of people just lurk, and I think that's fine.
I'm more interested in, compared to other threads, am I doing a good job at fostering conversation?
Considering that you and I have exchanged several words and ideas over the past couple months, I would say that I think you do.
Seem's to be working just fine ;-)
Yup, juuuuuuuuussstt fine.
Many other sites are able to count unique views (youtube as an example) so there is no reason we can't do it here. Like look there are already over 10k views yet maybe at most 10 people have looked at this
