So, people who cry about "toxicity"...

I got a question for ya.

If it's "toxic" to pick on people and freak out in chat... is it not toxic when all of the people who cry about toxicity gang up on people WITH RIOT and pick on them as they get punished?

Like... I don't get the hypocrisy. But then I suppose it's about the same as SJWs or feminazis.

When someone is banned or suspended or given a chat restriction and posts about it on the forums, Tantrum (Tantram) goes and posts logs and acts all holier-than-thou and has his posse of kids help him pick on people. We frown upon naming and shaming, we don't want you to pick on people, we want you to be nice... but none of that applies in this case, I suppose.

Before I played League, I never even heard the term "toxic" outside of chemistry / biology. So, I gotta wonder if the whole "toxicity" issue is created by people who freak out about it. I played WoW for 14 years, and people there were assholes, but there wasn't this big group of people who had tantrums, so trolls eventually just got bored and stopped. Anything more serious would get them muted by a GM (not permabanned for something silly like chat, you know).

I don't understand why League players make such a big deal about toxicity, and gang up on people left and right. You do know that negative attention is what a troll or asshole is after, right? I also don't understand how you can expect people to follow rules you don't follow yourself, and punish them if they don't while never being punished yourself.

Tantram or any Rioter will not post logs unless one of several things happen.

  1. They are requested by the player.

  2. They are given permission by the player to post.

  3. The player falsifies a record of chat logs

These are the only times Riot will post chat logs. They will ask the player to post them to have a HONEST discussion about them.

Blizzard has perma banned players for the same type of behavior seen in League. While in general it is less common to see a ban in WOW it does happen. There was a huge ban wave because of the use of "Anal" and achievement links in all chat.

Perma banning players from games goes back a lot farther then you might think. Games like Meridian 59 and Ultima Online had cases of players banned for extreme toxic behavior also know as Griefing back in the day. I know for a fact that players in Ultima Online were banned for racist and death threats. They were also sometimes put in a "time out" island by gms where they would lose that character and character slot until a Gm felt they had learned a lesson.

This has nothing to do with SJW or any other proverbial group you might want to name. This has to do with what RIOT and the Community of League has determined as unacceptable behavior. The Instant feedback system learns from our reports about what the "playerbase" determines is toxic.

While at times it does seem that it is "ganging" up on the player. However keep in mind that they brought the issue to the boards. The boards mostly respond with accurate feedback on why the punished player received the punishment.

I also personally believe that MOST of the people are trying to give a honest answer to the person posting.

Just because you don't like the answer doesn't make it wrong.

Correct.

Same as it is not toxic to put criminals into jail, and have their crimes announced publicly.

Its called "punishment" for a reason.

When you post your chat logs here, complaining about a ban you received for being toxic, you're kinda asking for people to give their opinions, no? Are you making the claim that people who respond to those types of threads are equally as toxic in their response as the poster was in game chat?

feminazis

wew.

Tantram won't post logs unless the original poster asks him to. That's consistent throughout all of the posts here on Player Behavior & Moderation. You'll also find that many of the "naming and shaming" rules don't apply to those who make their case public, such as streamers like Tyler1 and Tarzaned. If you want to make your case public, it's your prerogative.

I don't play WoW so my understanding of their rules is pretty limited. Are there instances in WoW where you can be stuck with the same few people for 30-45 minutes on average with no recourse but to play the game or instance through? If so, I would argue that toxicity could exist in WoW as well, though perhaps not known by that name.

The word "toxic" was chosen to describe this type of behavior due to how easily it can spread and "infect" other people. When you're trapped in a room with someone who only wants to call you racial slurs and belittle you for making the tiniest of mistakes, it won't be long before you feel like retaliating. That's why it's called "toxic." To me, I don't personally care what you call it, if you act like an asshole to everyone, I don't want to play with you.

I'd think a majority of the people here that comment on threads don't actually get chat restrictions or bans because they know that behavior like that is unacceptable. The rules for the Boards and the game are different in some regards, but if you're calling people out then your post will be removed, you'll be warned, and if you continue, you can be banned from Boards.

If you have more questions, I'm happy to answer them.

Tantram posts logs when players ask him to or when people post altered logs and complain about them.

I agree with you that most 'discussions' are just tons of downvotes and people more holy than the pope feeling supirior and smug AF.

On the other hand most of the i got punishd for this? posts contain lies or go a bit like : omg rito is so dumb i just told that %%%got to go kill himself but he was also an asshole so i did nothing wrong. Really hard to defend or engage into a meaningfull discusion with that.

Ignore it and just be toxic
