This is a dumb question

I'm sure this is going to sound dumb having played this long and not being aware of the answer, but I was just reading through the following thread: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/uvhIGA0a-we-here-at-rito-have-a-zero-tolerance-policy-on-hate-speech

We have to send screen shots for offensive language?

I typically report people for verbal abuse. I've never seen a "Someone you reported has been banned." Is it because I don't send screen shots? And if we do need to, what does the the report at games end do? Is it just an aggregate thing where if you get X number of reports a game they look into it?

No, you don't. The reason that you haven't gotten a message like that is because they don't send it out to everyone. They typically only send it to the exact report that lead to the punishment.

If you're reporting someone after a game, in the postgame screen, no you don't have to send screenshots. Riot can see all the in-game, pre-game, and post-game chat.

If you want to report someone out-of-game--e.g. they were flaming you using the in-client messenger, or in a champ select you decide to dodge and report--you do so by submitting a support ticket (using this website) and in that case you SHOULD send screenshots or other evidence if you have it.

Hope this helps!

To be honest... that's not a dumb question at all, I don't know either and now I'm pretty confused as well.

Screenshots are only necessary if you forgot to report in game, or if it occurred while chatting outside of a match.

In game reports can still catch hate speech.

From what I understand: Reports flag a game for review. Once the player in question breaks a threshold for frequency of games reported in, a random selection of those flagged games are picked out and reviewed. If anything punishable is found, then they get punished.

Severity of punishment is based on how far up the tiers they are: 1st strike - 10 game chat restriction 2nd strike - 25 game chat restriction 3rd strike - 14 day full ban 4th strike - perma ban

In most cases severity of offense does not matter, but things like hate speech and racial slurs can result in skipping tiers. (Im not sure but I think it can also skip the waiting to break the threshold bit.)
