Changes to the Mute Feature
I was recently discussing some issues with the Player Behavior support staff, and I wanted to share a suggestion here on the boards:
1.) Muting players in lobbies. Sometimes the toxicity or annoying behavior starts during the pre-game, and nothing can be done about it. I totally get that Riot has said before that they believe in effective communication between teammates, and believe me when I say that I do too! However, there are players that only want to use the communication tools in this game to harass, annoy, troll, and bully others, and we need to have methods to silence them.
2.) Muting in-game pings. As I said above, I believe in teammate communication as much as Riot. When I am in lane, I need to know when my Jungler is coming or a teammate is roaming so I can keep up pressure or engage, and it helps a lot to be warned of danger if a teammate sees something I do not. Unfortunately, there are players who only wish to use this tool to spam pings at people in a very rude manner and have no desire to use it to communicate. Players need a feature to mute a player's pings in such cases.
3.) Mutes carrying over from a match to the post game lobby. If I mute someone in a match, there's a reason for it. It doesn't even have to be a good one all of the time, but some players will use the opportunity of no longer being muted to lash out at others. This is unacceptable, and mutes need to carry over from matches to the post-game lobby (and also from pre-game to the match if such a feature is ever implemented!), and if this is not possible then a mute button needs to be available in the lobby itself. I never want to be forced to experience that sort of harassment and bullying, and it is unfortunate that the current system allows for it.
Response from Princess Bubblegum: "I think you have really solid reasoning on what you'd like to see happen with muting. Sadly, as Support, I can't change these things. However, our Devs are always on the boards looking for feedback and ways to make our community better, I think you should share these ideas!"
I personally have had matches where an entire team constantly spammed pings on my champion during the match, despite my asking politely to stop. Pings are a great way to effectively communicate in League, but unfortunately they can also be used to harass and annoy teammates, and I would certainly like to see an option to mute a person's pings if they are constantly spamming them or using them to be rude, harass, and annoy.
In regards to mutes carrying over, I have also played with toxic players in matches who have used the freedom of not being muted after the match to further harass me, and it's usually worse than whatever they said in the actual match. I think if someone is muted during the match, they should remain muted in the post-game lobby.
Any thoughts on this?
