Question for a Red: Is it okay to quote Kled?

Assuming the one playing Kled is either the speaker or the recipient, is quoting these lines okay?

"I'm gonna murder you to death!" "I will murder your whole family!" "I'll kill you!" "I'll gut you!" "I'm gonna' cut you open and use your spine for a back scratcher, because it is itchy! Very itchy!" "I hate you!" "I'll kick the crap outta' you!"

Despite the fact things like this would normally warrant a ban, it should be okay if Kled's involved, right?

You made this thread a couple months back. Nothing has changed.

Kled's quotes are clearly in the context of the world that the character lives in, which is not the world we are in when we engage in a game of League of Legends. To use the fact that Kled something as justification to say it to somebody else is a ridiculous logical leap, and assuming that another player would understand your word usage to be a quote of Kled, rather than a verbal attack, is unrealistic at best.

I specified that you are playing Kled. To jump from that to games not including the character is just as big a leap in reasoning.

And when we play this game, we ARE in that world. There's no reason someone should be banned for expressing hatred of Darius, Katarina, Talon, etc. while playing Ezreal. Or all human champions while playing Xayah/Rakan. Saying direct champion quotes while playing Kled is perfectly fine.

If another player is so ignorant of the game that they take champion quotes as a personal attack while you or they are playing that champion, then that's on them.

Well, I'm not a Red, but I'll give you a bit of a common sense answer on this one. The IFS doesn't have Kled's lines programmed into it. So, if you type something in there like "I'll kill you!" or "I'll murder your whole family!" and you get reported for it, you're likely to get dinged for issuing death threats.

Things like "I hate you!" aren't as bad, since you don't necessarily have to like anyone, and the back scratcher one is pretty unique, so even if you got dinged for it, you could easily prove that you were just quoting Kled. But you might want to avoid saying any lines that are overt threats that aren't obviously unique to Kled, since if you got reported for it, you wouldn't have a way to prove that you were just roleplaying him.

The point is that you could easily prove you were just quoting Kled by linking them to the wiki, which contains all his quotes. There's no quote of his that can't easily be proven.

And I specified that you or the enemy be playing Kled specifically for that reason. Common sense dictates most players have voices turned on, and can hear Kled say all of those.

That's just it though. "I'll kill you" isn't unique to Kled. Anyone could say that. A pissed off player losing lane could say that. And they have. Many times. Which is why things like that are better off not said, even in the context of roleplaying. Because there really is no way for you to prove that you were only roleplaying. Unless you literally spend the entire match only roleplaying Kled, and never type anything else. Because if you type even one thing that is out of character during the match, you open up the possibility that you were saying it out of anger and not out of roleplay. This is why Panda and I both recommend that you only use the lines that are not threats.

And I play with voices on, but turned very low. I'm usually in a call with someone or have DJ Sona's music on, so I rarely hear the lines from other players. You cannot assume that the person you are laning against is going to hear the lines. But even if they do happen to hear Kled say them, the other 4 people on their team won't. If you type into /all chat "I'll murder your whole family!" that's going to look really bad to a lot of people, and they are all going to report you for it.

So... the answer is yes. Roleplaying the champion you're playing is perfectly fine. There's an entire board about it.

No, there is a difference to roleplaying on the boards and in game. Only do so in game if others are fine with it. If you really want to use the quotes then use the emotes built into the game.

As far as simply quoting, avoid the directly threatening ones.

"You do realise... you're on my property?" "Usually I find conversation boring and useless. You remind me I'm right."

Getting camped? "So... when exactly you planning on getting the hell outta' here?"

There are plenty of "safer" quotes you could use.
