Flame for being a "e-girl"?

Zardo·12/9/2018, 11:57:34 PM·9 votes·7,517 views

I've recently been maining support on my main account, specifically sona, leona, and lux, and i've been getting a lot of people flame me whenever I play anything else(they'll look up my match history and see sona as my most played recently and flame me regardless of performance, telling me to stick to sona, lulu, and janna even though I don't play the latter two). I've had people say things like "go back to the kitchen" because I beat them on lux. I consistently have people now say "you're such a girl" when I tell them "i'm going to mute you if you don't have anything useful to say" in chat when they're flaming. I'm not distraught or anything about these comments,i'm just curious how many of you have experienced this. Prior to switching to support as my main role I never really saw this like at all.

People are dicks. They also assume most supports are girls and want to impress/blame them. Maybe they lack confidence.

Tldr: humans are idiots.

The moral of the story is, don't tell them you're going to mute, simply mute.

Yeah, it happens. It’s also pretty stupid because something like 90% of the playerbase is male, so it’s way more likely your Lulu or Soraka is actually a dude. It’s not like men don’t play those champions lol. Look at pro players. They’re all dudes but Janna and Nami get played still.

Just ignore those people and report after the game. <Removed by Moderation>

I only que support and never had anyone assume I'm a girl. Not that it is right, but are you bringing it up? It is kind of like admitting you are in your promos, it's fuel for the trolls. Regardless, mute, repoRT and play on.

I one-tricked Sona for months on end when I started out, never once got sexist language tossed at me.

played with my friend back when Janna was good. He was a hardcore Janna main who had janna as his most played champ in ranked. When we played normals, people saw his plat border and assumed he would play well. IF he did badly (not always, but everyone has bad dickish games, especially in normals where you play champions you're not completely experienced with); people who took the time to op.gg every game, would call him an e-girl boosted janna main xd.

Though to be fair, if you play badly in league, you will get flamed (unfortunately, we have a lot of people who lack self control and lose it over a video game).

I don’t get it either. I guess people just forget it’s 2018 and that the kitchen joke is outdated. Tell them the 50’s called and it wants it’s joke back.

welcome to the world of internet where ppl will flame you for ANYTHING they can get a grip on. got a weird looking toenail and you mention this ingame? enjoy getting flamed for it (weird example)

Zhihti12/10/2018, 12:24:03 AM2 votes

I never had anyone assuming it either, alltought I do have Morgana as most played and Lux as 3rd most played.

Kei14312/10/2018, 1:22:02 AM2 votes

how do they know you are a girl in the first place?

I don't ever get people telling me those things. I'm also a support main.

Mama Soraka12/10/2018, 2:36:49 AM1 votes

I used to get it a lot but lately, not so much. Maybe they all stopped harassing me to go bother you, who knows?

Yes, I've had this issue when playing support as well. I've seen people do it to other players as well on the presumption that they are girls

Happens to me too, the name gives it away but I love Jhin :( Just mute and report afterwards, and remember the people who do that are just sad.

Baka Red12/10/2018, 8:11:37 AM1 votes

Mute. Don't talk back. Report (Harassment and/or Verbal abuse apply here I think). Next match only after you feel calm and collected again.

The above advice applies to pretty much any negativity you experience while playing the game. Only the report category varies. Always remember to follow the second part because talking back often (usually) leads to a valid report against you too and potentially gets you punished in addition/instead of the person who offended you.

Thankfully, this isn't a very common occurrence, relatively speaking.

maybe not teling them that you're a girl would've worked, you have alot of incels and creeps playing this game

Telephone Booth12/12/2018, 12:35:10 AM1 votes

I play a lot of morgana, anivia, leona, janna, and zyra. Never had anyone mention sex to me at all. Maybe its because my name is telephone booth so they KNOW im not a girl (what girl would use that username, honestly?) But Zardo doesnt seem feminine at all either. Idk, I think you have just had it happen 2 or 3 times out of random chance in the universe and now you think its some kind of trend but its just random. I could be wrong of course.

The Whamboozler12/13/2018, 10:47:18 AM1 votes

Um... why are you talking to people in chat at all? This game is a cesspool. I'd suggest starting your matches with a fat /mute all. It will make your games MANY times more enjoyable.

Seriously, it wouldn't matter who you were, what you played or how well you did... people on this game will flame and rage like spoiled children over anything and everything. If you still want to play, it's better to just cut off chat entirely from the get-go. What do you even use it for anyway? If you want to post a call like "guys, drag in 5" or something they can still hear YOU. 99% of the time chat is used for nothing but flaming, blame-gaming and trolling. Turn it off.

As a support main, I've never ran into this. I had some people think I'm a girl but it was because or how I was typing and not who or how I played. Im so sorry it happened to you

OniZetsu66612/14/2018, 5:25:31 AM1 votes

I have gotten this a few times and I just basically say "yeah well at least I have more balls to make the plays you can't" and move on. At that point they either stupid flame or they shut up.

Evíl cookie12/10/2018, 2:15:07 PM1 votes

I am Main support too and this also happens to me frequently in the past (lux main) . Now I main naut/braum and it got a lot better (I still don't get that logic of these guys but it works...)

Noor Sakata12/10/2018, 2:11:08 AM1 votes

I really don't have this problem my champions are Ahri/Lux/Janna/Soraka/Sona/Lulu

Moonscourge12/14/2018, 9:42:54 AM1 votes

Female character = female player

It's some sort of unspoken Internet rule tbh

And it IS true that most women play Supports in these games, so the assumption wouldn't even be a bad one. Insulting somebody based on that is dumb however. Just take it as the normal flame one would expect from strangers in a game, only that they try to weaponize what little they know about you. Though they would just take a guess in this case.
