Let me get this right...

My LP loss is dependant on whether or not I should have beat the enemy. if I shouldn't have won, the LP loss is smaller (~14) and if I should have I lose a lot more (~21).

If that's accurate, wouldn't it be much easier to track down trolls? So if it's toxic language, or anything chat related, that's not associated with LP. Scan the chat log, make an assessment. If it's a complaint about trolling or griefing, would you be able to find the more egregious ones easiest by the LP loss associated with the game?

Apologies for my ignorance, but I just wasted another 30 minutes playing with (I would guess) two people who showed up to intentionally ruin the game.

I believe the LP loss/gain is based on your elo relative to the elo of your enemies/teammates. If your elo is higher than everyone else's, the LP gain will be small and the loss large. If your elo is lower, the LP gain will be big and the loss small.
