🔒 The words that Riot considers "toxic" are getting out of hand...

Before you self-righteous justice warriors jump down my throat, please actually read this.

My censor is currently turned on because I just started playing the game again after 6 months, and apparently when the new client hit, preferences like this were not automatically ported over. Well, I just realized that the words Riot censors (which implies that they believe that they in some way represent toxicity, why else censor them?) include the words "cancer" and "AIDS". Can we just take a moment to realize the implications here? This means that Riot has quite literally appropriated these actual words that are names for very serious diseases and added them to the short (but actually quite long) list of words that they consider to only be used to incite internet toxicity. As a cancer survivor myself, I find this fkin deplorable on the part of Riot. This goes so far beyond the realm of political correctness and needs to be stopped IMMEDIATELY.

The reason why Riot censors certain words is not because those particular words are offensive in and of themselves, but because the context in which they are used is offensive and inflammatory. How often do you hear people having a legitimate conversation about cancer that goes like this:

Ahri: "I actually got diagnosed with lung cancer today so I'm hoping to take my mind off it by playing League." Draven: "Hope you beat your cancer soon, Ahri!"

Now how many times do you think a conversation like this happens:

Draven: "Wow you fucking suck Soraka. Learn to press R. I hope you get cancer."

It's because people are shitty human beings and use words with an intent to inflict emotional harm to others and that's why Riot has to censor particular words that would be otherwise innocuous when used in a typical, real-life conversation.

I doubt many people would be genuinely talking about diseases in league and these are often used as insults so yeah, makes sense that it'd be censored.
