A player from my last game actually had the nerve to make a joke about the Florida shooting a few days earlier. He thought it was funny to joke about it. I understand being over sensitive but this just happened and 50 Americans are killed and another 53 wounded. How can someone be so ignorant to think that is funny?
Vladimeow1 votesdear god, from seeing a previous post by a Riot comment I saw that it only takes 1 report to trigger a review. As such if someone were to report him he'd most likely receive a strike.
Kei1432 votesThe reporting system uses data from players to determine what is acceptable and what isn't. Thus you'll get a system that changes according to what the community wants.
To get a strike, there has to be enough people reporting on that single subject for the system to learn from that behavior.
Then you need more strikes to get someone punished.
So for OP's comments, chances are they won't get punished (or even a strike) for that one off, but if it happens enough times, that player will get a strike.
That being said, if a Rioter decides to manually review the chat and find it very inappropriate, they can issue a manual punishment.
RedTao1 votesWell, that would depend. The only thing that's taken into consideration for punishment (Other than the things that takes once to do to get immediately banned) is the "community standards"
The community standards are established by the people who submit reports. Basically if enough people report you for something (in this case it would be comments about the shooting) and they're all saying they didn't like those comments, it would result in a ban. In cases where things that are said/done in accordance to the summoners code and everything else Riot has out there saying what's ok and what's not, those things are not a factor. As long as enough people report someone for something, it's against community standards. Thus punishable.

You're talking about someone's personal opinions (is this funny?), not facts (1+1=2 with common math assumptions).
Saying other people are ignorant because their opinions differ from your shows a level of intolerance that seems dishearteningly similar to some of the purported motivations of the attacker in the incident you mentioned. ("I don't like gay people. I feel they should be punished.") If you truly feel sad about other people making such jokes, there's nothing wrong with that. But consider how you being intolerant will make other people sad.
Sort of wondering, do you also get mad when people mention Malzahar spreading Space AIDS? Because HIV/AIDS has killed like 25 million people. Do you get mad when people joke about "feeding like a homeless shelter"? Because something like 7 million people die every year due to malnutrition and starvation. And starving to death over a period of years sounds a lot more pitiable to me than getting shot and dying in a day. (Again, that's just my personal opinion. Whether you agree that millions of people dying is worse than 50 people dying is up to you.)
Kovah1 votesYou seem to not understand a pretty universal "grace period" when something like this happens. I never stated it as fact, but stated it as ignorance to think that is funny at this moment. It's the same thing if one of your parents had just died. It would probably take you a little while to start talking about it. But if I need to explain to you basic decency then I most certainly won't be able to help you understand on the league forums.

If you had said "How could someone be so ignorant as to think that making a joke like that would be appreciated by the majority of people aware of the incident", then I'd be inclined to agree with your sentiment. My personal experience has been that when people die and it gets news coverage, most people near me don't want to hear humor.
But it sounds to me like you're equating "ignorance" with "not sharing the way I was socialized", which goes back to my point about how you come across to me as intolerant. Some cultures wear black at funerals, tell stories about how you'll meet the person in the afterlife, and cry a lot. Other cultures wear bright colors, share food and drink, and tell funny stories to celebrate the life the person lived. I personally wouldn't say "you don't treat dead people the same way I do, so you're ignorant." I'd just say "You're different."
I feel sad that you did not respond to my final paragraph. I do understand why you'd make this post and not one about Space Aids or feeding like a homeless shelter- you recently saw emotional news coverage of what happened in Florida, so it feels closer and more real to you. Presumably that's the same reason you used the word "Americans" in the original post. Not because you're prejudiced to believe that Americans are any more important than other people, but because you're [probably] American, so them dying feels closer and more real. That's a normal part of biology, sort of related to why people are generally against cannibalism or eating family pets, but are much more open to eating cows or chickens.

Unless that gent or that lady hath spammed this repeatedly we art all entitled to our opinion of real life new events no matter how ignorant those gents maketh those folk selves behold in chat.
