If I see someone harassing another player, what should be done?

Of course, I'll report them after the game no matter what. But in-game, do you think it's better to stand up for the person being harassed, or to just not get involved to avoid complicating matters (might make the flamer even more mad, or they might start flaming you as well, for example.)

Tell the person getting flamed to ignore/mute the flamer then report said flamer afterwards. It's pointless to do anything else.

Its best to just not say anything. In my experience, there is almost always a legitimate reason as to why someone is being "harassed".

I usually try something basic, like saying in general to just play and not type as much, but it's best not to get actually involved in defending someone. You can generally stick up for them, but try not to get fully involved because it really won't be worth it since you're just going to report them afterwards.

Remind them both of the mute button.

if you take a side you are teaming up against the other person in their eyes. this escalates the situation

Tell the one being bullied to mute the other player and tell the one bullying that you'll help him untilt by providing whatever the bullied guy was supposed to be doing. So if the adc is mad at the support and you're the jungler, be his support in a sense and keep him the focal point of your game if he's really going to cost you the game by being mad. Tell the guy getting bullied to help another teammate that isn't bullying him. If the flamer still flames, he's just not ready to q up again. He most likely needs a break.

Say anything and you risk being banned. Why stick up for someone? This is the gestapo so let the Nazis handle it and just report.

I mute them and advise whoever else to do the same.

If you think you can defuse the situation then go for it. But if the person being flamed isn't talking then don't worry too much about it.

Report and move on. Do not use chat.
