PSA: Don't Trust Enemies Asking For Reports Without Evidence

I just saw a clearly new JG taking a lot of mid CS in a normal. The Veigar on his team got mad and asked for reports. Then, the JG's duo started saying how Veigar was using racist slurs and so on. The duo was clearly trying to get others to gang up on the Veigar in some ethically twisted way of defending his duo even if he had to resort to bald faced lies to do it. The Veigar denied it all and I believe him because nothing in the game would have prompted such comments + his all chat did not show anything of the sort. He was just mad about WW taking CS and that was it. Clearly, he was taking normals too seriously but I think the duo behavior was 10x worse.

I've seen this even in ranked games. People actually lie about racist comments and hate speech then go to all chat and smear someone by saying they said those things. The worst part is that I've seen people on the opposite team, who clearly saw none of it, actually say "will do" etc. in terms of reports. This is a terrible mindset. Don't just blindly trust when you have no evidence yourself and you've seen nothing. If those players had actually said those things, there would be no need for players to go into all chat and try to get enemies to report too. It's very often hateful lies intended to instigate and make the victim say something that is actually punishable. It's just a sick game duos play to try to abuse their power and bully others even using the system aimed at protecting players against them. I've seen it over a dozen times on my own team. Usually one player says something the duo doesn't like or doesn't follow their call and that's how it starts. Then, the guy being smeared calls out the liars, asks for reports, calls them pathetic etc. and he probably gets punished for it too. It's quite sad and I can only imagine the rage it causes to be the victim of vicious lies and then end up with a punishment as well as reports from people who believe blindly despite no evidence.

You'll tell me it doesn't count those reports anyway but I don't believe that. From what I've seen for many players, report frequency relative to the average player is actually a pretty big signal for the system. Thus, if a player says the exact same thing but is reported far more often (even in the same game), it will more likely lead to punishments. There are many cases that suggest this, including the stuff with off-meta picks. There isn't much transparency as far as the player behavior system's concerned and nor is there context. The old Tribunal was slower but it was infinitely more fair and ethical. You actually saw chat and were judged by peers who could see what others were saying. Many times even innocent things in one context appear toxic with no context.

Anyway, this was really the entire purpose of the post. Don't report people just because someone's asking you to if you haven't observed the behavior yourself. I've seen so many liars and I think these manipulative people who are willing to lie and smear others are the absolute worst human beings on the server. I can understand someone loosing their cool occasionally but cold and calculated manipulation to try to hurt someone because you don't like them is just disgusting to me and I think too many players fall for it either by getting falsely reported or by being so mad it's happening that the bot punishes them instead.

Multiple reports do NOT increase the likelihood of flagging a game for review. One report is all it takes. There is no benefit to asking for others to report a player.

Reports haven't lost weight since the instant feedback system was put in place.

It's actually really simple.

if (reports > 0) { review(); }

By Riot Tantram.
Stop spreading bullshit. Asking for reports is totally useless and in the worst case scenario you could even get chat restricted for harassment.

Your entire post is based on 2 false premises:

  1. The number of reports per game is relevant
  2. False reports lead to bans

We have an automated system now. A single report triggers a review by the ban system. So it's irrelevant if one guy quietly reports you or if that one guy manages to convince the 8 other players to report you. The result is the same. The ban system reviews the game. If you didn't do anything wrong, you won't get punished.

The only difference is that calling for reports is actually confirmed harassment

The good ole "report blank they are inting" when the guy is just getting camped and their jg and other lanes are not adapting and helping out.

Remember, it only takes ONE report to get someone's game reviewed. If the person asking for reports, reports that player's game, then you don't need to. It's redundant.

I never report unless I see toxicity. If I see someone calling for supports I simply tell them that calling for reports is punishable. I then report them after.

Guys i gets worse than this even

Don't believe ANYthing the enemy says, let them handle it INHOUSE. I have seen the enemy team use "report x teammate for trolling" as a diversionary tactic, when they were working together the WHOLE time.

Pandemic Punch5/15/2018, 5:16:03 AM1 votes

Yep. Plenty of times a teammate or two would tell the enemy team that a teammate was flaming all game. However, that teammate said nothing in chat for the entire game...

You will never hope in four hundred septillion cycles of the universe to even begin to imagine how many times I've been falsely reported because someone on the team has immensely butthurt over something completely arbitrary.

The last confirmed punishment notification I got was after one game, the enemy Mierdekaiser started filling up the entire post-game chat with racial slurs after his teammates were calling him toxic. There have been a few cases like this when the person in question continues their shittery or even escalates it, and completely validates the reports.

I will sometimes report a player who is requesting me to report someone. Asking for me to report someone is having a negative attitude towards that person. It doesn't matter what they did, the fact that you're taking such a negative stance might prompt me to report you instead (especially if I am a team member of that player and know that you are making a false claim about what they are doing such as int feeding when they are clearly not inting).

TwinkiePro5/15/2018, 9:54:16 PM1 votes

The fun thing about reports is that, unless they are true, they are tossed away. Riot doesn't believe reports in blind faith no matter how many a player accrues, it is always investigated. If the system (AI) cannot make sense of it, it passes it on to an actual person to review.

Divine Winds5/14/2018, 10:55:36 PM1 votes

be like me, just report everybody and maybe you'll hit a bad guy one day. Heck I'd even report myself if I could, gotta bring up the chances!

Modl Ryden l5/15/2018, 12:55:07 AM1 votes

Yeah unless I actually see toxicity ingame I won't report them and reply with, "We don't know that."

Those who do know will report anyways if they're pissed off enough. People who say "will do" if the toxicity isn't explicit they'll generally forget.
