Figuring out how to enjoy league again is actually enjoyable :D
Think about your last 20 games of league. What made you happy. What about those games left you with any kind of satisfaction? and how long did that satisfaction last?
I've been playing league of legends for about 6 or so years with about 1875 hours worth of gameplay. In all that time I can only think of a handle-full of memories that etched it's way into the "good-times" bin of my memory. No amount of riot points, influence points, weekend special game-modes, skins, tournaments, rank, season, champion, etc. Has brought any kind of enjoyment that has lasted more then the time between "Victory" icon and the next game. We all want to get that ideal game where get ganked 1v3 and dodge their skills shots and get a triple kill, the moment where you finally get that 5 man dunk with Darius, or when you pull off a clutch team fight and win the game for your team (or when you put a pink ward in a bush and teemo is completely screwed and you destroy the little devil that he is) We all have our personal "ideal game"
When I think about the games I've played that I can really remember as a genuinely joyful experience is when I'm gaming with friends. When I'm in a physical room with another person, sitting on a bed using a pillow for a mouse pad, missing all of my skills shots but having a real good time doing it. A handle-full of moments that didn't come after 40 hours of grinding for Plat 1 or Diamond. It didn't come after getting to level 30, doing my rank promo's or the countless games spent trying to get a shinier cover for my loading screen boarder or a Mastery BM icon I can flash in-game. Real lasting enjoyment came from the genuine fun of a community. From good friends (not crappy friends)
My all time favorite moments playing a video game ever, have come from super-smash bro's. Their online multiplayer sucked (or didn't exist when I played) and you had to be with other people to game. I've never laughed more, made more good memories, and both hated and loved the people around me more from any other game. I've found those moments to be much more rare with league.
All in all, after taking a break from league and thinking about what really makes me happy, I've found that only playing league with friends, physically in the same room, has brought even remote lasting enjoyment. League of legends most likely isn't going to make you happy, playing 100's of games for the average joe isn't going to bring anything more than a digital aesthetic.
Use league as a tool to have an enjoyable break from the day with friends, not as an escape from reality where you're really not going to go anywhere and the sacrifices necessary to make it "worth it" will rob you of precious time.
I know games can be an easy escape from harsh realities we face. I did it when I was younger and I found that when I was stressed I could get lost in the competition of league or other games. But take it from someone who's been there, getting out, getting some sun, and pro-actively trying to be a good person will bring you infinite more value and happiness then binging 3, 4, 5, or 6 hours of league in one setting.
As a final thought, my goal here isn't to demonize league or video games. I see a lot of people (including people close to me) use games as an escape. Use them to create memories with those around you, with family and friends and you'll find much more satisfaction with league then now.
Thank you for your time, have a great day, do some good today, and be kind to those around you ;D
