There's a reason you can't queue silver with diamond for duo

If that's the difference between your main account and your friend's, then creating a smurf account to specifically to help them climb in ranked is in fact boosting.

While playing duo queue is not boosting in and of itself, specifically creating a smurf account to bypass the matchmaking requirement of similar rank is. You can argue all you want that "that's not the intention," but if it were truly just to play the game with a friend then there's normal mode, which doesn't have a requirement.

Well the match history would easily show that they queue together, and the boosting player's scores would match that they don't belong there. Then both players could be punished.

that's a lot of effort to help a friend rank up... I imagine... I only leveled one account to 30 so I don't recall how awful it was with much detail

You probably got to 30 back when it was actually difficult to do so. Remember, about a year and a half ago they halved the experience it takes to rank up.

And then there's the fact you know how to play, so you can realistically do well every game and get a bit more IP.

I refuse to allow myself to be boosted. Sure people make fun of my 600 games in silver, but at least I didn't cheat to get there and am where I belong. Sure I want to climb to gold, where I want to end my ranked experience. But when I get there every time I mess up I'll get told I was boosted. So really no point in going anywhere in ranked.

If you can get to gold, just get there and stop. Rank only starts decaying when it actually means the player is good (plat+), so at least get yourself the season reward skin if you care about it.

Only reason I haven't bothered lately is 'cause I already had good skins for the three recent reward champs.

Because I made a similar thread to outline this fact, with different wording, and a few people who have a personal vendetta against my account like to follow my threads and downvote facts and reason.
