Tired of the "its just a game" excuse.

Yeah, it is just a game, its a COMPETITIVE GAME. It is a game that requires everyone to have interest in WINNING, But lately all I see are people who take this filthy facebook casual approach and act like winning isnt even the point anymore. The will fight tooth and nail over a kill, but will not even touch a tower. They will bitch and complain if you even touch a minion they call dibs on, but when the enemy is going after dragon, they couldnt be bothered to get up off thier ass. They take the kills, take the minions, BUT DONT WANT TO WIN. and when you try and suggest "Hay we need to take dragons/towers" or "We need to get thier inhibs",.,,,or even heaven forbid "hey we need to group" The response you get is "chill, its just a game" "relax, its just a game" "its a game" and even "If you wanted to win so badly, you should have gone to ranked" The last one I cant do because on the account I am using I am not even level 30 yet.

but its the idea that "its a game", so how dare someone actually WANT to win, how dare they try and take the enemy towers, the enemy nexus. Just sit back for 40 minutes and treat the game like a facebook version of bubble pop or something. YES its a game, a competitive game IN ITS NATURE. Go to a football/basketball/etc and shout at the players "Hey! its just a game, so you dont have to try and win" No doubt you would have alot of people VERY pissed off at you. These people play the game to win, by you coming in and telling them to "stop trying to win, just relax" you are effectively telling people to throw, to stop trying to win so you can play the game at the casual facebook pace YOU want.

And I As a support main am quit happy to abandon dead weight players. No heal, no support. These players arent interested in destroying the nexus, they wan to waste 40 minutes so they can farm 100 minions and 40 kills while completely ignoring towers. Then when someone suggests they actually go after towers and take the game seriously, they pull a "its just a game" as a free pass, a way to dismiss the suggestion. and they will usually follow up with the "want to win? go play ranked" as an added dismissal.

If you dont actually want to go after towers, you are effectively throwing, you are greifing, and you will be reported as such. Its just a game...a COMPETITIVE game. You want to play a game you DONT have to try and win, uninstall and go play tetris...or words with friends! Get the fking facebook casual attitude off of league.

The point of the match is to "Work as a team to destroy the enemy nexus" not "sit around and farm 200 minions untill the timer runs out or one team gives up and surrenders"

You clearly need a break, friend. Grab a beer, and go watch some JoJo, or whatever it is you like.

I get what you mean, but I have to admit I am often one the "it's only a game" people.

If somebody wants to win, I will give it my all. If somebody wants to keep playing after a surrender vote I will keep playing at my best and even If I am terrible at this game you can count on me to at least try.

but if that same person starts doing this in chat:

"Why don't you mid you r***rds" "Why the fuck did you die there" "Why didn't you heal me"

I will tell them to relax and say the magic words. I often feel that people are more on edge when playing things and start saying this when they feel they are being attacked while trying to relax. Even if it is meant as a normal thing, I think that some players that can't deal with the toxic environment will lash out against anybody.

I agree that people should respect their teammates and take this game seriously. I agree that some people just join queues to tilt people, I agree that people should all try to win. But; I genuinely understand why some people don't.

Fun fact, there is a somewhat dated yet popular meme that features a professional ice hockey player saying "It's only game... why you have to be so mad?" in relation to people being mad about some kind of decision (it's been too long to recall what exactly this was all about).

So that statement wasn't just about a competitive sport, for all intents and purposes that statement was about the player's actual job. There's no doubt that he's going to take the sport itself seriously.

There is absolutely merit to say "It's just a game". Not as an excuse, but simply as an appeal to people to see things in the proper perspective when they get worked up to a degree that is simply disproportionate to what has actually happened.

If someone is gonna get spazzy or inflamatory because of how things are going in a match, im going to remind them its an electronic vidya game and that they dont have to hurt themselves or others when they lose.

but they are not wrong. league is just a game. who gives a flying fuck about winning in a non-ranked mode. nothing will be affected by it. not lp, not ranking, nothing. so sit back, chillax, and quit trying to force people to win. if you do end up winning great. if you are losing oh well. no good no bad.

I had a game yesterday where my while team was raging like little kids so I told them to calm down it’s just a game get over it. I got my first ever chat restriction after that game for literally no reason.

Not HeIping You2/14/2019, 9:30:26 AM2 votes

nah, its norms, its literally for practicing and trolling. anyone that takes normals seriously is an idiot and is wasting time. You only take the game seriously in ranked and even then almost 90% of the people I play with never take ranked seriously and feed anyway. So nobody really takes this game serious anymore.

Probably has to do with how pissed off the player base is with how shitty of a game this has become.

You could literally hold the balance team at gunpoint and threaten them to do a proper job and they still would fail and end up dying lol...

Guess that'd be worth it though because then new people would be hired in place of the absolute garbage we have now.

if you try hard flaming then ya i will till you its just a freaking game

trying to win if fine try harding to win is fine getting angry at players who dont try to win on propose (as in trolling the team/not ending when they can ect ect) is fine and reportable in some cases

flaming others because they did not full try hard mode is not fine hence i will till you you are way to srs and should relax a bit

for real can those try hards flamers stop playing normals [sg-lux-2]

Quáx2/14/2019, 5:12:46 PM2 votes

yea but in actuality, it is just a game, it doesn't give them the right to feed, but it is just a game.

Apriccot2/14/2019, 9:58:57 PM2 votes

There should definitely be two new ranked sub-game modes for this exact reason. "ultra-competitive" and "casual-competitive"

Snowbrand2/14/2019, 10:46:49 AM1 votes

Idk, I don't take normal games serious. It's nice to win, but if I lose so what. I don't lose a rank, I actually didn't lose anything except that game so it doesn't really matter to me if I win or lose in normals. I played a game with a guy and we had disagreement of a play. After the game he added me and started to flame me lol, calling me out for not trying hard enough for win. So he asked me if we could que up so he could run it down mid, "because t doesn't matter if u win or lose right?". I said, if that's what he wanted to do, fine. It was just a normal. Then I unfriended him

As always, your perspective is actually fair (though not an excuse to abandon your team), but I question the context that you make such an observation.

Your most recent public account is inactive. Are you improving on whichever account you currently play? It's great to be focused on winning rather than arbitrarily racking up kills, but last time I checked, you weren't doing much of either.

almost all games are comp. Even back then when we had arcade games we would try and see who could get the highest score and enter our initials. We were not fighting anyone behind the screen, but we were playing to see who could get the highest score. So yeah, it is just a game. Games are games idk what you want us to tell you.
