Riot Defined roles: aka "u cant play X, ur not a....."

Yeah so I got out of a Normal Draft game where my adc MissFortune threw a perfectly winnable game because she realised I was playing a Neeko Support. I have been playing her in a support role, and doing fairly well with her, sowing confusion and chaos into stuns and poke damage. But I am really getting sick and tired of people constantly throwing a tantrum over "You cant play that champ, ur not a.... (insert role here)" Yeah rather than just play the game, she spent the entire game abandoning lane while browbeating me about how I am apparenty not allowed to play Neeko because "neeko is mid or jungle, not a support" while she calls me a troll for daring to take neeko into a bot lane support.

I am seeing more and more these people who feel it is thier righteous duty to enforce the meta, to enforce proper role/champion selection. So I guess people should stop trying to play new champs in new roles stop trying to build new items. stop taking Sion and Veigar as support. stop taking Twitch and Tryndamere jungle, Because thier role isnt "riot defined" and handed down to you by riot.

More and more I am seeing this disgusting sense of meta puritanism, You cant play any champs outside what X role allows, you are not allowed to play anything outside the "Recommended" or "pre-approved" meta builds. Otherwise these players come down from thier high horse and beat you over the head with how you are "supposed to play" or "supposed to build" in accordance with your champ or role.

Yeah this isnt gonna make me want to follow your royal decrees, just make me want to tell you to fuck off and go soak your head. But the fact these people will use "meta" as a bludgeon and beat you over the head with it, and if you dont fall in line, they will turn around and spam "Report X for trolling" This is what I mean when I say people are stretching the definition of trolling/greifing. It basically is watered down to "you arent playing what -I- want you to play, so you are trolling. Reported" The meta puritans can get the fuck over yourself. Beating someone over the head because they didnt play who YOU wanted them to play, didnt build what YOU wanted them to build, just so they fall in line with "proper meta/champion selection".

I agree with almost everything you're saying, but looking at your posting history indicates that you've seen this same problem regularly for a very long time.

Since it's impossible to tell whether you're trolling or not

I'm just gonna take this time to remind everyone that bot lane is a compromise. It's not like the other 3 roles. What champion you pick directly impacts how the other person gets to play. Some ADCs require more peel than others, so if you don't plan on bringing a support to the lane, you need to be upfront about that before the ADC picks.

I dunno man.

You seem to frequently attract those types that would flame you for off meta.

I know you were in low bronze, but don't you think you experience this a little too much? Maybe something you are doing to trigger them?

I go off meta support all the time and I don't see the hate you are receiving.

People who react in that way are just those who want to win so much they lose sight of the fact that they should enjoy the process as well.

That sorta thing is what creates "meta puritanism" where only acknowledged meta picks are accepted and everything else is trolling and reported under the pretext of griefing.

Like a while back, i think before rageblade was changed i got multiple reports for trying to play Ashe x)

I got even more reports recently when trying a different build on her than the usual botrk start one.

So OP all you can do is ignore them and play at your best, your pick certainly makes sense since neeko has both poke and CC along with a great teamfight ult which is all standard and good stuff for the .....supportive mages botlane.

You certainly wont be banned for it and the people too obsessed with winning to realize that metas change because people try/use different things will eventually learn, even if they spew salt a few days/weeks first.

this is why i just mute people, and then focus on playing and showing them that i can infact win as velkoz Top or "Bottom" just as much as i win with him Mid or Support (which is over 50%). but yeh point is, ignore people when they start complaining, i find that if people are typing but you dont respond they start playing the game again because there isnt anything for them to get a rise out of. the second you aknowlege them threating you to afk and such thats when they realise they got you and they will just keep complaining so you get aggitated and do bad so you lose the game and then they can report you because you said somthing you didnt wanna say. This whole holding me hostage and threating me because i am playing somthing you dont like me playing mentallity lol has is why NA never wins because we dont do things like AP Shyv top (which btw is legit right now in korea masters) NA is full of "Followers" not innovators. Annie for the LONGEST time was a mid laner and if you took her bot as support you were troll, then LCS did annie support now you were troll if you mid with her. thats NA mentallity ... just because YOU dont think it works doesnt mean that they cant play it. ESPECIALLY IN NORMALS

TL:DR mute chat every game and enjoy lol 200% more

Not sympathizing with their behavior but a lot of the “meta only” idea comes from peoples experience with others doing poorly on off meta champs and ruining the teams experience. Example of this is a player banning Yasuo because they have a lot of bad memories of teammates doing poorly on that. So it’s not really the meta at work but the people that have no trust in anything they haven’t seen. An example of this I’ve personally had was a teammate banning my AurelionSol as a carry because they haven’t seen it before so they don’t trust it blindly.

I’m going to assume you were doing something like building item 3142 on Neeko.

I understand ADCs getting frustrated when their support is something like Neeko, or Veigar or Brand, those champs are damage with some CC thrown in. Those champs are in bot lane for themselves, they're there to do damage, not to keep the adc alive. Its completely valid to be annoyed over that. ADCs have been balanced around having someone to peel for them, to protect them in fights. To use those heals and shields for them. Neeko doesn't have that, Veigar doesn't have that. Those champions "peel" the ADC by making sure the other bot lane is dead, which is unreliable.

its frustrating When you play ADC and in team fights your "support" is going after the enemy back line while the enemy Camille/Jax/Irelia/whatever is jumping on your face and you can't do anything because you have no peel. It might sound selfish, but thats how ADCs have been balanced. Adc is not a solo pick, neither is support they have to work together. Playing like that is selfish And for people to pretend it isn't, or to get offended when people say it is is silly. if you want to deal damage and not worry about keeping anyone alive, go mid, or top or even jungle, but not where someone else is relying on you to keep them alive with a pick that can't do that.

As a Veigar support i help out the adc to the best of my abilities, but if die twice before 5 min, or do not want to work as a team i take the lane over and start stacking. I also play Shyvana support but take smite and teleport. I have a 100% win rate with this after 10 games. I spend the majority of the laning phase in the opponents jungle, as long as the adc is fit to lane by themselves.
