How Often Does a Person's Main Reflect Their behavior?

Woodakoodashooda·1/10/2016, 5:46:43 PM·8 votes·1,702 views

I'm simply and honestly curious to see if it does or does not.

I am Wukong main and I am a generally positive player who wants to win, but wants to do it while having fun. And my idea of having fun is to maintain a positive attitude and to keep my allies' spirits up regardless of their performance. I try not to place blame no matter how tempting it is and I try to be as polite as possible whenever I chat whether I am chatting with allies or opponents.

I enjoy chatting with both teams. Who doesn't? A little playful banter as long as you aren't putting anyone down on either side is often hilarious and enjoyable.

Even if I am playing ranked I try not to take the game too seriously because I maintain a simple philosophy. If a game stops being fun then it stops being a game and the whole purpose of playing it becomes lost.

I am not perfect and I have had moments of weakness in which I treated people less than they deserved and it shames me. I tend to apologize to those I mistreat even if I hardly ever resort to such unacceptable behavior. And I don't make excuses for my actions and decisions. I recognize when I am in the wrong and I own up to it. I have not yet been punished and I hope it's because I've yet to cross the line that would result in a punishment and I hope to preserve a sportsmanlike attitude in League even during trying times.

Anyway, my original question remains. Do you think a person's main actually reflects their in game behavior?

I'd say it's more like people who spam the actual op/meta champs to climb in ranked seem to be easily frustrated.Pretty obvious,if you just play the same champ with the same build every game regardless of who your opponent is you are bound to have more problems than those who play their favourite champs and see climbing as a bonus.

I always watch out for people who start champ select with "x champ y lane" even before bans happened. They are usually thinking of climbing as some goal of life showing their worth and get extremely toxic when sh*t hits the fan.

Usually the players who play rare champs are the most relaxed.

As a Zed main, my job in life is to beat up the weak and disabled whenever I can and to make big play$ whenever possible to compensate for the fact that I was never loved as a child and I never had many friends. I pray to Faker, the one and only true God, to give me the power to get out of Silver and show all these scrubs that I deserve a better ELO due to my superior mechanics and playmaking $kill$. When I inevitably get to LCS, I will proceed to buy myself a new keyboard with my winnings because I broke both Ctrl and 6 keys by BMing my lane opponents when I kill them in the most flashy way possible for my super sick montages that I post my YouTube channel named "HomoforZed69". Before anyone asks, I am totally straight and do not have gay shit of zed anywhere on my PC. Anyway, back to honing my ninja skills and doing my clan of fellow Zed mains proud.

I like to sing songs when people flame me.

Kennen You suck, Kennen. "IN WEST PHILADELPHIA BORN AND RAISED ON THE PLAYGROUND IS WHERE I SPEND MOST OF MY DAYS"

Or I like to just say things my character says to people.

Braum BRAUM WTF YOU DOING. Next time, you get my back. HA! HAHA HA! HEY HA HOY!

No.

Ahri

I don't try to seduce people to kill them, I don't collect souls, I'm not a fox, I'm not a girl, I wasn't born in the forest, I don't want to become human because I already am, I can't do 1 backflip per second, I can't create small flames from air and I don't have an orb that deals damage and heals me.

I don't main anyone.

Everyone at school calls me a nobody.

Coincidence?

Fisherman Fízz1/10/2016, 6:32:22 PM2 votes

I always try to be as polite as possible to everyone in game and if someone starts flaming me or anyone else I just try to calm the situation be best way possible. Anyway, I main Fizz I should be a pretty salty player right? :P

This might apply to Riven mains tho. They tend to be pretty salty and afk Riven summoner 11

Im a teemo/nocturne main and am an asshole the majority of games

The Whamboozler1/10/2016, 7:45:35 PM2 votes

I'd say it's more that your personality and goals in the game affect whom you choose to main, rather than maining Fizz or Riven just makes you become a troll or a smug rager who thinks he's pro.

For instance, I am a clinical sociopath and I enjoy playing Shaco.

As a singed main my job is to annoy the other top laner til they ragequit

DrProfVibeCheck1/10/2016, 7:10:30 PM2 votes

I guess I main Braum.

I have the highest mastery on him and I know his mechanics.

Anyway, yea, I guess he reflects my personality. I had this friend play Vayne with me. We were against a MF/Blitz bot, so I was extremely wary of early grabs.

So what this dick would do is stand IN FRONT OF THE MINION WAVE and when blitz pulls, Q BACK BEHIND. Of course my instincts kick in and I immediately W to try to save his ass, but turns out he would've been safe.

To this day, I still scold my friends like a protective father whenever this situation comes again.

I'll use myself as an example: Illaoi = split pushing and killing the enemy team 1v2 or 1v3, then the remaining enemy team members come up to finish me off. My team is doing jungle camps or shopping while 5 enemies are top lane, instead of just shoving down mid/bot lane and taking dragon. I'll often say in chat "guys can you do something on the map while I have 4/5 of the enemy team up here with me?" or "4 top, shove bot or take dragon..."

Nautilus = when we have a team fight, typically it's 5v4, my team's advantage. And so often, I can cc-lock the enemy team and then watch my teammates cower directly behind me, not attacking or casting spells, despite me absorbing enemy cc, damage, and focus, until I eventually die from 10 seconds of 1v4ing. I'll often say in chat "come on guys, they were focusing me entirely, why aren't you following?" or "5v4, that was a won team fight for us".

What I say isn't exactly Lux-esque cheery-positivity, but it's a form of teaching my teammates. And the lessons I find that I'm most often trying to get across: "If the majority of the enemy team is on one side of the map, do something meaningful during that time" "When you have the advantage in the team fight, actually press your advantage. Don't sit there watching the enemy team."

I've had a few comments from people mad at me for playing Shaco, then I spoke and suddenly they're like, wait you're not a jerk! What's up with that? You're playing Shaco after all. Or one person who apologized for what they said, mentioning that Shaco just makes them mad. I'd like to think I'm pretty graceful, in victory or defeat most times. I just enjoy my Shaco gameplay.

I also main Taric Support, dabbled with Annie mid, basically am a noob at ADC but would like to get good at Jinx if I play it more, have played a decent amount of Nasus & Garen (before he was buffed into OP status). Lastly I've also played some Rammus JG.

Own more than enough champions to play 2 ARAM games & get a reroll (think I'm only missing 30-something champions at this point), but haven't played most champions that much really. Still quite a few details about various champions I don't understand, but can play against them reasonably well.

Just Blame Jenny1/11/2016, 8:39:48 AM1 votes

I'd say there's some correlation, but confirmation bias makes it bigger than there really is.

For me, I'm not really sure I have a "main". But the champions I have the most mastery points with are Sona Leona Elise . I consider myself a support main, but I jungle rather frequently as well.

I play the game for its social aspects as much as anything else. I'm always happy to chat with my team mates, recognize and commend them for their accomplishments, and am equally happy to do the same with the enemy team. I'm not particularly interested in being the star of the show. While I do make liking plays, it's more fun for me to set up a winning scenario for the team than to take all the glory for myself.

If I have a particular weakness, it's probably that I don't enjoy taking charge. While I'll usually try to communicate what I'm doing with my team, I'm not so good at giving them direction when they obviously need it, or offering cautionary advice when I feel they're taking a bad course of action. This can lead to me growing silently frustrated when my teammates begin to "feed" or simply neglect objectives. On some level, I'm aware that it's my own fault for not communicating better. But ultimately, I want to perform to the best of my own personal ability without taking charge. I don't want to be the leader; I want to serve someone, and when there isn't anyone to follow, I feel cheated.

Do those attributes correlate with those most people see in my mains? I don't know. You'll have to tell me.

Shonjl1/11/2016, 8:54:25 AM1 votes

My mains(or most enjoyed highly played ones) are Garen Warwick Morgana Nasus Ziggs

Uhh, not sure what this means lol. Mix of thrill of battle or hunting or rather thrill for challenge, calming balance and sorrow, and a random maniac? Hmmm, guess this could be accurate after all...

xReadyPlayerOnex1/11/2016, 3:09:45 PM1 votes

I think it says a lot. Choosing one champion out of 128 possible is wildly inefficient and an emotional and irrational decision that blinds people to many aspects of the game. I tend to be rather pragmatic and systematic.

I'm trying to hit 500+ Mastery. I own all but 5 champions. I play ALL of them. I know their abilities and strengths and weaknesses. I know their combo's and usually how to avoid them from maximizing those combos. I can carry on almost any of them if my team doesn't prevent that and It's fun to be able to use any of those champions to help my team composition.

I tend to see people who play only one champion as narrow minded and easy to predict.

What if you have 23 main and they fill different roles?

Amber Lynn1/10/2016, 6:07:15 PM1 votes

I met a lot of really rude jerky wu kong players, but the ones I remember were from when he was really popular in the meta. You may want to factor in current strong picks into differences in the players personalities. That's just one of many variables. This would be a hard task. >.<

Maybe the roles and play styles reflect it more than the champ?

Disconnectivity1/10/2016, 6:36:06 PM1 votes

Well I mean some people may believe that and take it to seriously and forget it's game but my only advice is to continue doing what you're doing and don't let others bring you down.

PIMPSMOOTH1/10/2016, 7:20:30 PM1 votes

I'd say not at all.

I've ran into just as many toxic Soraka as I have Riven .

Void Nargacuga1/10/2016, 11:23:44 PM1 votes

I'm a newer player and I've noticed I tend to Veigar and Malzahar quite a bit... And on occasion Zed & Yasuo (though I'm still learning them slowly)... What does that say about me?

trash sion1/11/2016, 1:17:43 AM1 votes

Udyr Main- rarely chat. Always start the game by saying "no leash" so I can invade, and only chat to say "GJ" or the occasional "ok" in all chat when the enemy does something blatantly stupid or to say "rekt."

I make aggressive as fuck plays that get me killed more often than I should, but when they pay off I look like a god.

Taric and unsurprisingly I tend to be the nice one, at least in chat anyway.

If you make reference to my level 5 Taric, I will ham it up big time. Especially if there's an Ezreal in either team. Taric is just so funny, same with Zillean, I love being goofy whenever I play as either one of them.
