An Idea for Future Featured Game Modes

Who likes Leagues' lore? It's pretty cool sometimes when we get VU's that update a champion's story or the rare themed patch that begins an epic tale. But I think even us lore nuts can agree that League's story doesn't really move forward all that much. Which is a shame, because we connect so much with these great characters through playing them.

I call your attention to an event some years ago--Ionia versus Noxus. This was a rematch that called back to an important war in the lore. Ionia wanted their land back, so they challenged Noxus in the League. This resulted in a real game which decided what happened to the land: Did Ionia reclaim it's homeland? Or did Noxus continue to occupy Ionia? More info here if you're interested.

This got me thinking; why can't they do this for more events? Not only does it make sense lore-wise--the League is used in lieu of war to settle disputes--but it also connects us to the plot the same way the gameplay connects us to the characters. We watch Ionia win, it's not just a story retold.

Now, since the advent of eSports, it doesn't seem like the pros should play this game for us: we already get to see them play a lot. But perhaps instead, each event should be a Featured Game Mode

Hear me out: the temporary mode would be based on a lore event and would limit selection to the factions involved (say Noxus would have champions like Katarina Cassiopeia Draven , but not Ionians like LeeSin Irelia). It would be a normal match on SR and you could queue for either opposing side. At the end of the game mode's run, Riot could use the stats to decide what the direction the story would continue.

Not only is this a cool game mode, but also a way for players to feel like they have a role in the story, which is something video games uniquely provide.

What do you guys think? Comments or concerns?
