Petition to Change "Dunkmaster Ivern" name

I know the skin is currently pretty contentious here on Boards. Even I can admit that the theme was an odd choice for Ivern, but upon viewing it I personally think it fits him just fine. I'm really digging the retro basketball look combined with that leaf afro; its very Ivern. That said, he doesn't really have a "dunk" in his kit, so "Dunkmaster" is sort of a misnomer.

While I'm sure he'd be fine at dunking given his height, its really Daisy with her 3 hit passive that's doing any sort of dunking. Ivern is really more of a Point Guard; even in his splash art, he's feeding the ball to Daisy. Excuse my limited understanding of basketball, but I think the point guard position is especially fitting for Ivern: he's the guy supporting the scorer, protecting and making sure the scoring guy gets the ball he needs. So I think "Point Guard Ivern"--or something cooler sounding alluding to a Point Guard's job--is more fitting.

Its the same logic behind why its "Goalkeeper Maokai" vs. "Striker Ezreal": they are playing different roles on the team. They could potentially kick off an entire Basketball skin line much like with a simple name change, much like the soccer(football) skins, creating whole teams of basketball players. This isn't to say no more Dunkmasters; with a huge bevy of suggestions, there is a ton of potential for other Dunkmasters to emerge (coughcough Jarvan). [sg-ahri-2]

I feel like that's one of the big things people don't like about it. Ivern doesn't dunk. What he does do, though, is help his teammates dunk.

Just like how Goalkeeper Moakai is tanky, he's taking hits for the team to make sure the enemy doesn't score. Ezreal is a fast mother fucker, and someone Moakai should keep an eye on. And then there's Rammus, the ball they're playing with. Everything is represented here, as it should be, and the basketball skins should be no different.

Riot, there's a reason you changed the name of "Battlecast" Illaoi to "Resistance" Illaoi. The title "Battlecast" comes with certain expectations. The Illaoi skin didn't met those expectations & contrast too much with other skins in the line. On the other hand, "Resistance" is a pretty broad term & can work with quite a few things & players don't have a lot of expectations for a "Resistance" skin.

Instead of drastically overhauling the skin to fit those expectations, it's much easier to change the title to something that works with the skin.

What make a "Dunkmaster" skin? Dunking. Dunkmaster is not just about being a basketball player. If that was the case, you could have easily call it "Basketball" Darius or some variation like "Riftball" or something. But instead, you specifically called it "Dunkmaster". Why? Because you CHOOSE highlight the specific maneuver of dunking, not just playing basketball. You, Riot, wanted to emphasis the DUNKING. Players expect to be dunking fools in game when they play a Dunkmaster skin. Ivern is not a dunker. Yes, Ivern can get a basketball skin even when he's a dunkless champ. There is more to Basketball than dunking after all. Just change the name to something more appropriate. Riot, you've proven you're comfortable with skins in the same universe having different names. Just change the god damn name & you'll silence 50% of the criticisms about this skin.

I think Ivern would probably be more of a forward, and daisy is a center. A point guard is the main scorer (I know you said you had a limited b-ball knowlede, not trying to criticize)

There are different types of forwards, but Ivern would probably be a power forward, who passes the ball and is more defensive than other roles. This fits due to his shield and cc abilities.

Centers are basically the basketball equivalent of tanks; they block people off, guard offensive players, and all that. Daisy perfectly fits this.

I agree. Though the only flaw in your argument is that "dunkmaster" is not a position in basketball either XD.

Again though, i agree: point guard would be much more fitting, and daisy should be "power forward".

I also agree with whoever stated that:

A) Ivern should pass the ball for his shield animation. And

B) Daisy should get a dunk animation for her 3rd attack.

Part of me wants to agree with you that it would solve a lot of the hate, but another part wants to be more optimistic and believe that the League community isn’t that petty.

It should be Oldschool Ivern or Semi-Pro Ivern

Fun fact: When the old boards were talking about creating a basketball darius skin, the initial sketch artist showed a pic of darius drawn exactly like ivern, thinking he could look semi-pro, with the high socks and whatnot. Looks like the ended up using this look for Ivern.

Petition to throw the skin straight up to the trash can and work on a skin that Ivern mains actually want, and take inspiration from concepts that already exist.

This was probably the most sloppy skin concept I have ever seen and theres no excuse for what they did and for how long it took.
