Why league will never be what it was.
I hear many complaints to Riot about league of legends not being what it was, or how so many champions are just simply not viable, and why #LCSBIGPLAYS is all Riot focuses on.
I'm with you.
But we also need to step back and take a look at what is really going on. While I agree the balance team is trash tier, and most if not all of them should be immediately fired and never allowed to work in a game company ever again for various glaring reasons, there is a problem which Riot has dug themselves into that they can never get out of.
This problem is #1 To many champions. You simply cannot balance the amount of champions League has to be equally balanced and competitive with each other. This is why you see Riot focusing on the #LCSBIGPLAYS and revolving their main core buffs/nerfs around pro plays and picks.
The other reason is the champions they've released in the past year. They are entirely over loaded, un-balanced, and completely "toxic" if I may use this communities own choice of words to the health of league as a whole. How do you deal with these champions? How do you balance them without going completely back to the drawing board? As a business they can't do it that often, or as much, since many people have paid money out for these champions, and they are very popular.
On top of that already terrible situation of the new overloaded kits completely pushing out the already hurting earlier season champions, you also run across the problem, that every new champion has to be just as viable, different, and bringing something "new" to the table. This creates a downward spiral of destruction to the game, as Riot struggles to release new champions that are fresh, new, and viable, against already released overloaded, and widely Favorited champions, which in the end, only adds more toxic like champions to the health of league.
Riot has dug themselves into a very deep hole, with extremely slippery walls.. I honestly don't think they can get themselves out of it either.
They only have 2 viable options at this point, neither of which Riot wants to do due to upsetting the LCS and championships which bring them hundreds of millions of dollars.
-
Nerfing every problematic champion into a balanced state, or semi-balanced state.
-
Buffing every single non viable/ non competetive champion
Both of which would require a very dedicated, and very intelligent team of people putting down a list of ground rules of what is the minimum and maximum any champ should have in terms of CC, max damage, tankyness, and what things certain champs should not ever get for any reason what so ever either on all champions or specific roles.
Then do 1 or 2 and nerfing and or buffing the champions that either out play those ground rules, or under plays them to make them fit into that path.
