Might want to get a more accurate quote there. They are fine with silences, just not ranged silences that specifically reduce counterplay.

Also Garen got a nerf to his silence already due to his combo getting extra damage from the Juggernaut changes.

Specifically the targeted ranged silences followed up by burst combos. There's nothing individually oppressive about each part of that, it's only the combination that's over the top.

I'm pretty sure he specified ranged silences.

Talon's took him into melee-range.

Though that may be arguing semantics.

Where he ends up after casting it doesn't really matter when classifying it as a ranged or melee ability.

Oh, sorry. I meant ranged silences as compared to Garen's very definitely melee one. Talon was able to engage from a decent range with incredible reliability, whereas Garen could/can be avoided.

Garen and Cho'gath (and Malzahar and Blitzcrank and Fiddlesticks) are not mobile assassins.

AD Garen is incredibly squishy and is insanely easy to peel. Even so he still can't burst you down before the silence ends. That was the problem with the silences they removed, you could be burst down during the duration of the silence.

Riot doesn't like mobility + silence + burst.

Which is why Kassadin, Talon, and Leblanc lost their silences.

I think what Riot was getting at with removing a bunch of silences from people's kits is that silence can never be paired with burst for the game to be in a healthy state. That's why Kassadin and Talon got their silences removed but people like Cho'gath, Garen and Soraka get to keep theirs.
