Seriously nothing regarding when it is going to be released almost a week after it was announced, as someone who preloaded RP into their account i'm tempted to not even buy it anymore.
Seriously if you are gonna do a cool skin release it with the patch or a day or two after, making us wait this long isn't cool
The skin being delayed is unintentional. I think it's mostly due to timing and Riot finishing up some things with the skin.
About the timing: most things that are said to "release later in the patch" usually release about 2-3 days afterwards. So if the patch comes out on Tuesday, then those things are likely to come out on Thursday/Friday. And guess what happened this Thur/Fri? Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Riot probably knows this is a really busy time for people, with everyone traveling/spending time with family/etc, so it's not a good time to release it, everyone's too distracted.
Also, another contributing factor: Think back to all the other Ultimate skins. Every one of them had a big promotional video or comic that came with its release to hype it up and showcase it in all its true glory. That's exactly what Riot is doing with Elementalist Lux. High quality CG videos and artworks take time, and what they were working on probably wasn't finished yet. And with Thanksgiving, obviously Rioters have families too so they took time off for family.
I'm willing to bet 100% that Riot will finish up the promo and release the skin on Monday. It's after all the holiday craziness has died down, everyone's back to work and no ones too busy or distracted so the skin will get the attention it deserves upon its release.
They do this with every new skin release, so I don't know why you're suprised. The skin wasn't supposed to be leaked so early, so it's not riots fault.
Exactly, that was what happened with jhin. They teased him so well. But then they dragged it out way too long.
Even though the wait is surely annoying, saying the hype is going away because the skin is delayed by a single week, its a bit exaggerated.
I am waiting for her too and I am excited to try her out, but good things take time.
Yea, I feel you. Blizzard did the same thing with Sombra, I honestly thought she would bring me back to playing Overwatch and then they made us wait like a month for her. Obviously a skin is not going to make me do that with League, but I'm less tempted to buy it now. I main mid, but only have Lux at mastery 4, she isn't super fun to play for me so I was planning to use this skin to get some more practice on her but alas, I'll prob wait a bit longer.
They do this literally every time they release skins.
I don't really remember the Jhin release, but I remember the Championship Zed release, and in case you forgot, it got postponed for a whole freaking patch. Yeah I bought it in the end, but I don't ever feel like using it.
My best theory is that it's because of the Holday.
The Riot offices were either closed or low staffed, as many travel to be with family.
Because of this, it is unwise to release a big ticket item at that time. If a major issue occured, Riot's full staff attention wouldn't be able to be put into fixing it, causing it to just end up disabled, and making people even saltier.
I completely agree, I actually decided to not even play league for a long while today because of it, I went to the PBE instead. And the longer we wait, the less likely I am to buy it, but I really really feel like they'll release it with the Game Mode.
Also if it's actual "hype" it won't go away. I was jacked for Jhin from the teaser till the release. Actually haven't been as excited for a champ release since. So if they really want the new lux skin when it was announced, they will still want it.
