Riot is Being Much Better of a Company Than People Give Them Credit For
Riot is getting a lot of shit from angry players and a lot of people paint a really unfair picture of it - that as a company they don't care about the player base, that they are incompetent and stupid, that they don't know their own game as much as their players do, that they are greedy . . . you can see where I'm getting at.
After having dealt with a lot of other game companies I have to tell you that this just is not true at all.
Nintendo, EA, Games Workshop and many more of the other big game companies don't communicate with their players, everything happens behind closed doors. They frequently showed how they don't care about upsetting their player base as long as they can grab more cash.
Riot on the other hand is much less calculative about making money and are much more passionate about their game. Things like the music, the Lore, the art and much more are really not making that much money but instead are just awesome gifts for all of us to enjoy.
When it comes to the game itself Riot is actually interacting with its community instead of just seeing us as faceless cash cows. The balancing and other gameplay-related teams are not full of greedy middle-aged old guys in suits whose only goal it is to make another way to force their product on us and the cost that comes with it, they are actually players just like us who care about the balance of the game.
Things like the patch notes roundtable, insights on champion balancing and design, reworks etc. , stuff like the whole "Ask Riot" thing, all the community events and the fact that these forums exist, where some of the game developers actually post from time to time just shows how awesome and caring of a company they are.
I'm not saying that they are perfect. The game is constantly in a flow and you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs. There is no way to please anyone - I personally for example have a lot of ideas regarding balance and lore that I'd like to become true, I'm also sad about how tryhardy, serious and mentally exhausting the game is getting compared to earlier seasons and there's a lot of other stuff on my mind on top of that. But the fact of the matter is that I'm just one of millions and for having so much dedicated players of their game, they are doing a great job at pleasing most of them.
