LP gain/loss

I've been playing ranked for a week now and I'm wondering something. Whenever I win I seem to gain 20-30 LP but when I lose it's only about half of that. Is the gain from one team the same as the loss from the other team? And two people on my team claimed to have gotten different LP rewards after the same game. Does the LP vary from person to person or is it the same?

Your gains are based on the difference between your MMR and the expected MMR range of people in each league rank. If your MMR is higher than that you gain more LP than you lose. If your MMR is lower than that then you lose more than you gain.
