I just can't

People have told me to be positive and encourage team mates to do a little better and i can win games in bronze. They have told me to play champions that I am really good at. Last game pissed me off so much I am almost in tears. I decided to play vel koz. I am usually somewhat toxic but the entire game I was positive and said GJ to people. Our lineup was mundo support, varus adc, quinn top and skarner jungle. I dominated lane ending up about 11/1 by mid game. Quinn fed nocturne @ top which I hadnt noticed until the team fights came. Skarner wen't full AP/Attack speed. When it was team fight time I repeatedly told them to jsut peel for me and I can kill them off. First nocturne ult on me, everyone runs away chasing the almost dead morg while being killed by the rest of the enemies. After telling them for the last time to peel for me, the skarner began getting mad at me for being "toxic". Mundo just said he tried to peel for me. By the end of the game, what a surprise, I lost! Honestly it just seems like the odds are always against me. I have no idea what to do. I've tried duoing and the same crap happens, my duo partner even calls me bad luck. Here's the score partway in. http://imgur.com/3ZtqGBc

Just stop talking. Stop complaining, stop doing anything except for playing. Okay, you're losing a game -- that's no reason to start whining at your teammates. Control what you can, which is your gameplay and your attitude.

Considering their Nocturne and Tryndamere were fed, you didn't get a Zhonya's Hourglass. You also went Athenes when you know the only solid magic damage dealer is morg, who was fed -- that's also incorrect. 34 minute mark with 140 farm is unacceptable. You went Liandries AND Void staff knowing full well you have good AP scalings, also incorrect (Liandries for low enemy MR, Void for High, AND you have true damage, why?).

You have a LOT to fix. When you play a perfect game and lose, then you'll have the right to complain.

As a lowly bronzie, can you explain to me when to build Void Staff/Liandry's? Like, proper situations? I always seem to mess up my ap itemization and you know what you're talking about ;_;

Don't call yourself lowly. If you're trying to improve it's nothing to feel inferior about.

Here's a graph : http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/9/92/Delucion_MpenGraph.gif/revision/latest?cb=20140702223943

Basically, with low magic resists you want to get flat magic penetration. If it's later in the game (where champs already have 50+ magic penetration) or if they start building MR, then you go void. The big issue with penetration vs damage this game is that he didn't abuse his true damage and his high AP scalings, so by laying off his ACTUAL damage, he ended up doing a sub-par job in teamfights. Liandries feels more like a snowball item tbh, but in that scenario, getting a Ludens, Rabadons or even Zhonya's instead of liandries would have been better.

Oooh! I get it now! Another question, I usually built Abyssal Scepter on champs like Diana, but would it be more efficient to do what you said, Void Staff vs Mr? :o

Also, thanks! I really do try and learn how to be better, but time limitations make it a lot harder than I'd like it to be. xD

I'm a fan of Diana jungle. When I do consider whether I buy Abyssal Scepter or not, I consider whether A) I'll be in range to use it (since it's an aura) and B) If the enemy has MR built.

The APc is designed to basically destroy the enemy carries with burst. This item is designed to** destroy enemy AP carries**, MR to counter them and Mres reduction to do more damage. So if the enemy is running over your ADc or something and you're able to fight her safely melee range (if it's like a casseopia, try not to dash in, she'll R you and just wipe you off the face of the earth), then you go Abyssal to kill her before she makes her move.

My build may not have been correct but Im pretty sure i did better than anyone on that team. I hadn tplayed vel in a while so was following a guide

Shikigami1 votes

Your build being horrible wasn't the only point I made. Using your teammates as an excuse for losing is a pretty sloppy thing to do, don't you agree?

Predatore1 votes

Well, with an AP skarner and quinn top, not really.

Shikigami2 votes

AP Skarner who had more cs than you as the jungler? That makes you look a little dense. Quinn top is extremely viable, here's a master tier quinn main http://www.lolskill.net/summoner/BR/DEMITIDO%20DO%20ITAU I'm unsure what you're trying to prove to anyone by not admitting fault.

he actually rarely jungled, he came to our lanes for way longer than he should have been. Then when someone tried taking the red buff he called them a noob...

Don't be entitled to red buffs. Red buffs are the Jungler's creeps, they decide if they give it to you (after they get full build then its more of 'take whatever' kinda thing). If you're just walking up and taking his red, that's kinda dickish.

I wasnt the one asking... Our adc grabbed red so he is like "my fucking jungle noob"

I agree with most of that except one thing. Vel Koz's ap ratios are not really that great.

His Q is at 60% which isn't much, but it is a poke ability so that is expected.

W is 25% on the initial damage and 37.5% on the explosion afterwards. If you hit both ticks and both charges of the skill then it has a really high ratio, but the likelihood of that is pretty low.

E is also only a 50% ratio.

Ult is 60% per tick so theoretically you can go up to a 600% ap ratio if you land the entire duration of the ult, but just like with the W that is pretty unlikely.

Vel Koz's big strength is that he has good base damage and his passive makes him hit harder without as much ap. Hiw W and his Ult have high ratios if you land all the parts, but it is over a period of time rather than as burst. a big part of those abilities is that they apply the true damage passive more.

Because of this spell penetration items like liandrys and void staff are good on vel koz, but the build still could use some changes.

For example against that kind of team zhonyas is a pretty much must buy if you want to stay alive, and although liandrys and void staff are both good on vel koz they are not ideal for this situation. The enemy tema hadn't built any mr except for GA and a Maw meaning that void staff was not very efficient at the time. The liandrys was ok, but considering it is a 5 health damage item, it is best built later in the game or against hp stacking tanks. I cans ee why the chalice was purchased, but morellos might have beet better if you wanted mana regen. One item I would recommend is ludens echo. vel koz fires off abilities frequently and the extra ratio helps his damage, especially in a game like this where people don't have much mr.

Shikigami1 votes

I disagree. Considering Velkoz has a low-speed full rotation time and true damage, building low ap - high mpen is a bad idea, especially considering the enemy team is probably A) outleveling him (so they have 50+ mr which means Void staff, look at my graph earlier) and B) Their frontliners have MR. So Liandries is a bad buy. Consider that since the enemy team has low mobility carries (minus tryndamere, who can be exploded by high burst), landing a full (or partially full) ultimate is very viable, thus building AP would do well. Magic penetration doesn't help his kit any more than raw AP does. Instead of Athenes, go Morellonomicon. Instead of Liandries, go Zhonyas or something, otherwise Ludens. Instead of getting 140 cs, try 300 at 30 mins.
