But no really, every other event icon has been 1500 IP for 1 week till now, Hexakill was, Pentakill band was, the Football skin icon was...

The icons change the poro during the snowdown event.
Get the battlecast one? Your poro that follow you are robots.
Get the gentleman one? Your poro that follow you wear a hat and a monocle.
These took time to create, program, and bugfix. That also took money to make. So they want a return on it. That why they cost RP. It not that they are greedy, It because they are a business.
You really don't need an icon though. The point of RP is to sell things that don't actually have an effect on the game, but you want anyway (such as skins. They don't change the champs power even slightly, but they look cool). Icons fit that perfectly.
